“Very Dated”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

Have just returned home after 4 nights at this hotel via National coach holidays...Very poor decoration away from public areas. Torn wallpaper, stained ceilings in walkways to hotel bedrooms, in all a very scruffy condition !. The outside of hotel is also in a very poor condition with rotting window frames and unkempt gardens. I paid £22 extra for s single room which had a great view of the house wall next door and didn,t even have a shower in the very basic room and as a 76 year old found very inconvenient...My second holiday with the mentioned company and very disapointing I must though praise the reception staff for their help when I required a doctor for a medical condition.

Sorry to read that you found the hotel to be dated. We are in the process of refurbishment including rooms, corridors and also the replacement of all existing windows. It is an old building and does take a considerable amount of time to totally refurbish as most people appreciate, especially for the exceptional value we charge the packages we offer during a stay. The room also have a mixture of baths/showers/ and both in some instances so for future reference I would suggest you make your preference known to the hotel you visit as we are always happy to try and help with guest requests. I hope you would consider revisiting us in the future so you can see the work we have done

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel. Quite honestly we could not find one thing to complain about. The whole experience was excellent. Our room had been refurbished and was excellent. The food was excellent. The choice offered was very good. Staff and overall service was to be admired. The entertainment was very good. We will most definitely stay again and would not hesitate in recommending to family and friends. Excellent value for money.

Well we have just got back from four days away in Torquay, and to be honest I am a bit torn what to say about the Bay Trecarn Hotel Babbacombe, all the review pictures we viewed on this site turned out to be correct and I have some too just as bad, but having now been for ourselves the hotel food is great, the staff lovely, good evening entertainment and bingo, yes bingo, shame the hotel building lets it down we were in room 206 and although well cleaned by the house staff it really needed re building,we had a few grumbling on the trip which is a shame for the lovely staff who as usual have to put up with a lack of investment by the owners.

We will not be going back, on orders of my wife, and we will not be complaining to the hotel management as it seems to fall on deaf ears at head office. So come on Bay Hotel management get spending, we appreciate the cheap deals, but you dont have to give the drinks away for nothing charge a little and spend the difference on the rooms I am sure it will pay you in the long run, perhaps one of your directors could justify the reasoning behind this (no spend on the rooms) I am sure other guest would be interested in your answer.

Very upset National Holiday and Shearings Holiday customers.

Room Tip: Keep out of 206 we did hear there were some nice rooms, but not experienced by us.

Sorry to read in your review that you were not happy. We are constantly upgrading our accommodation and it does unfortunately take time. I do take all comments seriously, even when a 2 star review is sandwiched between two 5 star ones so please do not feel your comments are falling on deaf ears. In the current climate we are reinvesting into the property as much as possible, even with the whole of the hotel is about to get all new windows and another 14 rooms planned for refurbishment in the next 12 months. Hopefully now you can see that we are doing all we can to improve the property

Hubby and i just back from a 5 day stay with national holidays. I have to say that this holiday was the best break we have been on ( out of many that we have enjoyed). Our hotel room 282? fronted the hotel and it was more than adequate. We requested a top floor and refurbished room and we got one. Service was exceptional from all quarters. A big thankyou to Christine, dining room supervisor who looked after us. She was extremely busy but still found time to chat with us..The entertainment on each night was of a high standard so much so that we stayed in every nite to enjoy it. Won the bingo, won quiz( twice) . Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thought it excellent value for money.Bonus was that the weather was kind to us too. Thankyou again to all concerned. Im sure we will come back.:0)

Needed a base in the Babacombe area fo Torquay for a weekend. The Trecarne fitted the bill. Room was comfortable warm and clean as was the bathroom. Not 5* but more than adequate We did a Self Drive Break and had 4 drinks vouchers per person per day 24 in total! 1 voucher = 1 pint or a spirit with mixer. Great value.
Food was resonable, pleanty of choice but not huge although we were never hungry. Would not recomend the Vegitarian Breakfast the Veggi sausage was a mixture of mashed potaoe and stuffing...UCK.
There was entertainment each evening which again was good, all in all at £89 pp it was realy good break. Would we go again yes, would we recommend yes we would.

Many thanks for taking the time to post a review. It was pleasing to read you enjoyed everything, except the veggie sausages. We do review our suppliers when we get adverse comments so I will pass that on to our purchasing manager.

A very well run hotel. Staff very professional in their duties, and high standard of accommodation with facilities above the expected star rating. The meals were excellent, all served to your table. Booking in and out was stress free, and quickly done, in the large lounge reception area. Bingo, quiz, and entertainment were all included in the package, as well as some other activities, and a four free drinks night included too.

My wife and myself went for 5 days with National Holidays 14th - 18th March, and were fortunate enough to get five days of good weather.

We found the hotel and its services fine, and our room, (269 I think), was warm, clean and comfortable with plenty of hot water and clean towels.

As others have mentioned the restaurant is lovely, clean and spacious, and wouldn't be out of place in a four star hotel.

The food was plentiful for us and of good quality - if we needed any extra we just had to ask.

Our waiters were very good and efficient, as has been the case in other Bay hotels we have stayed in and I would like to give a special mention to Ben, who though he was not our waiter stepped in and assisted our waitress when she was getting run off her feet by some of our fellow diners.

We found all the staff at the hotel to be both professional and courteous at all times.

National Holidays were excellent as always, and our driver, Les, as well as being an excellent, non confrontational driver, also kept us well informed throughout the holiday.
We had another driver, Ray, covering for our regular driver's two days off. Ray who is a local was excellent at keeping us informed in great detail about the areas we visited, and was a pleasure to be with, (even his jokes were told in a pleasant and entertaining manner),

We thoroughly enjoyed the included trips to Plymouth, Dartmouth and Brixham as well as an "optional" day out on the Wednesday, when we visited Tavistock, (excellent large indoor market) and Princetown, where we stopped for lunch - we also appreciated the excellent scenic tour of Dartmoor.

The only very minor hiccup, strangely enough, was with Trip Advisor!

We contacted the hotel via Trip Advisor to ask if we could have a "refurbished" room and were advised that they had sent the hotel an e-Mail on our behalf. When I checked at the hotel reception they could find no record of my request and the receptionist could not find any e-Mails from Trip Advisor.

However this slight oversight was irrelevant as the "unfurbished" room we were allocated was perfectly satisfactory and to our liking.

We would definitely recommend this Hotel/Holiday - our thanks to all concerned.
