“Great short break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2013

This hotel is currently undergoing a renovation programme but none of this detracts from it being a very welcoming place to stay.
The room we stayed in had a lovely view over the gardens and to the sea. The room was very comfortable clean and welcoming.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they certainly all know how to 'go the extra mile' for their guests.
For now the restaurant is closed but there is a breakfast room where the most delicious breakfast menu is served. We certainly did not go hungry!!
We will definitely return to this lovely hotel and look forward to seeing how all the renovations will come together.
Very many thanks to all the staff and Good Luck for the new season.

Stayed for one night - the location is a short walk to all amenities - our room was massive - with a sea view. Lovely and clean too. The hotel is to have some renovations over the next few months so will hopefully return early next year. It's adaquate. Parking on site. What more could you want.

We have just returned from this wonderful hotel. We stayed in room 207 and as previous reviews stated, the sea views and general outlook from this room were lovely. The room was very well decorated and the bathroom had very good fittings, just a bit disappointed that there was no shower over the bath, although there was a handheld shower on the mixer taps.
The staff were great, friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was good and the dining room had a nice view over the garden down to the seafront.
Would definitely go back and would recommend to friends and family.
We also ate at the Bull & Bush as recommended by reception, good pub grub.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Marquis Hotel. It was our first time visiting Torquay, and we searched for a nice hotel that would be suitable, as I am very fussy. We had a very pleasant stay at the Marquis. The hotel has been refurbished, and the rooms are very nice. The hotel is very clean, and we stayed in room 207 which has a nice sea view, it's a large room which is decorated very well. The bathroom was very clean and again nicely decorated. Although it could do with a shower curtain. The staff are very nice, we were shown to our room by the hotel owner on arrival (who is very pleasant). And he recommended a nice local pub for us (the Bull & Bush). I am fussy with hotels, but I was very pleased with this hotel. The hotel also has great access to the sea front, and the Abbey Park is accessible from the hotel (short path linking to the park). It has a fun pitch & putt course, and crazy golf, plus tennis etc. We are a young couple, but I'd say this hotel would be suitable for everyone (couples, families etc). Has a good central location, and we'd recommend visiting the local marina and going on a boat trip. We went on a bay cruise, which is great to see more of Torquay.
Overall, great breakfast, lovely rooms, great service from all staff and I would definitely recommend this hotel, and we will certainly use it again for the next time we visit Torquay.
Thank you to the staff, look forward to visiting again. Louise & Richard from Swansea.

Room Tip: Request a room with a shower if you would like one, as some only have baths. Room 207 has a nice se...

We stayed at the Marquis for five nights 20th - 26th September 2013. Having enjoyed our previous stay in 2010 when it was under the previous owner we heard of its' change of ownership and recent refurbishment and we were very excited to return to see how much it had improved. We were certainly not dissapointed. There has been a tremendous improvement
in the bedrooms, including new carpeting of good quality. Bathrooms are brand new with a lovely shower in ours also of good quality. The food both at breakfast and the evening meals
has seen a big improvement and is now in our opinion worthy of a higher 'star rating'
Our room / bedding & bathroom were very clean with plenty of tea/coffee etc. and bisquits replenished every day. Mike and his Staff were always very helpful. This lovely hotel is a beautiful building with loads of character internally. The dining room in particular has a splendid view toward the sea. Surely there can't be a better place to eat anywhere in Torquay!
The Marquis is ideally located a short walk from Torquay centre on almost level terrain and has a private access on to Tor Abbey Gardens and sea front. It would be suitable for families or business travellers alike. Having really thought hard for something to criticise I have to conclude that there was nothing at all - everything seemed just really good. reasonably priced as well. Well worth a visit. We will certainly have no hesitation in recommending the Marquis to all our friends and we will certainly be returning. I think we had better book earlier next year as when word gets around about this place I may find them fully booked.
Thank you Mike and all your staff for making us feel so welcome during our stay and for explaining your plans for this lovely hotel. My wife and I wish you all every success in the future.
Regards John & Daph Rollings

Room Tip: Try Room 207 for a good sea view

A belated review about the lovely stay we had at the Marquis back in August. Freshly renovated with a large, spacious family room with modern bathroom and very clean. Staff were lovely and friendly, couldn't be more accommodating. The Hotel location is perfect for a stroll into centre Torquay. Breakfast was nice, served in lovely room with good views. Great value for money. Thanks for a lovely stay!
