Livermead House Hotel

Look at the reviews below and it is clear that there is polarised opinion about the Livermead House. Are there faults - unquestionably, yes - but there are many positives and I try and come back each year. I always look forward to my visits and enjoy the hospitality and the service of hard-working and courteous staff.

Trying not to sound too pompous, I have travelled widely and stayed in my share of 5* hotels and know what to expect from them. The Livermead House offers something different. It is quirky and rejoices in being from a different age. Keep it up Mr Rew and colleagues and good luck with the improvements you are planning. Hopefully, I will see you next year.

I arrived on a coach tour and we were greeted personally by the Manager and it was obvious from that moment that this hotel is geared to giving coach parties a really good experience, tea and biscuits were waiting for us in the lounge, while our cases were taken to our rooms. The dining room is impressive with chandeliers, heavy drapes and gilt framed mirrors, the four course dinner is silver service and there was a choice of six dishes for most of them, There were fresh flowers on the tables, and the staff were courteous, friendly and took a pride in their appearance. On the downside the fish was generally over cooked, and don't sit too near the piano as the pianist is a bit heavy handed. After dinner coffee is served in the spacious lounge which has beautiful sea views.
As some of your reviewers have noted, the bedrooms could be a bit more up to date, but they are comfortable, and the rates are very reasonable. I would rather stay in this friendly ambience than an impersonal chain hotel

Stayed for one night after attending a function at the hotel. The service from begining to end was exceptional.
Polite, friendly and helpful.
Try sitting in the bar with a drink looking out over the sea. I recommend it!
Another thing, lots of space between tables, in both the bar/lounge and the dining room.
In so many places the tables are packed together and it creates tension. It was a pleasure being able to drink and eat without being packed in.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. You wont want to leave your room!

I have just looked at some of the other reviews of this hotel and can only conclude that the positive reviewers must have been either been on drugs or drunk. This hotel is probably amongst the worst I have ever stayed in. The beds are ancient lumpy and way to soft. The noise from the traffic is so loud during the night that even if you could sleep in your lumpy bed you had no chance with the road noise. The manager is pompous who does not listen to complaints. The food is mediocre the hotel "pretends" that it has a high class restaurant. That is a joke the food is tasteless and the staff pretty useless. They go around in tails and morning suits protensious rubbish. Avoid this hotel at all costs it is the worst hotel in the south west.

Our second visit to the Livermead just as enjoyable, public rooms decor beautiful but the bedrooms still shabby, clean sheets , but bed covers seen better days our family room was large only a small opening for large window so ventilation was poor and overheated we turned off the radiator but the large pipe running through to the next bedroom was scalding hot and and we could not do anything about it,The staff were lovely so polite and helpful and the food was excellent we shall go back again in the summer especially to swim in their lovely pool.

Room Tip: sea view noisey test your mattress before you accept that room
