Upon arrival at the Elmdene hotel, both Andy and Carol gave us a warm welcome as well as a pot of coffee and choccy biscuits. The room was to a very high standered and look ed the same as the pictures found on the web site. The complementary fudge and shortbread was a nice touch. The bed is very comfortable with crisp clean white linnen, the pillows were the best we've ever slept on, and infact they were so comfortable Carol told us where they were from and we purchased some for our home. The ensuite is spacious and very clean with complamentary toiletries and big soft white bath sheets. The breakfast is excellent with plenty of choice. Well done Andy and Carol on the best hotel in Torquay.

We have just got back from a 3 night stay at the Elmdene. I can't recommend this hotel enough. From the minute we arrived we felt welcomed. Carol and Andy are great people who can't do enough for the people staying at their hotel. The breakfasts have great variety and are extremely tasty! The location is perfect, whether you get the train to Torquay and walk the 5 minutes or whether you drive this hotel is central to everything. We are already talking about our next trip back!

The Elmdene is a fantastic hotel. Very reasonable prices and hosts Carol and Andy will make sure you are comfortable and provide an excellent breakfast with a good choice for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Bar meals are available in the evening including baked potatoes and taosted sanwiches as well as fish and chips and chicken curry and two or three other dishes and a choice of sweets. The location for us was fine, about a 10min walk from the sea and very little traffic at night, so no noise for my light sleeping wife. The hotel is very clean and well decorated instead of a super looking reception and rooms in need of decoration which is something I have found in many hotels of varying sizes and prices.
The rooms also had plenty of toiletries and a range of teas and coffees as well as bottled water and a small fridge.
My mother and sister had a room on the first floor which again was very nicely decorated, bigger than ours but it was a slightly higher rate. Our room was on the second floor, which is in the roof but again a super room with plenty of little corners to put suitases etc.
All in all a very good hotel made even better by the friendliness and help from Carol and Andy. This was a difficult week for Andy as Birmingham were relegated on the second day of our visit but he sill remained cheerfull!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to be of a simular standard

I stayed at this hotel about 3years ago and when I decided that I wanted to return to Torquay for another holiday, I would not have dreamed of going to any other establishment. I had stayed in Room 3 on the previous visit and asked for the same again. Imagine my surprise when I arrived to find that the room had been extended and now included an additional small room set up as a lounge, complete with leather settee, another TV, fridge, tea/coffee facility. The Elmdene is situated only a few minutes walk from the Railway Station and there is a bus stop only about 50 yards from the front door. The breakfast was a real dream with everything cooked to order. Carol and Andy are two wonderful people and are ideally suited to being in the trade. Friendly, helpful, informative although Andy does need to find another football team to support - on both of my visits, Birmingham City has been relegated. My partner ( we are both in our eighties) has declared to everyone that this was the best hotel she has ever stayed in and we both have said that, God willing, we want to return next year.

Room Tip: Ask for the superior room - it really is.

We arrived early, but still received a really warm welcome and drinks provided.
Andy carried out cases to our rooms - they were so clean and well decorated with first class furnishings, hotel welcome book in the room was well informative - with good selection of restuarants recommends,
We went away to celebrate my dads 70th birthday and in his room was a bottle of bubbly & a card - which was so nice.
Good selection at breakfast - and all presented well.
Andy & Carol are great hosts, really make you feel relaxed.

We had a 5 night stay at end of April which was great. Our room was spotlessly clean, lovely and comfortable. The Hotel is very accessible for buses, trains or walking to the beach. Its in a quiet location and has a car park. It was the little extra touches that made it perfect and Carol and Andy were perfect hosts, there for a chat if you wanted to, but in obstrusive if you did'nt. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of it and choice was superb. If you are thinking of visiting Torquay we would strongly recommend Elmdene for your stay - we shall definately be returning.
