“One night stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2012

We booked for one night on one of the Hotels special offers. A fantastic location with wonderful views. Lovely room warm and clean with a comfortable bed and large bathroom with shower over the bath. Fantastic 6 cource dinner excellent food and quickly served. There was entertainment, if you wanted it but we decided to go back to our room. Complimentary tea and coffee in your room and a large TV also free wi fi. The breakfast menu easy extensive, my poached eggs were perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will certainly be staying at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Even though we were downstairs we still had a lovely view over the garden to the sea.

My husband and I have just returned from a 3 night dbb turkey and tinsel break.
Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful.
The evening meal was good but the breakfasts were not so good.
Overall we would recommend this hotel.

Thank you for your review and recommendation. I am glad you enjoyed your evening meals, but am saddened you did not find the breakfasts so good. If you would care to contact me with a little more detail I would be happy to investigate any issues.

We have just returned from another lovely stay at the Headland. This time we had a "club" room. The room was adequate and very spacious but it was the bathroom that earned the title "club". It was very large with black and white tiles and a large free standing shower - excellent. Yet again, they outdid themselves with the food offering - superb value, lovely cooked and presented with a varied choice. I have to say also that the restaurant staff, especially their manager, together with the chamber maids are second to none!

So, why only four stars - parking has always been a problem with very limited onsite parking. Yet again, a vehicle had doubled parked and blocked our car in together with the other two parked either side. What added insult to the wound, was that the car belonged to one of the maintenance men, who should have known better! An apology was offered but the inconvenience of going back into the hotel, locating the driver etc. is not acceptable. I wonder at the mentality of these people! Also, yet again the two male bar staff let the side down again. Tables were not cleared after 40 minutes and the bar left unattended for lengthy periods of times and when we went looking, found them talking to the receptionist and they were NOT talking about work!

Having stated the negatives, I have to say that the positives outweigh them. The hotel, is clean, well maintained and excellent value. We will be returning.

Room Tip: Some rooms are not accessible by the lift, so if you have any problems walking, ensure that you requ...

We are delighted that you had another lovely stay and that you enjoyed your Club Room, the food and the services of our Restaurant and Housekeeping staff.
I apologise again for the fact that your car was blocked in by one of our personnel, however briefly.
Your comments regarding two of our bar staff I can assure you have been noted and acted upon. Thank you for letting me know, enabling me to resolve this issue. Whilst we would always prefer direct contact during your stay, so that we can sort things out before your departure, we are nonetheless very grateful for your valuable feedback.
We look forward to your next stay with us.

Stayed at The Headlands Hotel 22nd -28th October 2012. This hotel is a GEM from the warm and friendly greeting on arrival in the imposing entrace and reception area, and being offered tea or coffee and biscuits after our jouney was a nice touch. We stayed in a Club room No 174 on the 2nd floor, this was a huge room with a good sized en-suite and a wondeful view over the bay. All the floors are served with a lift so no difficulty for my 92 year old mother-in law getting upstairs.
The Romanof dining room is an elegant room [formally the Romanof familiy ballroom] the food being served with a wide variety of choice at breakfast and the 6 course evening meal is superb could not fault it at all. We dined at table number 19 and received prompt and very friendly service by Bartz and another waitress who were both attentive to whatever we asked of them. With entertainment on every evening with different artist and acts, or quiet comfortable lounges to relax in made for a really enjoyable holiday. Why on earth this hotel is only awarded 3 stars is an injustice to the hotel and Mr Toby Downer the General Manager and his staff. We will be booking again for 2013.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Club room well worth the extra cost.

Thank you so much for your glowing review and endorsement of all areas. I have passed on your kind comments to our staff, including Bartek, which are much appreciated by everyone. It is great to hear you will be booking for next year and we look forward to welcoming you all again then. With Christmas fast approaching, whilst we are happy to be near the top of the three-star tree, we are going to continue climbing.

