Stayed at the Marstan for 3 days in August on our first visit to Torquay. Craig, Ian and the team made us all feel very welcome, and couldn't be more helpful. The family room is spot on for a a family with 2 young children. The location is great, nice and quiet yet a short walk into Torquay. The breakfast is to die for (especially the pancakes). The pool was great for the kids and the hot tub is a great place to relax when the sun is out. Next time we are in Torquay we will be back.

Originally we were looking a hotels with a sea view, however on reading some bad reports we decided to go for quality instead and we are so glad we did. The Marstan is a charming "Boutique" hotel, tastefully decorated and furnished in a period style. We booked a premier room and we loved it - see photos. Both room and ensuite lovely and clean.
Hospitality - We were greeted and booked in by Ian who instantly made us very welcome, providing tea and coffee within minutes of us arriving. The following morning we met Craig, who gave us some great advice, recomending that we take the coastal walk from Daddy Hole Plain to the harbour, a lovely 40 minute walk with fantastic views.
Location - 10 minutes walk to the harbour and another 5 mins to the town centre- absolutely ideal. The Marstan is located up quite a steep hill from the harbour, but not a problem for us even though we are in our mid 50's, we just took it easy. You can get a bus if you needed it. Hotel car Park has, from memory about 6 spaces and is steep and a bit tight, however we parked outside on the road for 3 of 4 nights instead which was perfectly ok as the hotel is in a safe affluent area.
Facilities - We did not use the pool, tub or bar but all three did look inviting! WiFi is available and we managed to iplay the Belgian GP highlights on a netbook with no issues.
Food - The breakfast choice is amazing, offering a great traditional full english but the Salmon and scrambled egg on a toasted bagel and the 2 egg cheese/bacon/mushroom omelette were just superb. Sadly, I didnt get the chance to try the kippers or pancakes. This is of course all supplented by cereals, fruit, toast etc.
There is no evening restaurant, however there are plently nearby and a list of recomendations is supplied in the hotel paperwork.
All in all a fantastic 4 nights hosted by lovely people. If you want bland decoration and disinterested staff then this is not the place for you! If you appreciate something a little different and being genuinely looked after then do not hesitate to book, I'd be amazed if you were disapointed. All I need now is another week off!

Room Tip: Premier room 4 is superb

The Marstan is in a fantastic location, on a lovely quiet road, a few minutes to Meadfoot beach and cafe, and 10 minutes walk to the harbour in the other direction. it is very clean, comfortable and very relaxing. The pool and gardens are fantastic to relax in at the end of the day especially before going into the hot tub. The breakfasts are cooked to order so are fresh and piping hot, and the two ladies who serve it are really friendly and helpful. Also Ian and Craig who own the hotel are very welcoming and nothing would be too much trouble.
We enjoyed a walk over BAbbacombe downs to the Carys Arms for a relaxing drink overlooking the bay.
We will definitely return to the Marstan.

this was the third year that we visited the Marstan and it was supurb on each occasion. It is situated in a perfect spot to get away from the busy town centre but within walking distance of Toruay of the beautiful Meadfoot beach. tThe staff are very welcoming and the Hotel is spotless and has beautiful furnishings. A wonderful breakfast with a vast choice of menu is provided and freshly cooked for each guest on request. Very relaxing atmosphere and good advice ofn places to visit. Will be going again next year.
Superb!

Room Tip: Room with the Queen bed, sheer luxuary.

The Marston is high quality accommodation offering a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with service based very much on a personal approach. Rooms are large and airy, meticulously clean and with comfortable beds and furnishings. Although we had booked as two singles, our rooms were large doubles with every amenity. As others have said, the included breakfasts are superb and as such they set you up nicely for the day ahead. My only slightly adverse comment is that the Guesthouse is a 10-15 min walk from the harbour but up a fairly steep hill. That said, this means that the Guesthouse is in a quieter part of the town.

Room Tip: all rooms appear to be of a similar high quality standard
