This was the third time that we have stayed at the somerville and it did not disappoint. We were given the Somerville Suite and it was a delight. The room was very clean and comfortable perhaps a little chilly on arrival, which was soon remedied by the thoughfull and efficient electric heater.

The little touches are noticed by people like us that stay away alot and we have stayed her over the last 18 months and the standard has not declined but improved.

Breakfast was a great joy, so much choice but of great quality, too much to eat!!

The only suggestion i would make would be that they provided evening meals, lite bites or snacks. I understand that there are alot of fine eateries nearby, but i think with their eye on quality and excellence they would make a great success.

we can thoroughly reccomend the somerville and look forward to going again.

Our stay at The Somerville was faultless and the owners obviously work hard to exceed expectations on all levels. The Somerville suite was very plush, lovely bedding/furnishings, 3 televisions with one in the bedroom, one in the lounge area and to my husbands delight one to be watched in the bath! Extra little touches made all the difference: fresh milk, cookies, sweets in the room, nice toiletries and ice cubes at the ready. At breakfast there was an extensive range of fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, juices and even champagne, followed by a lovely selection of cooked options - I went for the full english and was not dissapointed! We would definitely go back and don't hesitate to recommend...

Room Tip: Loved the Sommerville Suite!

This is an amazing little B&B which oozes character. We stayed here for two rainy nights in June but loved every minute. From the luxurious rooms and the attentiveness of the owners, to the fantastic choice at breakfast, everything about this hotel deserves its 5 star classification. We can highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a short break in Torquay, or for a long term base when looking to explore more of this part of the UK. Very pleased with everything the Somerville and its staff had to offer.

Best bits were: The breakfast, the cookies, the room quality, bathrobes, cafetiere, the dogs, the owners and the decor.

Hotel is located an easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, pub, etc.
Friendly reception by hotel staff. Room was comfortable with all the necessities.
Breakfast was excellent.
This hotel has a B & B feeling and atmosphere rather than being listed as a hotel.
Would definitely stay here again.

Welcomed by Grant who gave us lots of information about the hotel amenities and best places to visit and dine. We stayed in the Somerville Suite for 2 nights which was situated on the first floor and contained a bedroom and sitting room with an ensuite bath with separate shower cubicle. There were 2 large double glazed windows which unfortunately overlooked the car park at the rear with the Babbacombe Road running along the side but this did not disturb our sleep at all. The bathroom was contemporary, fully tiled and stocked with every lotion and potion you may require and pure decadence, a TV on the wall. The only minor downside was the hot water taps were very very slow in both the bath and sink and it took about 15 minutes to fill the bath but Grant did warn us. There were beautiful large white fluffy towels and plenty of them. The sitting room contained a two seater sofa and armchair, a stereo, a chest of drawers, another TV and tea/coffee making facilities. The large bedroom had a built in wardrobe a 5' bed with gorgeous soft pillows and duvet and yet another TV and a speaker dock with radio. Incidentals included an ironing board and iron, hair dryer and sweeties on your bedside table - yum yum. The room contained a guests guide with information about the hotel and places to dine or avoid with write ups giving the owners views which we found most useful. You could also help yourself to fresh milk and cakes in the hallway downstairs. We took Champagne and beer so it would have been nice to have had a fridge to keep them chilled, however the filled ice bucket came in useful instead. I believe the internet was available but I was unable to pick up a provider in our room. On the plus side my husband was given a bottle of wine to help celebrate his birthday. The breakfast room was light and airy overlooking the front drive and the breakfasts were amazing, so much choice from cereals and fresh or dried fruit, yoghurt, juices and a huge choice of hot food including porridge and lovely fresh bread toast and local preserves which you were also able to purchase. The staff were friendly and effecient. There was also a bar which opened in the evening but we did not take advantage of this. Overall the general ambience is slightly cluttered with lots of heavy furniture and soft furnishings with rich colours and tassles with lots of mirrors with heavy gold frames, not to our liking but this did not detract from our enjoyment of this very luxurious guest accommodation.

This is the second time we've stayed at the Somerville and this time was as good as the last. The rooms are a little bit of luxury with great attention to detail and the breakfasts are delicious.
