“Great stay!”

Excellent b&b. Service was great..the owners are super nice. Helped us planning our day excursions. Pool is nice and heated. But make sure you use it early in the da, as there is no sun there in the evning, and english weather is not always very warm :P
Beds very comforable, decor is nice! Amazing breakfast! especially the smoked salmon scrambled eggs!

Why go abroad when you can go to the English Riviera and stay with the lovely Gary and Debbie.
If you want a good laugh for however long you stay and sleep in the most comfy beds and go down to breakfast each morning which will never fail to disappoint or leave you hungry then The Shirley is the place to be. We had 4 nights recently and it was a shame to leave to be honest. The whole place just welcomes you from the moment you check in, Gary and Debbie will make The Shirley your second home right from the start. Beautiful bedrooms, tranquil breakfast room full of light and laughter served by a great team of girls and the locally sourced produce makes it so tasty whether your a full English or fruit and cereal. The team of staff they employ are a credit to the whole house. Even fresh milk for tea and coffee in your room must be a first for a start and tasty biscuits too. Relaxing lounge with an honesty bar stocked with fine ales brewed locally with endless information on what to do while your there should you want to leave the Shirley and explore. If you do then take the only surviving Paddle Steamer trip up the river Dart past the home of Agatha Christie. This is a beautiful tree lined river full of wildlife from seals to birds of prey and more nostalgia will pass you by in the way of the frequent steam locomotives. So its a great place for all to see with the added pleasure or returning to the Shirley each evening. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the guest house too. Check their website out it sold it for us!

Room Tip: They have 11 rooms and if they are all like the one we had then you cant go wrong. Out of the way of...

We stayed at the shirley from Monday 11th August until the Thursday and we didn't want to leave! Our room was lovely and clean. Beds re-made and toiletries stocked back up every morning. Breakfast was lovely. Nice bar and pool terrace to sit and have a drink. Only a short walk to the harbour and sea front but still in a nice quiet road. Gary and Debbie were lovely.
Highly recommended and well worth the money, wish we could of stayed longer! First time we have been to torquay and we will definitely be back again staying in the shirley!

In all respects this was great value for money. Spotlessly clean and an excellent Breakfast each day. A spacious Guest Sitting Room where it was possible to sit in comfort reading from a wide assortment of books and magazines.

Service was top rate and very friendly without being over the top. All for an overnight rate in high-season of 35 pounds per head. A splendid example to set.

The Shirley Hotel has all the advantages of a good hotel with nicely decorated rooms, good bathrooms and very comfortable and kingsize beds. There is a small but very nice swimming pool that you will appreciate after a long and tiring coastal walk. Breakfast is just very good. What makes this place special is the fact that the owners have succeeded in combining the luxuries of a hotel with the cosiness and friendlyness of a B&B. When in Torquay, this is definitely our favorite.
