Beautiful place to stay for exploring this part of Devon. Torquay itself not quite our cup of tea but a good place to stay for exploring the coast.

We were greeted warmly upon arrival and provided with tea, biscuits and local fudge (much needed when 7 months pregnant and been in the car for four and a half hours). We stayed in the superior room which was wonderful and the whole place was absolutely spotless.

Breakfast superb.

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Rebecca and Simon

Room Tip: We stayed in the superior room but I imagine all the other rooms were just as lovely and clean.

Stayed for a week at the Elmdene after recommendations on trip advisor, and we weren't disappointed. Andy and Carol were very pleasant and the room (room 5) was excellent, with lots of nice trimmings (e.g. filtered water and a milk jug in the fridge, wine glasses, complimentary fudge!) and a nice view.

With a 5 minute walk from the train station, the B&B was convenient for trips further afield. Local restaurant recommendations were useful and we certainly ate well during our stay! Breakfasts were excellent, with good local produce. A nice stay.

Just like everyone else I give the Elmdene 5 stars.

One thing, however, I would call this place a B and B, possibly a guesthouse, but not a hotel.

I was quite satisfied with Room 4 which was well-appointed and very large. There is no view even though it has windows on 2 sides. And even though a train runs just a few yards away from the back window it was surprisingly quiet (behind some sort of barrier) and never a bother.

Breakfast was the best I've had in Britain. I could go back just for the scambled eggs and smoked salmon. And we were pleased that on our last day Carol and Andy opened the kitchen an hour early so that we could get on the road back to London a bit sooner.

Don't forget to ask Andy for directions to the Chelston Manor, a proper English pub just a 5 minute walk from the Elmdene.

Stayed at this wonderful Hotel for 3 days in May. We were delighted with the hosts Carol and Andy who were nothing but totally welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. The room (no.1) was divine; very tastefully furnished and decorated and the breakfast was amazing. Without doubt the best Hotel we have ever stayed in and we will be returning! They both thoroughly deserve the plaudits, good comments and awards they have received; they are thoroughly professional. 10 out of 10

We're just back from a weekend at the Elmdene- it certainly lives up to all the good reviews. Good location, a beautiful room and lovely breakfasts. However, what really makes it stand out is the service. You get the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble to make your stay as comfortable as possible, but what's so good is that you don't need to ask for anything extra - they've thought of absolutely everything! All kinds of little touches to make you feel at home, which makes a huge difference.

I recommend this place highly, and would certainly stay there again. I'm not sure how the price compares to others in the area, as the booking was arranged by my boyfriend, but it seemed very reasonable to me particularly when the experience was so good.
