We went with friends for a 4 day midweek break, everything that was promised was delivered, Food excellent, staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, great location and short walk to the sea, easy parking as well as a great bus service into the town to save parking
Will be back soon

we made a last minute booking at the Balmoral and where so pleased to get a ground floor superior room as we had requested. The photos made the rooms and gardens look beautiful and we were really looking forward to our six night break. All we can say is DONT GO THERE. The bedroom which looked out onto the front car park greeted us with a nasty smell obviously sprayed with room fresh spray. The carpet was dirty, the bed was very hard and the bathroom was carpeted , not considered very hygenic these days, also the bath mat by the shower was not newly washed. We soon realised that we could not stay in this room and were offered another room upstairs which we could not even look at because of mobility problems. We were the told that they would clean the carpet and get us a different mattress, but this was not acceptable to us. We may have lost our £50 deposit but we would definately nort have paid one penny more, we were glad to leave and managed to get another hotel for the night.

An excellent hotel, as it was a special occasion, we went for a sea view room, it was lovely, I had a surprise of chocolates, flowers and champagne in which was waiting in our room, the room was spacious with a on suite bathroom, the staff was fansatic nothing was to much trouble and we were not rushed with a wonderful meal we had in the evening, we had coffee in the lovely maintained garden, in which was peaceful and relaxing, breakfast was fansatic with plenty of choices for everyone including a full English if required. Would deffinedently recommend this hotel to all my friends and would deffinedently come again

Room Tip: Sea view is lovely

We stayed for a week in July.
We had room 16 which was a decent size and, if you crane your neck, has a sea view. Of course, the sea view is just a glimpse of water through the trees - as is clear from the photos on the hotel website.
The room and bed were comfortable. The bathroom could do with a bit of an update but was functional.
Evening meals were very good - proper food with a reasonable choice each evening.
Breakfast was a bit repetitive over a week - perhaps a couple of pastries once or twice a week would be a nice change.
Service was good throughout our stay.
The garden was a little sun-trap during the week we stayed - perfect to relax in the afternoons.
Location was handy for the beach - an easy 5 minute walk.
I also did the 15 minute walk into Torquay a few times and suspect that it would not be suitable for anyone unable to manage hills or steps. There is, however, a bus stop right outside the hotel.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay and I would definitely go back.

We booked our stay as a last minute thing having had a stressful year and this hotel proved the perfect antidote! It is in quiet location and very close to the beach and town centre. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was good quality and plentiful. The room was clean and tidy, though in need of some updating. Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to our friends and family, and return ourselves in the future!

We stayed here for a couple of nights in August. Location is good right next to Meadfoot Beach. The staff were friendly but service standards weren't great. Various breakfast options, including cooked, were fine but of really basic quality. The room itself was cosy (as described) but in need of some updating and DIY. Bed was creaky and we could hear other guests through the walls and in the halls. The window was filthy and the sea view was actually of the (perfectly nice) garden with only a glimpse of the sea through the trees. Communal lounge was nice enough but decor in other areas was showing its age. The communal toilets downstairs are desperately in need of a total refurb. Not a bad place but hard to recommend.

In general the hotel is in real need of a total refurb,
The rooms on the internet page for the hotel Look really good but in reality they are very poor, the bathrooms are stuck in the 70's,beds and furniture are also very worn and in need of renewal.
Breakfast,,,! The three or four staff that try their best to run and organise breakfast are really pushed to do this, trying to seat us at a table seemed a real effort and our order for a cooked breakfast just seemed to confuse them.
Service was very poor and disorganised.
On the plus side our room was clean and the hotel is in a good location.

Room Tip: Do not spend the extra on the up graded rooms.
