We spent three fantastic nights at the Marstan, and it was absolutely faultless. The welcome was warm, the room we had was comfortable and tastefully decorated, with a great little bathroom. The weather didn't faze us, and the hotel's location is great for walks in and around Torquay. It didn't put us off the hot tub either, which was sublime.
Special mention must be made of the breakfasts, which were spectacularly tasty - I can highly recommend the stack of pancakes!!

We recently spent 3 nights at the Marstan with some of our friends. It was the fifth time my husband and I have stayed there and once again we were so pleased we did. Ian and Craig know how to make their guests feel welcome from the minute they walk in the door. Tea or coffee is provided along with a chat and luggage is transported to your room while you sit in the lounge overlooking the pool, hot tub and garden.

One of our friends hadn't stayed there before and she was particularly impressed with the breakfasts which are always impressive. My husband and I really enjoyed one of the new additions to the breakfast menu which was pancakes with maple syrup and bananas, which were delicious. It was nice to see Jean again serving us at breakfast; she always seems to know when you need additional coffee, tea or toast before you do and is very knowledgeable about the local area.

We like to have a drink in the bar before going out for dinner and Ian and Craig always ensure that everyone is included in the conversation. They are happy to make suggestions for places to eat and encourage feedback regarding how you found local restaurants, bars and attractions.

We love the location as it is near to Meadfoot beach if you turn right out of the Marstan or if you turn left and head down the hill to the harbour there are restaurants and shops by the clock tower. The round robin trips, Kent's Cavern and Sharpham Vineyard near Totnes were attractions we enjoyed visiting this time round. Further along just past the newly renovated rock gardens an 18 hole adventure golf course with lagoons to trap poorly hit balls was also a good laugh despite the sudden rainfall when we were there.

We would thoroughly recommend the Marstan as a great place to stay in Torquay and one of the friendliest and relaxed places we have ever stayed.

So we were back again. You are always assured of a happy smiling welcome when you cross the Marstan’s threshold. The place is delightfully decorated and furnished with period pieces. The place is always spotlessly clean – both public areas and bedrooms and bathrooms. The hosts will do their upmost to resolve any small issues that you have or may arise during your stay – including calling-in favours at local restaurants to make reservations for guests.
The cooked English breakfast is a tour de force of premium local products all freshly prepared and served by a waitress for whom nothing is too much trouble. The freshly home made croissants are good enough to make a Paris Patisserie weep. There are healthier options, but hey – this is a holiday! I just wish I could find a local restaurant half as good.
There is a small bar in which every guest is made to feel they have something interesting to say as one of the hosts engage them in conversation and try to involve everyone there in the exchanges.
I always wish I could stay longer.

Helped by fabulous weather - we had a really great time. The hotel was well placed for beach and town - but quiet (even though our room was at the front). Service and hospitality excellent. Our (Premier) room and ensuite was very welcoming, large and well decorated / furnished. The bed was extremely comfortable and bedding of good quality. Breakfast was very good too with plenty of choice. It was a shame we didn't bring our swimming kit as the hot tub was inviting and the pool would have been too but, depite the good weather, March was a little too early for outdoor swimming.

We stayed here in the summer of 2011 with our young daughter and the hotel was fantastic. The accommodation was spacious and we had a double room, with a huge adjoining bathroom. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the hotel itself was very well set out, with a separate bar, lounge area and breakfast area. The hotel also had a Jacuzzi and swimming pool, both in excellent condition and due to the capacity of the hotel - there was always space and peace in these areas.
The breakfast was immense, and me and my daughter still talk about the breakfast, the best sausages and bacon we have ever had! Sometimes, being a little bit lazy I woke up a little later and passed the allocated breakfast hours, however the staff used to always send up a sausage and bacon sandwich with the wife, foil wrapped to be kept warm (the small things matter) speaking of the staff, the best I have ever came across and the warmth they showed us will always be remembered, they were in particular fantastic with my daughter Millie, giving her extra care and entertainment - especially the Piano playing.
The location is excellent, with a beach and the town centre nearby, the town centre had some excellent seafood restaurants. During our stay we visited Paignton Zoo, Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth Town and Castle and many other things, a great relaxing holiday made better by the Marstan Hotel. Always recommended and thanks for everything Craig and Ian!
