My husband and i stayed at the Trecarrn Hotel in Torquay for five days, received a very warm welcome reception from staff. Our room was on the first floor, prior to booking we asked for a fully referbished room, our room was lovely, very clean, very spacious, seperate bathroom, also very spacious, bath and shower.
We stayed all inclusive, five hour free bar from six oclock until eleven oclock, There was three bar staff, yes there may be a queue but it went down pretty quick.Entertainment very good,
Breakfast very good, evening meal also very good, a great menu to choose from. The only problem that we had at meal times was that the table we sat at we tended to get bypast by the waiter, allthough the staff were lovely and very friendly, we seemed to get served last, it's just unfortunate where we were sat.

Thank you for your post regarding your stay with us. It was good to read that it was enjoyable and you enjoyed your meals. It can take time with 230 guests in the restaurant, but staff do their best to keep up with the demand and I was pleased to see that even though it was busy this didnt spoil your enjoyment

After a long coach trip from Glasgow check in at reception was quick and efficient although we were told our room was on the first floor even though it was on the second, so we had a bit of a run-around finding our room.
First impressions of the room were fine although the bathroom was very small, had no shelving and the shower had mould around it.
Someone had commented that the rooms were cold which I was worried about, I contacted the hotel by email to question this but they failed to reply. There was nothing to worry about as the rooms were extremely warm and comfortable.
The cleaner was very pleasant and made sure we had plenty of tea and coffee.
The television was a bit messed up with only a couple of channels.

Dinner was fine although there wasn’t a great selection of starters and it was advertised that we would receive a glass of wine with dinner but this never happened and if you wanted a drink other than water you would have to stand in the queue at the bar.
Breakfast was adequate and set you up for the day. The staff in the restaurant were very pleasant, not much time for a chat as they were very busy and quick with the meals.

The entertainment was okay, with the usual Bingo and quizzes, the bar was very disappointing, you will never have a hangover here! The drinks advertised included Smirnoff, Bells and Gordon’s but there was one night we were on eleven drinks each and still standing so I don’t know what is put in the drinks. Many of our party felt the same. The worst thing about the hotel was the queues at the bar; you could not sit and enjoy the entertainment as you spent half the night standing at the bar! There should be a policy that you take your own empty glasses back freeing up some members of staff to serve.

There is a bit of a walk into Torquay but plenty to see and do, we visited the Kents cavern which was interesting but a bit on the pricey side. We had a visit to the Grosvenor Hotel featured in the channel 4 programme and met owner Mark Jenkins. We even bumped into the Krankies!!!!

A good time for the price we paid but need to sort out the bar as I felt it was time wasted standing here night after night!

Thank you for reviewing. We have installed a second till into the bar to alleviate the problems with queues and being able to visit the bar 11 times in the evening would indicate that the staff are working hard to keep the queues moving swiftly. We dont encourage guests to carry empty glasses back to the bar, as it is part of the service we provide and reduces the risk of people having accidents

Had a good weekend with National Holidays 17th-20th Feb.

The room was keeped cleaned by Taz and our resturant waiter Aaron was spot on with his service, friendly smile and helpfullness., plenty to choose from.

The hotel is in need of re decoration in some places but overall everyone was helpfull.
The queue for the 5 hour free bar was not too bad althoguh take you glass back at the begining of the night It helps the staff and you get it re-filled.aAlong with the enternaiment bingo, quiz and music.

Our coach driver Simon was excellent with drop off's and pick up's ddirectley from our Hotel door, the excursion were well planned and very nice. Althoguh there is time to go into Torquay or walk along the seafront at Babbacoome well worth the walk.

Would do this trip again

Room Tip: 158 at the rear very quiet

Having visited this hotel quite a few times with differing views I feel compelled to say how enjoyable our visit on 9th December was Booked through National Holidays and I honestly think the hotel not being full helped give a better atmosphere. The service in the dining room was superb mainly to our young waiter Aaron who deserves a special mention but in fairness all the staff were superb and we were really looking forward to our next visit in June 2012 when we are bringing our granddaughter as a half term treat. No National holiday Coaches on date so booked through Shearings in November 2011 4nights fully inclusive i.e. 3 hour bar but am dismayed that Shearings has seen fit to change the package which they insist they can do under their terms and conditions. They say they have listened to customer comments and introduced a "new and improved drinks package" which is four free drinks per person per day but if they were honest they have listened to accountants comments and if they had said in the present economic climate they could not continue with same package it would have been better and not insult our intelligence so BEWARE when booking that your package can be changed at any time e.g. continental breakfast ,one free drink the list is endless. I would not have booked this holiday on these terms but am stuck so think carefully because by booking and receiving confirmation is not what you are guaranteed to receive. A 3 course evening meal is now offered so looks as if tea or coffee is not included but you can use one of your "free" vouchers leaving you three for your holiday night out and as for being shorter queues instead of 3 behind bar there will only be one and at £3.30 for a pint of John Smith's don't think they will be rushed as a lot of people will use there vouchers earlier which is allowed and then stroll to the local pub and save on a night out.

Just stayed at this Hotel with National Express 3 nights/ 4 days costing £116 each and must say we had a really good time, the bedroom was a bit tired and could do with a re-dec but this dosn't take away the service and quality of the food and drink. I have stayed in Hotels with fantastic rooms and rubbish staff and food. I would come back here any time, being gluton free I was amazed that I had been catered for and had my first 3 course meal in many years, I even had a selection of sweets, unbelievable, plus toast with breakfast yummy. Reni our waitress was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, all the staff were really nice. If you want anything special they will get it in for you if they can. The bar was free for 5 hours each night and they served premium brands. A real pleasure to stay at this Hotel. Thank you Bay Trecarn

Thank you for your review and your kind words regarding Reni and our chef. We have great experience in dealing with specialist diets and NIck (our chef) always does his best to offer a varied menu when he can. I am sure his efforts will be appreciated and I will pass on your comments

Have just come back after a 4 day weekend at this hotel and I can honestly say we had a really good time. The hotel reception rooms are quite newly done up and are very pleasant and airy - expecially the resturant, where the food was very good with a good choice. The bedrooms are looking a little tired but saying that they were very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel in good position altho' more Babbacombe than Torquay. Would definitly go back. Well done National Holidays

Once again it is pleasing to read in your review that the staff did a good job and the cleanliness was up to the standard expected, both of which are areas we focus on in a bid to deliver a happy holiday. Hopefully you will consider the hotel and National holidays for a future break!
