We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff, but when we were shown our double room we could not quite believe it, there was a bath instead of a shower and the toilet is almost touching the bath in fact the so called bathroom is a small cupboard the sink is in the bedroom it would not fit in the bathroom ! And there is a tall wardrobe right next to the bed you are touching it all the time we could not move the bed away from it as the room won't allow us to move the bed no room in the room ! The room is very cold no heating on and can't turn heating on either no knobs on the radiators. My husbands parents had a twin room again very cold and they are in their eighties but they do have a nice bathroom though, no extra blankets in the rooms. Our room was number 111 avoid if you can. We put up with it because we were only staying one night thank goodness. The bar was very well run and warm. No snacks apart from crisps at the bar. The kitchen had a problem and was closed it was a very good job we had a cooked lunch. I wish I booked the Premier Inn just down the road with a Beefeater attached.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 111 on the ground floor, it's small and just not worth £59 no sea view wh...

Thank you for your recent review, i am very sorry you only managed to find only this small list to pick fault with. All Heating is on a timer in the Hotel and soon warms up very quickly. It is much more constructive for the Hotel if you bring these issues up in house so we can be aware of the issue and deal with them immediately instead of setting up a new trip advisor account and airing one side of a story.

Best Wishes

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the building is very beautiful, albeit in a state of refurbishment. The food was more than expected for the price, although on one morning at breakfast they ran out of beans and hash browns for the full english with no alternative offered. The evening meals we had were great value and cooked to a good standard. The room we were given was very clean and comfortable and had a lovely sea view down the gardens. The staff really stood out in our experience of this hotel and I would highly recommend it and would stay here again in the future.

I am very sorry for running out of Beans & Hash browns i have told the kitchen to fill the shelves and freezers so this does not happen again. I would like to think 3663 are reading this review and make sure they improve on there delivery times and this issue would not happen again.
My only promise is when you return you can have double portions.

Excellent welcome from all staff, shown to room which was good apart from only a bath with hand held shower !, sea view from room (206).
Breakfast was good and tasty, evening meal was not so good over cooked steak and noodles over cooked and watery!. Very good price for time of year, would return at a later date. Thank you to all the staff for a warm and welcome stay.

stayed at the marquis with family , twelve in total, for a family event in Torquay. The staff at this hotel are just amazing, nothing is too much trouble for them. Rooms are very clean and beds very comfortable although furniture could do with an upgrade , but this was my only complaint. Breakfast was fab and plenty of it, dinning room has lovely sea views and is bright and welcoming. All in all, a great value hotel in a great location. Would definitely stay there again.

Arrived to discover my telephone booking had not been entered onto the booking system. Fortunately they had a room. The room (203) was ok with a nice sea view, however the mattress was very soft and the window was only single-glazed with one pane being cracked. We found the room to be very noisy, with numerous doors slamming into the early hours of the morning, as well as what was described by management as an "incident" at 3 in the morning. As well as that, there was external noise from something being moved around outside in the night. At dawn, it became a camping experience with the single-glazed window proving to be no opposition to the dawn chorus. So after a night of very little sleep we requested a change of room. We were moved to room 113 on the ground floor, which was basic, with single-glazed windows once again. These proved ineffective against the noise from a nightclub across the road, which carried on to 1am. It also had a radiator which enjoyed clunking at 6 second intervals for long periods at a time. However, this was an improvement on our previous room! Both rooms that we occupied had very thin walls and you could clearly hear what was being said either in adjacent rooms or in the corridor.

Breakfast consisted of a buffet and a hot breakfast menu option. The full English breakfast was average, but never very warm, and always arrived on cold plates! It could also take some time for the breakfast servers to work out which table the breakfast was going to!

It is obvious that the hotel is undergoing some transformation under the new owners, and that the hotel has a lot of potential. However, urgent attention needs to be given to soundproofing the rooms more, beginning with the windows which have not yet been double-glazed.

We would have rated the hotel as terrible, however Kayleigh at reception did everything she could to sort out the problems, despite having limited resources at her disposal.

Dear Rob P 75
I can only apologise that the Hotel failed to make your experience an enjoyable one. We have experienced a few teething issues since opening last month with computer systems. I can only take your review as constructive and this will help us to improve with the points that have been highlighted in your review.
Please contact myself directly so i can hopefully solve this problem.

Dear Redsmobilehairdresser

Thank you for your recent review and your positive comments reference the staff. Its a great shame that the chef on duty failed to please you and to serve a disappointing meal. As of today we have introduced a new fantastic Bistro menu with a new chef so i can only hope we do not have these problems again. I look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Stayed during April 2014. Room was nothing like shown on website, was small but adequate. Room was acceptably clean.
The food however is another story. The starter was ok, the main course though was not. Steak was supposed to be well done but was cremated. Salmon and noodles on the salmon and noodle stir fry were over cooked and the vegetables were almost raw, dont think they even hit the pan. Choice of 2 deserts or cheeseboard selection. Out of the 2 deserts, 1 was ice cream and the other came with ice cream. This is fine in theory but unfortunately on the first night of our stay there wasnt any ice cream as staff had left it out of the freezer and it had melted. We left without desert. And ate out elsewhere on the second and final evening of our stay.
The staff were friendly and polite.
