“Cheap and Cheerful”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We recently stayed at this hotel for a long weekend. The day we goy there was extremely hot and the hotel has no air conditioning at all. The reception do have fans to hire, but these had all gone by the evening. Room was really spacious and clean, we had a family room for 4. The shower was really cold but was a bit of a relief due to the hot weather. Food was really good, every evening there is a carvery , but there are also other options available and breakfast is buffet so you can help yourself to as much cereal, toast, bacon, eggs, sausages etc. The hotel has a large club house, but not a lot of people were able to stay in it long due to it being very hot in there (no aircon), but the singer that we saw was good and got the audience singing along. There is a small outside area to sit at the front of the hotel, but is quite dated and needs some tlc. Only went in the swimming pool once, nice but a bit small for the size of the hotel. Overall a nice weekend away, but we got this as a bargain price break, and if you keep this in mind then we got what we paid for.

Arrived Friday in the rain for a long weekend. Check in was easy and we were given our rooms. My wife and I werein 202 and we had plenty of room and space. Tea and coffee ensuite and TV. In laws were in 205 as they are disabled this was not big enough for them to move around. went to reception and straight away they were moved to a room that for them was awesome. Thank you to reception. the layout was a bit of a maze but easy to find anything you wanted. there was a nice indoor heated pool ideal for 7 am swim to wash away the beer from the night before. Entertainment for all three nights. Saturday comedian was a very good night. There was a good crowd in also for the weekend. Breakfast was very good with 5 cereals porridge and a hot buffet. toast machine and tea/coffee/juice. Beds were nice but if you like to sleep in ask not to be in the 200,s as they are under the dining room and can be a bit noisy. Plenty to see and do around the area. Dartmouth was a lovely little place to visit enjoyed our time there. Paignton was also very nice. with the sun out Torquay and the Riviera is very nice lace to visit. the Rainbow is in a nice spot within walking distance of the beach and for the more agile a beautiful walk into the town down the prom.

Room Tip: If you like to sleep in ask not to be in the 200's

Although the hotel is dated is was very clean with new towels everyday, tv , tea and coffee facilities in our room.
The meals were outstanding for a 3 star, everything you could wish for at breakfast.
Buffet for evening meal which was a superb carvery with meat that melted in your mouth, lots of veg and great roasties - other alternatives were fish pie, curry and pasta.
Due to the weather being extremely hot we did not venture into the cabaret/night entertainment as there was no aircon in there. Nice 5-10min walk to the beach and restaurants. Staff very friendly too,I would definately return.

We recently stayed at the Rainbow. The price for evening meal, tickets for the burlesque show, the double room with a sea view, and breakfast in the morning was an absolute bargain!

We had fantastic seats for the show, with a great view. The price of drinks was very reasonable. the standard of the acts was very high. My partner and I really enjoyed the night, and stayed to dance afterwards; the DJ played some great stuff!

It was a long journey down from Yorkshire but well worth it, will definitely go and stay at the Rainbow again!

Have just stayed at the Rainbow for two nights and after reading reviews before we went we were very worried and even thought about cancelling. What we found in reality was totally different, yes the rooms are slightly dated and do need air conditioning but we asked for a fan at reception and one soon arrived in our room. The room was spacious and clean and had every thing we needed even a hair dryer. We opted for bed, breakfast and evening meal and I must say the food was varied, hot and the service in the dining room was good, just lacking the air conditioning once again. We received a warm welcome from all staff and nothing seemed too much trouble all in all a great stay for reasonable price, just glad now we didn't cancel!!

Room Tip: First floor was fine for us not too much noise and we were facing onto the main road. Lovely bright...

Title says it all. Rooms are in need of a refurb, but large and generally clean enough. Same goes for the bathrooms. Old and tired, but large and clean enough. Staff friendly, food mediocre but good location a stones throw from the seafront . At less than £70 for a double high season B & B you won't get the Ritz, it's good enough though to make me return at that price though!
