My wife and i stayed at the waters edge in Torquay for one night and have to say it was excellent value for money ..Ok its not the most poshest place but if you want that then go and stay in the Grand at £150 per night and have everything perfect .
People who usualy complain about hotels such as this want 5 star rooms for 2 star money ..it never fails to make me laugh .
The hotel is in a fab location with views across the sea and have a pool to which of course is covered up as its now winter.
Its around 3/4 of a mile walk from all the towns main pubs and shops but out far enough not to get any noise at night, my wife and I walked there and back twice in one day and its a lovely stroll along the sea front , a nice way to end the night .
A special mention for Euan or Ewan .. what a helpful guy on reception who went above and beyond to make our stay as nice as possible so cheers mate.

Room Tip: Sea rooms would be fab but unfortunately we didnt get one , but the view would be lovely to wake upt...

The hotel was the worst hotel I have ever been in three continents (Europe, America, Asia).
The hotel is old and dirty. The room was un-cleaned. We found hair in the toilet and in the shower from the previous tenants. We found also crumb on our beds!!! Everything was full of dust and stains.
The washbasin was outside the bathroom!!! (We leave in 2012 not in 1800)
The room had an inclination!!!. What I mean? That the floor was not parallel to the ground but had an inclination about 5%.
The walls are so thin that you can hear everything and you have to be lucky to sleep enough since you can hear every door's opening and closing.
Although that it claims that it has parking , the spaces are not enough. We had to park outside for the night.
I can continue for hours, but I don't want to spend more time on that "hotel"

Room was clean but small, shower was great fairly new, but in a small bathroom.
Good views from bedroom, double glazing misted up.
Polish waiting staff were great and fast serving. Food was ok edible.
Man at reception just grunted most of the time.
I thought of Basil and a comedy series 20 yrs ago.
Very convenient location for walking into town.
I didn`t recognise the photos of bedrooms.
We would certainly go back to Torquay.

We stayed overnight in this hotel over bank holiday weekend. If you want to stay a week, then ask for one of the bigger rooms upstairs. Otherwise the rooms are good for 1-2 night stay. The beds are clean and the breakfast is good including both hot and cold.

we stayed at the Waters Edge for 4 nights 6th Aug-10th. Pleasantly surprised when we
arrived after reading mixed reviews. Decent sized room overlooking Torbay Bay.
The staff were most welcoming especially dining room staff. Food was very good.
All in all excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Always ask for twin beds instead of double for that little extra space.

We stayed at the Waters Edge for 3 nights Friday 3rd August 2012 - Monday 6th August 2012 and after reading some of the reviews on here we were unsure as what to expect. When we walked into the hotel we were pleasantly surprised by what we found the hotel looked clean and the receptionist was friendly and helpfull. We had phoned previous to our stay to ask for a sea view room which we got (if you require one would advise to ask before hand as they didnt have a sea view room for us before we called). We stayed in rm 43 which was a lovely room as you can see from the pictures very clean, bed was comfortable, tea, coffee and sugar topped up every day, the shower was a power shower which was lovely, if you wanted clean towels then you just left them in the shower and new ones were left the next day. We booked to stay as half board the first morning we had breakfast which consisted of cereals, fruit, toast (as much as you want), fruit and fruit juice and you could have a cooked breakfast which you didnt need to pay extra for but if you go independantly you will need to pay extra for a cooked breakfat (£3.00)!!! we only had a main meal once but you have to order what you want for dinner at breakfast time. I had fish which came with a selection of veg and croquet potatoes and my wife ordered roast chicken which when it came out was a leg and also came croquet potatoes which was of average standard but the waitresses were brilliant and very friendly. They still say hotel entertainment in the book that we ordered from which was travel style but when we arrived they no longer have this! The hotel manager was not always a happy chap but bear in mind he had to do everything from reception bar man waiter night porter. The car park is small for about 20 cars and access was tricky to get in and out, so we decided to leave the car there all the time and just get the bus which was cheap and reliable. In the evening we would walk into Torquay which only took 10mins. One night we went to a chinese which we would highly recommend if you go to Paignton was called the Magic Bowl the food was amazing and good value for money. Overall we would reccommend this hotel as for the rating and the cost it is acceptable and we would recommend to others. Dont expect a 5 star hotel if you want this then dont go to 2 star!!

Room Tip: For a sea view room phone and ask before you go.

This is a good value hotel and a good base for touring around OH! it has a wonderful view of the sea too!! The hotel is very well situated for touring round the area. It does have a swimming pool outside but it was all closed up. We would certainly go back as you cannot see all the wonderful places in five days.

Room Tip: well we had a back room, it had a pleasant view but had a train passing by albeit in a cutting so n...
