“Christmas at The Rainbow Internetional”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

5 star attention at 3 star hotel. The Christmas decorations were beautifully done, the room was comfortable and warm, the food was simple but very well cooked, and the staff were all friendly and attentive. Would definitely stay again. Very conveniently situated . The hotel is a little tired looking, but I gather it will be redecorated soon.

Room Tip: Try to get room in upper hotel as quite a walk from lower, but then that's healthy to walk off t...

We stayed at the Rainbow on a bargain 'Just Go' coach break. OK, the hotel does need a bit of modernising, especially the bedrooms, but it was comfortable and clean, the food was very good and all of the staff were absolutely excellent - especially the kitchen and restaurant teams, who were friendly, cheerful and very efficient. In fact, I don't think I have ever been in a hotel where the tables were cleared so promptly and efficiently, and that includes some five-star establishments. My main complaint would be the lack of soundproofing as we could sometimes hear next door's television and also a lot of creaking floorboards from an apparently insomniac guest in the room above. However, it's an old building and it's difficult to imagine that much could be done. Earplugs solved the problem! All in all we thought it was good value for what we paid. We were comfortable, warm and well-fed, which is all that one can really ask.

A tired hotel needing a lot of tlc, but more than compensated for by the wonderful staff. Our room needed some updating, but it was clean, very comfortable and a good size. Without exception every member of staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, a good range of meals and as much or as little as you required. I was very impressed by the breakfast which can sometimes be a let-down at this type of hotel. The public areas are very good. A massive entertainment bar which we didn't take advantage of but I understand from other guests was excellent. There was a lot going on in the hotel but we found it quiet with no disturbance. Overall, amazing value, I'd definitely recommend the Rainbow International.

the welcome, politeness and efficiency of the staff is attentive to any problems that might arise, I cut my and they couldn't do enough. The food is plentiful hot and above average standard with good choice. Rooms clean if a little difficult to find depending where you are. pool a little small, no frills. The entertainment every night was very good. Overall the hotel is or was a little "tired", it needs a lick of paint and a bit of filler here and there, but a very good location. Five minutes from the beach and a bus into the main town not far away. Five stars its not but a comfortable and friendly stay, definitely. Would recommend.

Room Tip: ask for ground floor balcony, I know sounds funny, but you get a patio.

Stayed here as attending a weekend event organised by a friend. Event was great, hotel average. 1st room given was clean but smelt, asked reception to change - they cheerfully managed to change even though the hotel was very busy with the event and a coach party. 2nd room nice and large, twin bedded (fairly comfortable). room and building well worn but kept clean. Whole hotel could do with updating and re-decorating etc. Also possibly not that suited to people with severe mobility problems as some areas hard to access - different levels/stairs/long corridors/stair lift not great etc.
Food (stayed for breakfast and evening meals) - not that great if you are vegetarian, plus only 1 choice of fried eggs for breakfast etc. Can only get hot drinks (tea etc) from the machine at breakfast - tasted awful and not that hot, not able to get alternative even if you asked - it's the only place i have ever stayed where freshly made drinks are not served.
Swimming pool not large, but nice enough.
Overall not bad as i had only paid a cheaper group rate - probably would only stay here again if attending a event. certainly would not pay the full higher prices advertised, as could stay somewhere nicer for the money.

Room Tip: staff say all the rooms are different - if you don't like the first one allocated, ask to change...

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. All feedback in important to us.
The Hotel is continually being re-decorated. With such a large amount of rooms, it does - unfortunately - take time to get round to all the rooms.
Regarding the evening meal, there are 2 choices on the vegetarian option each night. However if nothing is suitable, we can always make an alternative. You just have to ask.
I do hope that you will consider returning to us at the Rainbow in the near future.

Went here with travelstyletours. Ok you get lots of coach parties but there were plenty of other travellers too. Hotel in excellent location. You can walk to seafront in 5 mins and bit longer to shops/harbour. They have disabled facilities and entertainment most nights. Food is cafeteria style where you serve yourself. There is plenty of choice for each meal and its of good quality. Drinks are from a machine where you also serve yourself. This isn't fantastic but drinkable. Rooms are old fashioned in decor but are clean and warm and serviced regularly. There is a gym and pool but we didn't try these. Overall a good quality value for money hotel.

We are very happy you enjoyed your time with us.
Its a shame you didn't try our heated indoor swimming pool, but with so much to do around Torquay & its surrounding area, there probably wasn't time.
(We do not actually have a gym anymore. The literature for some of the coach operators that we use is in the process of being updated.)
