My title says it all, we stayed at the Charterhouse for a 4 night break and found it as good as the reviews if not better. From arrival to leaving nothing was too much trouble, from arranging tables for diner, calling taxis or advice on local area.

The room was well appointed, clean and very comfortable, breakfast was superb, with a hot buffet, to a standard that puts major chains to shame.

Marion as a host does all she can to ensure a good break, and Les's homemade bread and marmalade is not too be missed.

My wife and I stayed at the charter house for the second time last week and we were just as impressed this time around. Torquay is a great place to stay and the charter house is a top choice as a base to explore. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the breakfast is awesome. Marion and Les can not do enough to ensure that you enjoy Torquay. Thoroughly recommend.

We had a 4 day stay at the Charter House and had read some really great reviews for this B and B. I was so pleased that all of the reviews where right, Marion and Les are just like you favourite auntie and uncle and you where made to feel so welcome. To have a pool for the kids was great as my 12 year old daughter was in it every day. My son who is 17 did not feel out of place or bored as he was kept busy playing with Toffee the terrier on the lawn most days.

What can I say about the breakfast but all I can think of is wow I have never eaten so much in the morning. All of the hot hot food is locally sourced and as for Les's home made breads that are different every morning, heaven.

As we where a family of 4 we had the rooms in the attic at the top of the house which where all spaciousness and both had great views over the bay.

I wish we could have stated for longer but we will return next year and will book for a whole week next time.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are clean and spacious.

We enjoyed a lovely 5 night break at The Charterhouse. Marion and Les were great hosts and made us feel thoroughly welcome. Breakfast was fantastic and our family room was very comfortable and spacious. Our children enjoyed playing in the gardens with Toffee and Phoebe! They also loved the pool!
Brilliant location for exploring Torquay and beyond!

We sort of knew what to expect after all the excellent reviews but we were made so welcome as soon as we arrived. Room 3 on the ground floor is large and airy with a kingsize bed. Little touches like a welcome bar of chocolate on the bed is an indication of the attention to detail. Marion managed to get us a table in an already fully booked restaurant (Number 7 fish bistro). Also a recommendation. Breakfast was delicious made special by homemade bread and marmalade made by Les. The best compliment I can give is that it won't be the last time we will stay here.

Marion and Les are fantastic and make you feel extremely welcome and comfortable. I am a vegetarian and I was provided with vegi sausages for breakfast which is a rarity. They can't do enough to be be helpful and the location is perfect 10 mins walk from Torquay harbour and Cockington. The room we stayed in (15) was great clean with a good view. My family lives in Devon and I will now visit more because I will stay here everytime! Defo recommend. Melissa and Rob from MK!

Nothing new to add to what others have noted (excellent breakfast, roomy family suite upstairs, beautiful grounds, welcoming hosts), but the stay was so nice I'll repeat it anyway. But it's worth doing the review if only to say how the service really goes above and beyond what one could expect. We had a flat about a mile from the Charterhouse just as we arrived mid-afternoon, and Les was nice enough to drop what he was doing and give me two rides back and forth to the car, which was unbelievably helpful and instantly put us back in the vacation mood that the Charterhouse and its proprietors only further enabled.

The only disappointing thing was not having planned to stay longer.

Room Tip: Upstairs family suite is double room ideal for family of four.