My husband and I took my mother and we all had a wonderful 4 nt break in spite of dull dreary weather, it was a pleasure to be in such nice surroundings.
The staff are wonderful, the food superb, better than alot of 4star hotels and we had a wonderful room which was an executive room and definately worth the upgrade. My mother had a club room as it was on the ground floor.
The hotel would be wonderful in summer as there is an outdoor pool and very spacious gardens.
An added bonus which we discovered when we arrived was that we could use the facilities of the sister hotel the Palace in Paignton which is also lovely.
We nipped off to buy swimwear and made good use of the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.... after which all the calories were put back on as we had a cream tea there too!
The staff are very friendly at both hotels and it would be difficult to decide where to go next time. They are very different places as the Headland is more remote and tricky for walking into Torquay as it is so steep, whereas the Palace is on the flat in Paignton.
We were fortunate enough to see it with and without xmas decorations as they were installed whilst we were there.
We will return if we can manage to find a vacancy but would always go for the executive room.
Well done all at the Headland and a special thanks to Megan our lovely waitress.

Room Tip: Very spacious rooms if you pay for upgrade.

It was great to read your fantastic review, for which we thank you most sincerely. Please see my comments to the previous reviewer with regard to our grading. I am so pleased that you also enjoyed some of the facilities of our sister hotel, The Palace, Paignton. Whilst that is on the level for walking into town, we do offer, from our fabulous headland position, our daily complimentary taxi service to the harbour and back.
I am glad you had a preview of our tremendous Christmas decorations, which we anticipate to be award-winning again. I have passed on your special thanks to Megan who said it was a pleasure to look after you in the restaurant. We look forward to your return visit.

Me and my wife booked here for two nights dinner, bed and breakfast to celebrate our anniversary, when we arrived we were greeted by lovely receptionists who were friendly and proffesional, the entrance hall was very grand.
We booked the standard room which had everything you need to have a comfortable stay even flat screen tv and complimentary wifi.

The evening meal was six course and amazing on presentation and taste, the waiters were very proffesional and prompt running like clockwork.
The breakfast was also very nice and plenty on offer, the first day we had waiters deliver breakfast to our room for only a five pound service charge.

The hotel has two bars and has a very good selection of alcoholic drinks available at reasonable prices.

The hotel is a ten minute walk from town centre however the hotel offers complimentary taxi at 10:30am returning at 4:30pm, if you want a private taxi the girls on reception will phone one for you and only costs 3:50 each way.

The hotel manager named Toby made an effort to speak to everybody indevidualy at dinner to ask if the stay was enjoyable.

The cleanliness of the hotel was excellent and the staff are very proffesional in what they do, a very welcoming and grand hotel which me and my wife feels deserves an extre star to bring it up to 4 star.

We will definately return here and stay longer next time as we did not want to leave and during the stay could not find a single fault.

Well done Toby and all your staff, you should be very proud of the above and beyond experiance that you have delivered us"

May I thank you for your comprehensive review/advertisement. It is very gratifying for us to receive such a whole-hearted seal of approval, and we are extremely pleased that you enjoyed such a memorable anniversary with us.
Your comments about us deserving an extra star are much appreciated. Coincidentally we have just had our annual inspection by the main quality assessors,Visit England, and they have awarded us our highest ever percentage rating, making us what we believe to be their highest-rated three star hotel in the Torbay area. We intend to continue with our constant endeavours to move further ahead still.
We eagerly look forward to your next stay with us.

Just got back from an excellent four night break. Food good, hotel good, if a tad to warm, staff very helpful and attentive, house wine too moreish. Criticism? Dinner was slightly rushed, no sooner was the plate taken away the next course arrived, could be slowed down a bit. Nevertheless a great relaxing break just what we needed. Pity the hotel is in Torquay which we found drab depressing and English riviera it is not

We appreciate your honest review and many thanks for that. I am delighted you found your break to be excellent. I apologise you felt the service to be slightly rushed, when a word to your server or our Restaurant Manager could have easily resolved this. We try to achieve a balanced pace of service, but, like the temperature throughout the hotel, it is tricky to always get it just right.
I am sorry you found Torquay to be drab and depressing, and am confident I could change that view radically if you would contact me personally, should you consider returning.
