Just returned from a short break here. Really lovely hotel. Larger than a B&B, but not too big that I becomes impersonal, as some of the larger hotels in this area.
Still has some of the character of when it was once a grand family home in a bygone era, whilst incorporating modern luxuries such as a beautiful bathroom with a good size walk in shower; and comfortable bright rooms with large windows and flat screen TV, and tea/ coffee making facilities. We did have family room, so be aware thy a some rooms ( particularly sea view rooms may be smaller).
Has a Grand sweeping staircase leading down to a comfortable lounge seating area, facing a large traditional fireplace. Adjacent to this area you will find "The Red Door" bar & restaurant. This has a modern decor, but still has a cosy good feel about it. The bar is a good size, not too big and not too small. The restaurant, leading off from the bar area, has large floor to ceiling windows and offers superb views of the gardens and the bay of Torquay. A really beautiful place to dine at night, with a lovely ambience. Also has some entertainment in here on some evenings. And with the complimentary bottle of chilled white wine that we received for dining there on our first night, is was a perfect start to our break away.
This restaurant is also where the buffet style breakfast is served. This was also really lovely. Snacks are available during the day, and can be taken on the roof terrace, which is lovely in the summer months; again offering superb views whilst feeling that you are in a grand country setting, rather than a fifteen minute walk to the town centre, and just a five minute walk to the sea front. Also, as it is situated on the popular Belgrave Road, you have close access to the land train and many other tour buses.
This hotel also has fair size car park for residents. Would definitely stay there again!!

Room Tip: Contact hotel direct to ensure best room to suit your requirements, such as family or sea view rooms

On a recent break in Torquay we stayed in a family room at the Marquis hotel. The room was lovely, a double bed and a single bed, TV, wardrobe dressing table and chairs with a beautiful bathroom with a lovely walk in shower. The room was a really good size with kettle and coffee etc, including several packets of biscuits - all very nice and appreciated. Only disappointment was the sea view that was stated on our booking (with Booking.com) was not available. The manager explained that this had not come through on their booking and advised calling them direct for future bookings.
The hotel was perfectly situated a short walk from the seafront, fair and not too much further from the town and the shops. Also has bars and restaurants nearby and is close to the pick up lint fro the Agatha Christie tour and the buses to Babbacombe and Paignton.
The hotel restaurants - 'The Red Room' provided a very good breakfast selection but not such a wide diner selection. It has floor to ceiling windows with a lovely sea view to admire whilst dining.
The hotel decor is lovely and relaxing and has a nice atmosphere. Also parking and free wifi available. Overall a wonderful stay and I would stay at the Marquis on future visits.

Room Tip: Call direct to ensure sea view if so required. The hotel only has 6 sea view rooms.

Booked at the last minute but glad we did. Asked for and got a ground floor room. Massive room with a queen and single bed. Parking no problem and all the staff very helpful. Met the owner who was a very friendly and interesting fella. Breakfast also very good. Short walk to the beach. Recommended.

We booked the Marquise at the last minute as we wanted to visit Torquay. Boy were we pleased we did ! There is a good sized car park on arriving then we were greeted by very welcoming staff on reception. Our room was number 5 a garden room that was accessible to and from the car park. The room was lovely and airy with nice white bed linen and a well stocked tea/ coffee tray. The room and shower room were very clean and we were thrilled with it all. We decided to dine in the hotel for dinner and sat at the huge picture window over looking the gardens that then looked out to sea ! The 3 course meal for £18.95 was beautiful ! It was very fresh and home made too . We also enjoyed some local lager which was lovely to try .
We slept very well as the beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. At breakfast we helped ourselves to cereal and juices then to the hot breakfast . Staff served tea and coffee and really were an asset to the hotel. All the staff we met wether on reception , bar , dining room and breakfast room were great ! They ensured we didn't want for anything . The Marquise is definitely our hotel to go to in Torquay ! Thanks for a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed at the Marquis from Thursday to Sunday at the end of July with a group of 7 girls and this honestly was the best holiday we've ever had in Torquay. The staff at the hotel literally couldn't do enough for us. We felt welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door. Absolutely everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful and full of local tips and info.
The view from the lovely large roof terrace is great and not something that they advertise but they should! It's perfect for a few quiet drinks whilst soaking up the sunshine.
They also have a fantastic restaurant with views over the gardens and down to the sea and the evening meal was delicious and the service is truly fab. Breakfast, again was tasty and the staff are so accommodating. Faultless. The rooms are nice and clean with new bathrooms, you can't ask for much more. The town is 10 minutes walk or a cheap taxi fare away so is a great location.
The staff really do this little gem of a hotel proud. Thank you to all the staff... Mike, Tom (my favorite) big Bart, little Bart, Colin, Zack & Richard, to only name a few for making it such a wonderful weekend. We will definitely be returning... and can't wait!

Stayed at the Marquis this weekend - 2nd Aug 14, with a group of 8 friends. Hotel was lovely, clean with some beautiful original features. Breakfast came with a sea view. Richard the reception manager was unbelievably helpful, and couldn't do enough to make us welcome after a bit of a mix up with the booking. There is a delightful roof terrace with views over the gardens to the sea. The reception staff were all very pleasant.as were the waiting staff at breakfast. The bar man was accommodating when we arrived back at the hotel for a nightcap in the evening . All the rooms were clean and looked recently refurbished. We walked into town and back, which was a flat 10-15 minute stroll each way.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to return........it was great value for money. Thank you Marquis for a enjoyable weekend.
