“Beware: Check your booking confirmation”

I made a telephone booking with the manager at an extremely good rate. Didn't notice on the confirmation that it had been written as per person rather than per room. (Had booked 2 rooms for 3 people). Paid the higher rate but my protests were ignored - as was my letter sent afterwards.
Food is quite good - particularly the breakfasts. Rooms we were given were tired and unco-ordinated!
Putting value as terrible because of our experience - at the agreed rate it would have been good.

This is our second time back at the balmoral, and it was just as good as we remember, i was shocked to see one review that said it was a retirement home? we are in our 30's and definatly dont consider ourselves "retired". Yes the hotel is in a quiet location but i would not want anything other then that!. To us its ideal being such a short way from town but without the traffic. We had a relaxing three nights there and met some great people (as usual), enjoyed great food and very clean accomodation. All at a price we could not have got for just bed and breakfast only four doors away. The one gripe was we could only stay the three nights and not four as they were fully booked. !

The hotel is in a quiet location with Meadfoot Beach a matter of yards away. The car park was adequate at the time of our visit, but the hotel was hardly full, so we can't say how it would be when they're really busy. Having seen other reviews, we asked for a larger room...not sure whether we got one or not, but it had a great view of the extensive gardens with the sea beyond, and we were happy! The bedroom wasn't overly spacious, the furniture was partly broken, mismatched and uninspiring, the decor was tired and shabby (faded and peeling wallpaper, chips in the paintwork, some brackets on the wall behind the bed, for example, with no apparent use) and the carpet and skirting board could have done with a good vacuuming. The en-suite was decidedly poky, the light over the sink didn't work at all and we had difficulty turning off the cold tap. However, downstairs was a different story; the lounge, bar and dining rooms looked newly-decorated and well maintained, the seating was comfortable and the staff were smiley, friendly and helpful. The food was very good - not adventurous, but well cooked and presented, with a good choice for vegetarians as well as meat-eaters. We would probably go back again on the strength of the friendly staff and good food - but maybe hope they do something about the rooms before then?!

My husband and I have just returned from a trip here and it was great! The staff were friendly, couldn't do enough for you and the food was absolutely fantastic! The hotel should be more like a 4 star than a 2. Great Hotel!

My wife and i had a lovely six days at this small Torquay hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and luckily we had excellent weather which you can never judge with holidaying in the UK. We were surprised at the amount of guests which were booked in, we talked with some guests who seemed to come regulaly it turned out they lived only 15 miles from us?. There are some very good walks central to the hotels location, and stunning scenery. The gardens with outside seating area was plesant with sea peeks over meadfoot (weather permitting of course). The room size was perfectly adequate although not huge - (we could have “upgraded”) but well fitted and extremely clean. Staff in restaurant where attentive nothing was too much trouble. The attitude of staff especially was exemplary and was a significant part of our enjoyment at the Balmoral. Not only was the food excellent but on every occasion the dishes where hot and everything looked fresh and appetizing. If we do visit Torquay once more there is only one place we would like to stay.

Just arrived back from a visit with friends to the balmoral hotel, we were warmly greeted and showed up to our room which was room 15 & 16. Was overlooking road side which was we though it would be noisy but the road is so quiet and peaceful at night. We paid a little extra for a larger room with bath and shower and boy was it big and very clean. I see there ware complaints about some small rooms Could not fault these at all. There was plenty of parking too wich was nice seeing as the last hotel we stayed in in torquay did not have much space. The location is perfect for us not being far into town but without the hustle and busle of young men and women enjoying their friday night on the tiles. Service in the resturant was fantastic and food was piping hot and served quickly and efficantly with great choice on menu, and perfectly cooked, with friendy staff and a plentiful wine list , prices werent robbery either. We got a a special deal at £39, including evening dinner each a night which we thought was fantactic value for money, cosidering some places charge that for b&b Will definalty be comming back to torquay and the balmoral. We had a fantasic time. I can reccomend this hotel, well done balmoral and staff

Room Tip: Pay extra for a larger room with bath and shower

Felt like i had gone back in time to my childhood with the bedroom decor and carpeted bathroom floor!
Every thing was clean and tidy, food was good the first evening but poor the second, the views were stunning and the gardens were beautifully kept, a bit more attention to detail
needed.
Torguay how can they call this part of the Devon Riviera, the Streets are discusting, I can feel sorry that a lot of shops have closed ,but that does not excuse the Council neglect more effort is needed if they want to continue having holiday makers I definately would not recommend this area. Darmouth is worth a visit and the gold trip ( bus, boat and steam train is brilliant.
