“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2010

I found this hotel very clean and bright. The owner was a very good Host. Nothing was too much, At breakfast you could order a very decent full english or have what you wanted.
Shower ensuite was excellent, plenty of hot water.
Keep up the good work Brian and Paul you offer excellent service.

Me and my husband have just come home from this hotel in Torquay where we stayed for our first wedding anniversary (we are 26 & 28). The hotel itself was fantastic. Brian (the owner) and Paul are so very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We paid £118 for 2 nights from Sun -Tues. Check in was easy and Paul offered numerous times to carry our suitcase, he showed us to our room (room 9) which was right on the top floor (we are quite unfit so we got our yearly excercise in) and it was lovely, spacious and bright with a comfy, super king size bed. Room was clean and was cleaned the next day aswel...clean sheets, towels etc. View wasn't the best but you could see abit of the sea, it was pleasant enough (when we booked over the phone we asked for a sea view and was told you could see abit of the sea but it's not the best view anyway so atleast we knew not too expect a great view)
Breakfast was very nice, we had toast, cereal, fruit and juice to have as much as we wanted and then we had a full English cooked by Paul which was very nice!
The hotel is situated up abit of a hill and there are steps leading to the hotel but not many...for the price we payed we certainly got a great hotel and would definately recommend this to anyone, we will certainly go back if/when we next visit Torquay again.

i chose this hotel after reading glowing reviews but i feel like i visited a different hotel. the first problem was the fact it was up a hill which it doesnt state in the add, i have ms and cant walk too well so i struggled up the hill to be then confronted by steep steps up to the hotel, i was greeted by a man who didn't introduce himself and he then said he would show me to my room, i had a case and a bag which he didnt offer to carry either so i struggled up three flights of stairs to my sea view single room. yes you could see the sea between the chimney pots and trees and if you looked over the very delapitated building next door. the room was clean but the bed was very uncomfortable and the hairdryer didn't work..a plus was the breakfast which there was plenty of choice and a very nice cooked breakfast of whatever you wanted. i did feel slightly uncomfortable at breakfast as there the other guests all seemed to be men i never saw a woman the whole time i was there. the hotel was quiet at night considering it's near a road the only noise was the owners dog which barked when you were on the stairs and did bark one night.

This is a lovely, friendly B&B to stay in. Brain and Paul are excellent hosts! We would definitely recommend room 4......with a large kingsize/twin beds, balcony, clean decor and superb en-suite. Just a couple of teeny tiny points are that we would like a coat hook and clock in the room...but these are minor things! We found our experience as a whole most enjoyable.

Compared to other Torquay B&Bs, the Hotel Hudson really stood out. The quality of the décor and surroundings was worthy of a far more expensive hotel and everything was immaculately clean. The beds were also very comfortable and there was a TV (with the Freeview channels) and DVD player in my room.

The hosts were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. They clearly took great pride in their hotel. The breakfast selection was varied with both continental and full English available, all of which was of an extremely high standard.

The location of the hotel was ideal as it was 2 minutes' walk from the harbour and very close to the shops and town centre, which had plenty going on in the way of restaurants and bars. There was space to park the car at the back of the hotel and I didn't need to take the car anywhere once arrived as the hotel was right in the centre of Torquay so everything was within walking distance.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

Stayed at the Hudson for 1 night in August. The building and hosts are very pleasant, however everything seems slightly inflexible. They called me at 5.30pmquestioning our arrival time. Once we had arrived we were advised that there is a 30 minute slot (8.30 - 9.00am) for beakfast. All in all it was ok, clean and tidy.... but we were left feeling that we may have inconvenienced them somewhat!
