“Wouldn't Return”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2014

We stayed at this hotel with a KGB voucher. The proprietor was a very friendly and helpful person but I definitely wouldn't pay full price to stay. The hotel is in need of serious redecoration to start with. Our room was very tiny but perfectly clean. The room did, however, need redecorating as the wallpaper was coming off the walls and there was a very dirty line around the room where I assume a border had previously been.

The bathroom was very small but adequate. It did not have any heating in or an extractor fan which made the room very cold and all fitments had become rusty. There was liquid soap and shower gel for guests to use which was a very nice touch. I would recommend that the hotel provide larger towels in the bathroom as I don't find a small bath towel adequate, especially when the room is so cold and you want to wrap yourself up when you come out of the shower.

I wouldn't recommend eating in the restaurant. When we checked in we were asked to chose our meal straight away as the hotel was very busy and this would help the kitchen staff. We did this but, when we went down for dinner, there was only one other table with diners on. The room where we ate our meals was quite grotty. There was even a vacuum and cleaning equipment in the room. The food was extremely basic (I wouldn't want to pay the prices which were advertised on the blackboard). I had to return mine as it was cold too. We did not enjoy the food at all. We didn't sample the breakfasts so I cannot comment on the quality.

I was extremely pleased that the centre of town was only a 5 minute walk away so we could enjoy an evening out and did not have to stay in the hotel.

had a very pleasant 2 night stay with one evening meal & a delicious breakfast each morning. Room was clean & on initial entry ok but small details spoilt it - no valance sheet & little simple things that had not been finished when decorating. The evening meal was fine except for the fact that we checked in 7pm & were told we had to eat by 8pm! looked a bit like a work in progress as there were loads of new mattresses in the hotel foyer. Was fine on a cheap deal but not sure if I would pay full price

Just had two nights at The Yardley Manor and it was lovely. The landlady Jackie and her family were really friendly and welcoming and also the locals in The Griffin Bar which is part of the hotel. The room was spotless and very comfortable, Had a really great nights sleep and then went down to fab breakfast. The food in the bar was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend and we will be going back. Thanks jackie!!

Spent two nights at this hotel with a KGB deal and it was excellent value for money.
We were upgraded to a sea view room, it was lovely and clean, warm and comfortable.
We ate at the hotel the first night and have no complaints about the meal which was plentiful.
Breakfasts were also plentiful.
It was a comparatively short distance to the town and front.
Free Wifi.
I would say there is still more work to be done at the hotel but would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The sea view room was really good.

3 of us spent a night here and wish it had been longer. On arrival, we rang the bell, were greeted in a few seconds and were told we had been upgraded to a bigger room. Great start. We were told where the amenities were and given recommendations on restaurants to eat in at night. Lovely clean rooms with excellent facilities and all freshly decorated. We were made to feel so welcome by both the family and the locals in the pub that we went out to eat in the evening and then went back to the pub instead of going into town as we'd originally planned and had an absolutely brilliant night. People should understand that refurbishment takes time, especially if you're open virtually all year, but from what we saw they're doing a great job. Nice to see Steve & the family have noted peoples comments and are acting on them - fresh tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, top ups of coffee, thick slices of bacon and toast made for you at breakfast. The waitress was helpful and friendly but not in your face. All in all, you'd struggle to get better value for money anywhere. We're having a problem understanding some of the negative comments that have been put on here, but, having worked in the hotel business for many years, I know how rude guests can be! We wish the family all the success in the world with this venture and good luck with the new arrival later this month. We plan to carry out our threat of returning and Paula promises not to wash her hands in anything other than liquid soap! You have been warned!

Most of the communal areas of this hotel are in need of refurbishment, our room however was recently decorated and modernised. Great sea view which we did not expect. A warm welcome even though the temperature in Torquay was not balmy, and very accommodating to us with the menu as one of us did not eat what was on offer. Breakfast was great as expected and a nice stay.

We stayed at Yardley Manor in September 2013 as part of my stag weekend. Initial contact was made to a friendly chap called Scott. From the off they were extremely accommodating, given that I'm sure the thought of a stag weekend basing themselves at a hotel probably fills the owners with dread!

8 of us stayed at the hotel and all of us had an excellent and comfortable stay. Upon arrival the staff had arranged for some buffet food to be available as we had all travelled 3 hours plus to arrive in Torquay.

Congregating in The Griffin Bar which is situated under the hotel we were greeted by friendly smiling faces.

The rooms were pristine, and mine especially was a very good size. The rooms themselves had everything you could need in them, with en-suite, television and freeview, a kettle with tea, coffee biscuits and milk.

The hotel served a breakfast each morning which was eagerly anticipated and did not disappoint!

The pricing was extremely reasonable and the staff could not do enough! Jackie, Holly and co were brilliant hosts.

Working the length of the country I have stayed in a number of hotels and this far exceeds the standard of even big corporates that I have stayed at.

I cannot wait to return to this character-full hotel next year with my now wife!
