Found this from laterooms and so glad we did. The welcome was... very welcoming! The room was elegant as was the entire hotel. A beautiful Grand Piano representative of the Grandness of this wonderful hotel. Ian and Craig who own it were faultless as were the facilities which included a hot tub and heated swimming (which unfortunately we did not have time to use). Would definitely go there again... and very gay friendly! 10/10

Thank you for a wonderful welcome after our journey from the Cotswolds we had a lovely 3 day break at the Marsten breakfast was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. The rooms were decorated and maintained to a high standard.

I don't think I have ever stayed anywhere where the welcome was so warm, sincere and friendly! We were greeted by Craig who immediately took an interest in what we might like to do during our stay and provided us with a map of Torquay, leaflets about the attractions and his own local knowledge. He also gave us a list of the best places to eat and drink in the area.
The breakfasts were fantastic with more than enough to eat. lovely buffet with the best home made granola I have tasted in my life. Regarding the cooked breakfast menu, nothing was too much trouble and Ian was more than happy to provide a sausage butty, which wasn't on the menu.
I did read a review which suggested the furniture needed updating. I feel this is unfair. The furniture waslovely and perfect for the hotel and I would have been a bit disappointed to book a stay in a Victorian guest house and find it full of stuff from Ikea!
We had a lovely stay and would highly recommend the Marstan. Hope to go back soon!

I was very dissapointed in this b and b after reading all the good reviews, we were charged for something we didn't have out of the room and I found the rooms to be quite stuffy, not a child friendly place and too expensive for what it is

We had a most pleasant and enjoyable stay at the MARSTAN Hotel. It's in a beautiful location, in a quiet neighbourhood within easy walking distance of the village. The owners, Ian and Craig were most helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is very charming and cozy, with a lot of character. We had a triple room which was a good size. The beds were amazing and we had a most incredible sleep. The complimentary full English breakfast was EXCELLENT and Jean our server is wonderful. I would also recommend The Orange Tree in the village, for a dinner; FABULOUS food!

Having not been to Torquay for 20 years, we were passing through and decided to stop at the Marstan for the night. We were not disappointed as Craig and Ian made us feel most welcome and were very helpful in their knowledge of the surrounding area regarding restaurants and places to visit etc. The room was very comfortable the decor of the whole hotel was outstanding.
It was a pity we could only stay one night, but if we are back in town again we will certainly stay at the Marstan!
We would certainly recomend this hotel to anyone who expects good value and a warm welcome.
