“One of the best”
Reviewed 12 April 2010

I've been working on a project in Torquay on and off since June 2008. I ran across Grant and Adam's hotel purely by searching TripAdvisor. I've stayed there at least 10-15 times over the past 2 years, and its simply one of the best places I've stayed at.

My job takes me away most weeks 3-4 days a week, and so I see a LOT of hotels. With out a doubt, the Somerville is my favourite by far, mainly down to Grant and Adam. Its like going to stay with friends, rather than in a hotel.

The rooms are very good sized, the amenities are great (cheers for adding WiFi last year which has really helped me with my work), the location is so central to the main eating and night-life area its not funny, and yet its one of the most quiet and peaceful places I've ever stayed in

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Torquay, since its simply one of the best out there in the UK

Ideally located, close to the centre of Torquay. What makes this hotel so different is that the staff really seem to care and go out of their way to help you, whether it be recoomending places to visit or ensuring that you have everything that you need to enjoy your stay.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel. We will be visiting again!

We stayed at The Somerville, a boutique establishment with excellent attention to detail.

Upon arrival we were upgraded to the Somerville Suite which was very spacious, with luxurious furnishings, and the flat screen TV located above the roll top bath was a big win for my husband!

A real gem in an ideal location, great parking and an amazing breakfast, well worth a visit....

Probably the best place I have ever stayed, my advice to the reader is to book at the Somerville and not waste precious time looking for alternative accomodation in Torquay!

From the moment that we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and relaxed. The room was beautifully decorated with welcome individual touches such as paintings by Adam's mother. Fresh milk and cookies were on hand and the mini eggs by the bed were soon eaten, to be refreshed the next day! Breakfast was served in a beautifully light room and fresh and dried fruit, yogurt, croissants, cereal, toast and a full cooked breakfast were all available. Many thanks to Adam and his team for making our stay so enjoyable. We will be back!

Although the room we had was small and rather too much of the baroque we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Asam the host was charming and very helpful and made us feel immediately at home.

I would like to thank the guest for such a kind review but just wanted to pick up on one point. Assessments of the size of rooms can be very subjective and what might seem perfectly reasonable to one guest might not seem adequate to another. For this reason we do have the size of rooms available to guests at the point of booking. This guest's room was 19.1 square meters excluding the ensuite. We do have smaller as well as larger rooms. Our biggest suite is 54 square meters plus outside terrace. As you would expect larger rooms and suites are more expensive than smaller rooms.

We hope that having the sizes of rooms available will enable guests to make the right choice when they book .

from the moment we arrived (which was quite late due to traffic delays) we felt welcomed and were given a 'grand tour' and everything was explained to us. the attention to detail was as good as any 5* hotel we have stayed in (selection of beverages, toiletries in the bathroom shoe horns & clothes brushes to name just a few)
breakfast was a pleasure, the food was first class and the service friendly but not intrusive. a complete pleasure and now our first choice when we are next in the area.
