“Very poor experience”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Review on behalf of my grandparents. Their words:

Visited on a coach holiday. The hotel really skimped on every little thing they could. They didn't give tea or coffee with/after dinner. They charged for extra milk cartons if you wanted a drink in your room. The dinner service was slow. They couldn't cope with the number of customers. There was only one toaster at breakfast so there was a long queue to make your own toast.

We asked for a walk in shower as one of us is unsteady on our feet. We were given one but there were no handrails so it was not possible to use without assistance. There was no hot water from the taps in the bathroom (though the shower was hot).

They hired out the lounge on our final night so there was nowhere to sit except in the rooms. Also, the children from the party were playing very loudly quite late, just outside below the rooms, and no one in the hotel did anything about it.

It was also misleadingly advertised (though this may have been the coach company's fault). It was advertised as having a pool but it was out of use, which was a big disappointment for our young grand-daughter. It was also advertised as a 10-15 minute flat walk to the front, whereas in was actually 15 minutes from the sea (sloped downwards, so up on the way back), but then another 15 minute walk around the bay to the front proper. There was a bus that went to the front, but the bus stop was a 10 minute walk up a steep hill.

Positive: the entertainment was ok. Hotel staff member Steve was helpful and very friendly.

We wouldn't return.

I am sorry that the hotel did not live up to your Grandparents expectations. As we are a hotel, having a walk in shower does not necessarily mean that there will be handrails, we do not advertise having disabled rooms. If the problem with the hot water had been mentioned during their stay, we could have rectified the issue. We have two lounge/bars at the hotel, so if there was a party, then the other lounge would still have been available for residents, if they had missed the signs displayed and asked at reception, then this would have been explained. All of our coach companies have been made aware that the pool is closed and apologise if this information hadn’t been passed on. I will pass your comments on to Steve.

Did Mon-Fri with national coach holidays my friend and myself. We had a family room which was very clean, comfortable and spacious. The food was good and a varied menu although we didnt like the meal times. Breakfast 8.15-8.45 Dinner 7.00-7.30. Woo betide you if you was late.

Entertainment Tues Wed & Thurs was passible. I thought the prices of drinks in the bar were expensive a bottle of house wine £12.95 plus £2 for a pint of soda water!

The swimming pool still not fixed has been out of order since May.

It was a 20minute walk to the town centre with a hill.
Would go again though.

Room Tip: we was in 130 overlooking the front of the hotel. Could be a little noisey

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at the Bancourt. Unfortunately we had a major maintenance problem with the swimming pool which has taken longer than anticipated to repair. We're glad you enjoyed you stay and would return.

Breakfast was at 9 till 9.30 (sat and sun 8.15 to 8.45 weekdays ).far to early and to short a time . staff though were very helpfull . my other son ordered a cake for his brother which they did beautifully. Think the owners were trying to do their best but it does need updating .
Hotel is on a fairly busy road and even with the windows shut was very noisy .no double glazing . breakfast was not quite the HARTY one advertised on their web site . Could have done with more on the plate .
long walk into town although thereis a bus stop just outside,

Thank you for taking time to review us on Tripadvisor. We're glad you were happy with some aspects of your stay and sorry that the hotel did not meet all of your expectations. As for not having air conditioning in the rooms, we could have provided you with a fan for the duration of your stay if you felt it was too warm in the room, should you have asked at Reception. We hope that this does not put you off returning to us and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

was reading reviews about this Hotel before we went &didn't know what to expect. We have just returned after our few days on aDavid Urquhart tour & have to say it was a very enjoyable stay. The breakfast was a little sparse but it was well presented & tasty, there was an extensive evening menu to choose from as well as an a la carte selection which carried a small surcharge.the hotel could perhaps need a little freshening up in places but the room was clean & large enough for purpose. The staff were all very pleasant & dining room service was speedy if you did ask for anything it was provided at once, there is a garden to sit in at the rear & indoor pool but this was not open during our stay, entertainment was good on the 2 nights it was on but there was bingo or a quiz each night for those who wanted it.The sea front & Harbour is about a 20 minute walk but it is all flat.So overall a very nice hotel & for the price paid very good value.

Just spent a week at this hotel, not really impressed. The breakfast was a liitle sparse with chef's special each day one day tomatoes, another black pudding, enough said. Twice we were ignored at reception while waiting for our room key. I personally would not stay here again. The best parts were the day trips ( Thankyou Gee-Vee) they were brilliant with a brilliant driver. This hotel is a long way to Torquay if you have a mobility problem.

Room Tip: Room 36 has a four poster bed if you fancy it, but traffic noise is a problem, which is not the hote...

Sorry you were not happy with your stay with us. The full English breakfast each day consists of bacon, sausage, fried bread, beans and egg. Chef puts on an extra each morning and this changes daily. Also there is fruit, cereal, porridge and toast available. Unfortunately the reception staff can be called away from the desk to deal with other guests, so it wouldn't have been that you were ignored, just next for their attention. We hope this doesn't put you off visiting us in the future because there will always be a warm welcome for you.

Stayed here 26th to 30th May 2014 we enjoyed our stay here booked with travelstyle, food was good with a good choice, but please see I haven't give top Mark's because at dinner the only drink was water you had to pay for any other drink but aside from that staff in dining area were very attentive our waitress was SUE she was very efficient made us feel at home Mark 5 for SUE. The bar is well stocked and prices are we think reasonable, entertainment on three nights was good and two games of bingo every night. Room we were in 33 was was good with comfortable bed nice bathroom but there is some traffic noise but it didn't bother us after a couple of drinks we would use this hotel again so if you have read some bad reviews go and MAKE YOUR OWN MIND UP,WELL DONE BANCOURT TEAM.

Just come home after staying at the bancourt for 4 nights with national holidays ,I have to say myself husband and two children had a lovely time ,we had evening meals with our package and I can say we was spoilt for choice every night the staff where very efficient and attended to all our needs at evening dinner and breakfast ,the hotel entertainment was spot on with us having two young children they where kept entertained as well ,drinks where a tad pricey but hey ho we wasn't there to get wrecked ,shame the pool wasn't working ,not that we needed to as there was a leisure centre close by its located about 20 walk from the sea but pleasant enough to do in nice weather ,the family room I was pleased with because usually you get stuck in some pokie room but not here we had an inter connecting family room with bunk beds for the kids a double and another single in the main bedroom and a very spacious bath room with bath and shower I would recommend this hotel to family's well worth it x thanks to the bancourt owners and staff x
