A great place to stay, from the warm welcome you recieve from walking through the door to the brilliant breakfast in the morning, there are no faults with the brandize hotel. The owners make our holidays more than worthwhile, and every minute spent in thier company is great. we highly recomend this as a place to stay

my husband and i needed a quiet, relaxing long weekend break with our 14 year old son and that was exactly what we received from staying at the Brandize. The warm welcome and homely atmosphere that we experienced from the proprietors lowered the stress levels immediately.
Our room was spacious, airy, light and very clean, with cleaning and top ups (eg. toilent roll) every day. The calm attitude of the priproitors was refreshing with no set times for coming and going and meal times being very flexible. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and the bar/ lounge was a relaxing place to sit with a vodka and plenty of books, papers and magazines to read.
Above and beyond the call of duty the proprietors showed my son how to skin and scale fish that he had earlier caught while deep sea fishing, not only that, they stored the fish in their personal freezer until we were due to leave.
We had a fantastic stay and would not go to any other hotel in Torquay again, we will be going back to Brandize again and again!!!

We stayed at The Brandize in early October and were greeted by two very friendly and welcoming hosts.

We were shown to our room which was warm, bright and squeaky clean.

Enjoying the excellent choice of home cooked food whilst being away made a welcome change from usual ‘pub grub’ we have had served to us in other places and the choice at breakfast was superb, even having to pre-order was no problem at all and in this current throw away society it was an extremely good idea.

Overall the whole environment was a delight and the hosts couldn’t do enough to make sure we were comfortable as indeed we were !

We would recommend the Brandize without hesitation to family and friends. It made for exceptional stay and was good value for money.

Thank you to both Ann and Garee for a great stay - we will be back !!

After enjoying a wonderfully relaxing time at a country Hotel in the North of Devon, it was a real culture shock to arrive in a busy seaside resort. We were even more disappointed when we arrived at our Hotel. The "tree-lined approach to the sea" that we had read the Hotel is situated on, is in fact a major busy road that is quite frightening to cross.
The Hotel is described as "Quality Guest Accomodation" and indeed the place is meticulously clean. However, a word of warning to those with sensitive noses, the pungent smell of abundant plug-in air freshners is quite nauseating after about an hour and we found ourselves wondering why this excess was necessary. Also, the notices warning guests about "quality furnishings" gives a less than relaxed feel to the place.
We had booked a discounted break with our Travel Offers Privilege Pass and the deal was for bed, breakfast and evening meal. This sounded like a reasonable offer, and being tempted by the idea of "home cooked food using fresh local produce", and this being served in the "charming licensed dining room", we happily accepted. The "charming licensed dining room" is in fact a converted cellar. Nothing wrong with that, except we found it dingy and oppressive and being the sole diners, we found ourselves wondering if we had made the right choice. While the food was indeed home cooked and of reasonable quality, the choice was limited (two - three options per night) and consisted mainly of casseroles. Everything had to be pre-ordered which is understandable in a small family run business which appears to be manned entirely by the owners. However, we were somewhat perturbed to discover that even breakfast has to be pre-ordered and the request for that has to be on reception by 8pm the night before!! This somewhat regimented regime is further engendered by the abundant notices & requests posted around the place, some of which are obviously aimed at the comfort of guests, but others concerning the many rules and regulations of the premises. In fact, to us, a read of the Guest Information Book had a feel of the Ten Commandments which gave a distinct feeling of unease lest one transgress the rules and regulations and incur the wrath of the owners!
Sadly, this fell far short of the relaxed and carefree break we were hoping for and left us longing for home.
Oh and by the way, read the Terms and Conditions of the Hotel before booking. They read like a legal mandate and are rigidly applied without concern or compromise.

  • Liked — It is clean.
  • Disliked — Very routinised and inflexible.
