“Cold shower”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

The Marquis has recently been refurbished is still under going some problems - particularly with the plumbing on the weekend we visited. My view is always it's not what happens that I worry about but how it's dealt with! The staff where helpful and gave small discount for the inconvenience of having cold showers both in the evening and the following morning. It would have been better if we had not had to ask.

Having said that the rooms were fresh bright and clean - the staff very friendly and efficient and the views lovely.

Room Tip: Make sure the lift is working some of the rooms are a bit of a climb.

Dear June Old

Thank you for the taking the time to leave honest feedback reference your stay at the Hotel.
I would really like to take this time to say sorry.
We did have a plumbing issue which is now all fixed, We are still a new Hotel and i agree the reception team should of offered a discount instead of being asked.
This is just a training error and everyday we are improving to reach high standards.

Thank you

This was a fantastic family holiday.
We travelled to Torquay because as a small boy my Mum and Dad took my brother and I on a family summer holiday every year for the first 8 years of my life. Mum passed away earlier this year so Dad wanted to visit and relive some happy memories.
So we booked the Marquis Hotel at a very reasonable price. A single room for Dad. A double room for my brother and his wife. And a family room for my wife, two children, small dog, and myself.
We stayed in rooms 111, 110 and 216 respectively.
All the rooms were very clean and tidy and very comfortable.
Sure there were things to complain about if you wanted to be picky but there was nothing that actually spoiled our holiday.
Sometimes it was difficult to get hot water. The drains were blocked which apparently produced unpleasantness. The lighting failed and there was am early morning fire alarm. But in my opinion these can happen in any hotel and it is the way that things are dealt with that makes the stay good or bad. Each situation was dealt with promptly and in a friendly manner and resolved in good time.
The service we received was top class and was the reason why we enjoyed our holiday so much and why this rating is so high.
Zach was almost a fixture at the hotel. Sometimes a barman. A waiter. A receptionist. Most importantly he befriended our little boy Freddie (7) who says "he was really nice"
The service was so good that the hotel even provide a Scouse waitress (Sam) who "was really friendly"according to my daughter Tabitha (9,
The food was delicious and despite what we had previously read on trip advisor we didn't really notice if there was a long delay between courses.
We stayed half board (bed, breakfast and evening meal). Breakfast was a buffet style and was lovely.
The evening menu changed only slightly from day to day whilst we stayed. It would have been nice to have a touch more variety but the choice of starters, main courses and desserts were ample and when we asked if we could have some more child friendly meals that were not on the menu we were told that the chef would duly oblige with whatever we asked for. We didn't need to ask as my children chose from the menu anyway.
All in all a fantastic holiday made special by a stay at the Marquis Hotel!

A lovely hotel combining some original features with more modern, current décor. The gardens of the hotel are currently being tidied up and replanted with some lovely, bright flowerbeds and I'm in no doubt when finished will compliment the rest of the premises. We had a double room comprising of a spacious built in wardrobe, an en suite bathroom with a shower over the bath, (including complimentary toiletries), and a very comfortable bed. Every morning our room was cleaned to a very high standard and tea/coffee facilities were replenished complete with a variety of biscuits.
The breakfast offered a great choice of fruit, cereal and a cooked selection all in a buffet style so you could help yourself to whatever you wanted and as many times as you wanted. The evening menu again offered a variety of dishes to suit all taste buds. The food was cooked to perfection and there was a lot of detail in it's presentation clearly showing the chef's pride in his work.
All the staff were very friendly and it was apparent how important it was to them that your stay was as happy and as enjoyable as possible.

Just spent 3 nights at the marquis hotel Torquay, the new owners have made some vast improvements and everythings looks lovely and clean, apart from the rooms kept for dog owners and their pets, the rooms on lower ground are very dark and give a dingy feel although they are clean and great bathrooms, but its let down by the doors and frames which are rotting away we asked to be moved and got a room on ground floor which was the same but brighter, also with a door to the outside, so walking your dog at anytime does not involve walking through reception which is great,
two points i made to the manager and i do hope he passes them on to the owner as he said he would, no bin in garden to encourage responsible owners to pick up, as i did, but then i had to walk half a mile into the park to find a bin to put it in,
secondly rooms kept for pet owners and their pets, should not be carpeted.
my dogs are clean but i dont believe all dogs are my two were sniffing all around the carpet the whole time, and it defineatly smelt doggie in the room, a laminate floor can be moped in no time and then no smells would linger,
Just one other thing, the cornflakes are a cheap copy, this morning they ran out of orange juice, and just toast is sad, it would be nice to have a choice of rolls, breads and pastries.
I am sure given time they will get it right, yes we will return it was a pleasant stay,

Room Tip: all rooms have been decorated and new shower rooms in every room, first floor and 2nd floor are th...

Very sad to return home after staying at the marquis Hotel as we had a wonder time there and wanted to stay longer. The staff were all very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were clean, welcoming and spacious. We will recommend to all our friends and we will be booking another stay there soon. Thank you again Tom and all the Marquis Hotel staff for a wonderful stay.

We booked in here after having an awful experience at a neighbouring hotel and the staff went out of there way to accommodate us.
Would highly recommend this beautiful, friendly hotel.
Will definitely return in the future.
A massive thank you to the manager and staff
