“Great day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

Had a lovely time watching penguins, otters and a variety of other birds and fish. Feeding times were good and very informative. Staff were passionate about the Animals and very friendly, all in all a great day and value for money.

“P, P, P Pick up your ticket today!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

Always a joy to visit on our frequent trips to the bay.

Fantastic setting, and a whole host of exhibits, which include the most famous residents....the penguins.

You can also see Seals, Otters, an array of se birds, fish, and Puffins, as well as a working replica of "Jaws!"

You can catch most, if not all at feeding times if you wish, but seeing any of the animals and birds on show is a real delight for young and old.

Its also very educational for youngsters with special areas for activities and learning, although staff are always at hand if you have any questions.

Take advantage of the double ticket on entry, this entitles you to a giant slice of discount for nearby Paignton Zoo too.

We shall return!

“Penguin Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

I just returned from a Keeper Experience Day at Living Coasts and it was brilliant! LC is definitely the place for the penguin fancier in your life since their Macaroni and African penguins wander freely around the site so you can get up close and personal (but don't touch please). My experience was different from a regular visitor as I was able to assist the keepers feeding the penguins and other animals. However, I thought LC was lovely and I will definitely be bringing the family for a visit next time.
Worth saying that LC is a small coastal zoo with penguins, auks, otters, fur seals, a small aquarium and wading birds - Sea World it isn't ( but if you've been Black Fish that's not necessarily a bad thing). But with the right expectation this is a lovely half day out. The zoo is completely enclosed in a large netted structure overlooking the bay. Inca Terns and other birds fly freely round the site which is beautifully constructed and maintained. It has a nice laid back atmosphere and dedicated and knowledgable staff - I spent a half day working with them so I can testify to that.
Suitable for all ages - basically anyone who is into birds, marine mammals and fish!
I had a great day and I highly recommend it.

“Awful, don't bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

We went because it is supposedly twinned with Paignton Zoo, which we love. This however is a complete waste of time and money, nothing to see except some penguins free to roam, ( which is the reason for the 1 star), and a load of dirty fish tanks Would definitely not recommend.

Thank you for your comments. Living Coasts has over 50 species including seals, otters and numerous birds as well as 22 types of fish and crustacea so it is a little inaccurate to say we only have penguins which we do in fact have two types of. Our most recent survey had over 86% of visitors either agreeing or strongly agreeing that they enjoyed their visit with over 80% rating their overall impression as good or excellent which is reflected in the number of positive reviews we have received on trip advisor recently.
With regards to the water quality the larger tanks use an open water system using fresh sea water direct from Torbay which limits the control we have on the quality of water that comes in. As well as sea water we also bring in sand and seaweed from the bay which can affect water clarity and the current warm weather is causing algal blooms in the tanks. Our tank windows are regularly cleaned both from above the water using long handled brushes and from inside using divers. We have been unable to dive as frequently in the seal tank recently due to husbandry reasons but there is a sign in place apologising and explaining this to our visitors.
Thank you for taking the trouble to comment on your visit as we value all our visitors feedback.
