I stayed at the Bancourt recently with a group of people.
It was an organised weekend and I, my husband and our friends, enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were both friendly and courteous, and although the rooms were in need of a spruce up, they were clean and warm.
I have stayed in much more luxurious Hotels in the past so am used to good service and found the Bancourt had this in abundance.
I had a thoroughly good time there and will certainly visit again next year!

Recently returned from a long weekend with a group of 70 people. The hotel is very shabby and extremely cold. Some of the group are older and felt the cold more and everyone's room was too cold for comfort. The manager did bring one room a plug in radiator but that was hardly enough. Hot water was also a problem. Most of the staff are pleasant and do a good job but the night porter has a huge problem with attitude. He is very threatening and rude. Bar prices are very expensive and you dont always get the double measure you pay for. The food is average but no more. The owners of the hotel could do with a lesson in good manners as they also are rude and confrontational if you attempt to complain. I would never stay there again and never reccommend it.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms in this shabby hotel.

My family and I stayed at the Bancourt Hotel over the new year first time there. We would certainly stay again, had a fantastic time. The food was nice and the entertainment was very enjoyable through the day and evening. The staff went out of there way to be friendly and helpful.

We had a family room, separate bedroom with bunk beds which my 7 year old son thought was absolutely great. The price of the drinks in the bar are no more expensive than at my local pub back home in Leeds.

I would recommend this Hotel to anyone wanting an enjoyable holiday in Torquey.

We also found the owners Kim and Alan very welcoming and approachable. I was sat up a couple of nights with Alan one of the owners till the early hours chatting and sampling his collection of Malt Whiskeys.

The only regret we have about the Bancourt Hotel is that this was our first stay and I wish we had have spent more time there.

Stayed at the Bancourt twice in the last 3 years the last time being Oct 11.
The first time was with a coach holiday group, the 2nd with a re-union group.
Cannot grumble over too much I would be being petty. The food is much better than average and the staff are very good at their job, nothing is too much trouble.
The bedroom we had was on the back ground floor, plenty of floor space comfortable beds, with clean towels each day, kept clean and warm during our stay.
The entertainment was very good each evening and the bars are well stocked with plenty of choice. My only gripe is that the entrance to the desk could do with a make over and so to could the flooring in the gents down stairs.
It's a family run hotel and they try hard with the staff to give you a pleasant stay.
Nice big Garden at the back and a nice small swimming pool, all in all excellent value for money, would not hestate to use again.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view.

We were part of a coach trip so stayed for 4 nights from the 24th of October and left on 29th of October , on arrival we were welcomed by a member of staff and informed of the daily entertainment , and what the hotel had to offer , which included the use of the heated indoor swimming pool for a small fee, the rooms have a television , complete with remote control ,which you leave a deposit of £10 . this is returned to you when you hand back the remote on departure , ( which we all agree is a good idea as it ' stops the remote going walk about '' There are tea & coffee making facilities in the room
( very generous amount of tea /coffee /milk and sugars , ) there is a hair dryer in the room also a trouser press should you need one , the food was plentiful and cooked food was always freshly served my husband requested a little more gravy and there was no hesitation it was brought out straight away . , the staff were all very friendly and polite and happy to help . the hotel was all clean and tidy , rooms also clean and tidy ,bathroom with bath and overhead shower all clean and working plenty of hot water , smoke alarms fitted and working well .there is also a lift so no need to climb the stairs , ( only 2 short flights anyway ) The hotel is better suited for adults and is in a nice location and quiet , the only time we heard traffic is when we went outside and even that was not noisy , We didn't watch any of the evening entertainment as we wanted to visit places in and around Torquay , we walked to the sea front which at a steady pace takes about 15 minutes , ( you could walk it in 10 if you wanted to walk faster !! ) there is a petrol station just 2 minutes away if you need a newspaper or extra snack , also a Spar shop about 7 minutes walk , on the other hand there is an Asda superstore about 25 minutes walk up hill or 7 minutes by Taxi which costs just £3,60p we walked up but got the taxi back .. Totnes station is just 10 minutes walk uphill , also buses which go to Paignton , and other places .we walked to the sea front to catch the bus into Paignton just 12 minutes away . Torquay Harbour and town centre ( plenty of shops ) nice harbour and the living sea are all within walking distance , it takes about 40 minutes walking from the hotel ( down hill ) the scenery is beautiful , our main waitress during our stay was Jessie , a very helpful and curtious young lady who no doubt enjoys her work , If we go back to Torquay we would be very happy to stay at this hotel again as I believe most of our group would agree ,we were in room 41 , it was on the 2nd floor ( at back/side ) would have preferred front room but quite happy with the one we had . Our trip included the Eden Project , Dartmoor , Buckfast Abbey , The Marbles which were all very interesting ,
