“What you'd expect from a cheap Pitch and Putt”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2013

For less than a fiver, you can play 9 holes of pitch and putt. As expected, a few 'dads' playing that wanted to show off their swings, along with the rest of the family who's balls were going everywhere. Quite slow as you're often behind groups of 4-6 people who understandably don't know the proper etiquette of 'the gold course'. With the holes so close to each other there's a lot of waiting for people to move out of the way of wayward balls - could do with a lot more space.
Good fun if you don't take it too serious.

“Pretty x plesant stroll x nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013 via mobile

Plenty to do xx You can pitch and putt or bowls for £4.50 or combine the two for £7.50 and if you do 18 holes and play as many games of bowls as you like so you can spend many hours. Then walk amongst the beautiful gardens stop at the lovely alternative cafe for a spot of lunch. Watch the pros do the bowls properly. Maybe play tennis or a round of crazy golf. Just across from Torquay main beach and ten minute leisurely walk to the harbour and town.

“Really good fun and a good time, but a tired course”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

A good location in the beautiful Park with the Tennis and Bowls lawn and the crazy golf amongst the attractions.

The Good Points:

Its good value at £4.50 (£7.50 for the bowls as well) compared to the crazy golf at £5.50.

Its a good use of time, although the course is 9 holes they are happy for you to go around twice making it 18 holes at less busy times.

For Adults and older children it is great fun and far more challenging than the crazy golf. We like it so much we played three times!

The Bad points:

The course is quite tired, the bunkers have what appears as huge rabbit holes and weeds in and there is litter around the perimeter, also the areas around the mats where you tee off is so bad trying to find a level area to tee from is very difficult.

There is no signage on the course its self ( a handy map on the score card may help? ) so some people clearly struggled where to go next. although the flags are numbered its difficult to see as the hang straight down without the wind.

At busy times it can become increasingly frustrating as queues become quite long at the holes waiting for groups to finish, some groups that we saw playing were six or more and some with young children as this takes much longer to play a hole than just the two of us..obviously queues happen.

All in all really good fun, the only suggestions I have apart from the general tiding and upkeep, the bunkers need sorting (maybe rakes?)Is bins around the course (helping with the litter! as the hut provides drinks etc but only a wheelie bin on the way in) and perhaps a map on the reverse of the score card to help lost players!?

“Alright... But...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013 via mobile

Does what it says on the tin. Expensive for a 4 year old who is too little to play properly. A few of them were flooded, so couldn't be used properly, yet they still charged us full price! But it passed the time one evening.

“Family attraction, nice location”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2013

Abbey Pich & Putt 9 hole course is in a attractive location between Torre Abbey and the sea & provides gentle entertainment for those who just want a knock-around and don't expect too much from the 'course'. It only costs £4.50 to play so is quite reasonable. The greens are passable for a Pitch & Putt, but all the bunkers were neglected and in poor condition at the time of my visit, There was grass growing out of them and holes & footprints, which had clearly been there for days if not weeks, mainly because there are no rakes.
There is no signage on the course from green to next tee, so people were wandering around tyying to see the numbers on the flags. At some stage someone has painted numbers on the rubber mats but most have worn off.
There were empty plastic bottles and quite a bit of rubbish in several areas of the course, presumably thrown there by course users or the previous evening by antisocial people.
I had taken a golfing friend telling her that we could have a bit of fun and practice our short game. We were left feeling disappointed & didn't stay long for the above reasons and a felt bit sad that the Pitch & Putt course did not portray the right impression to the many visitors to the area.
I thought it was a local council attraction, so asked the young man at the 'hut' if if could pass my feedback onto a manager. As a matter of principle I also asked for half my money back, as the bunkers were not playable and we had cut short our 'game'.
He made a call and I was handed a mobile phone to speak to a man who did not introduce himself and just said in an angry tone "Yes and what's your complaint!" I politely told him the above details, but he seemed angry throughout. When asked he gave his name, which I think was Heath Parkin and said he was " the owner, not just some manager".
He was disappointed that I chose to complain, as he said that most people were happy with the course and he ended by saying that he hoped it would make me happy that he would do something about the bunkers. It will, as I feel that visitors to Torquay should expect a good standard from all the attractions. I hope the owner also buys some rakes (which can be taken in at night), pays attention to better signage and tidies up the litter, so people can enjoy what should be a lovely attraction.
