We went to this hotel after reading good reviews and couldn't believe how right they were. Marion, the owner is so lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. We came with our four month old daughter as a first family holiday. We didn't know much about Torquay but couldn't wait to explore it after a dose of Marion's enthusiasum for the town. She is so giving and has the most amazing sunny nature. She made us feel welcome but was not imposing. The rooms were beautifully done out and very clean. As if this wasn't enough, it was topped off with a fantastic breakfast to start the day. Thank you, Anna, Kyle and Mia.

We arrived after a long journey and were welcomed with tea and biscuits and then Marion explained the area to us , suggested places to visit and where to eat in the evening.

Marion and Les the owners of this B & B really look after their guests and their dedication to running a successful establishment is evident everywhere. Some rooms are better than others and they have embarked on a renovation programme, however it is a comfortable place to stay.

Breakfasts are superb with good quality ingredients.

We booked at the Charterhouse for three nights on the basis of its excellent Tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We had an excellent and restful stay and hope to return in the future. Marion and Les are a couple who are genuinely eager to help and please their guests and we, and our dog, were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived. A welcome pot of tea and biscuits were more than welcome after a long car journey.
Our garden room was comfortable though we had been told that it was not very spacious. But we were glad to have it because it made access to the garden very easy and, with our dog with us, we appreciated this. The breakfasts were great and local bacon, eggs and sausages were delicious. Marion and Les were always ready to give us local information and guidance and we found their help in this way invaluable. Their hotel is within walking distance of Cockington and this was a bonus. For those wanting a small Torquay hotel with a warm welcome Charterhouse must be hard to beat.

If you want to stay at a hotel where you are genuinely made to feel at home (in a good way!), then this is it. The welcome was very warm, the service attentive, the location and rooms excellent and the breakfast fantastic. To say Marion and Les are focused on all their guests having a great stay is an understatement. Their knowledge of local attractions, pubs and restaurants was excellent and they really went out of their way to help us enjoy our break, which we thoroughly did!
