Parkdean - Torquay Holiday Park
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Really disappointed with my stay, 1 st of all booked with Hoeseasons as I always do and always been happy, only to arrive and find its actually a park dean site. This year paid extra for their best caravan (this was not a sun holiday) over £500 for 1 week, when we got to the caravan, which couldn't have been further from the entertaiment etc (surely part of paying extra is been close to everything?? Parkdean may want ot consider this) I found it to be of average standard, ok we had en suite (with a broken toilet seat which i reported by way of posting a card at reception, and for it never to be fixed) and a washer dryer, but to pay an extra £200 just for that, not happy, the caravan was clean, but basic as far as i'm concerned, in fact i have booked sun holidays and had more impressive accomodation. We actually left a day early, it was an ok stay but the price is not justified at all.
Also note about security, real job worths, ok there is a sign daying not to bring your food and drinks in to the club lounge, but every night i was subject to a bag search, i quickly noticed this wasn't performed on every one, in fact seemed very targeted ( and yes mid way i got caught with 1 packet of crisps, and they were taken off me!!!) I mean its a bloody holiday park, is there really a need?? Love Torquay, but would not book this park again i'm afraid

Room Tip: Don't pay the extra for a luxury caravan and don't smuggle any food in your bags ;-)

Close to Torquay, paignton & brixham , we came to devon to visit the attractions in this area, the park was great location for our needs.

the caravan was clean on arrival.
beds comfy. i slept the whole night through (which is rare)
(i suggest you bring some scissors, a non-stick frying pan & dustpan n' brush for your kitchen needs)

the arcade is plenty of fun, big enough to enjoy a variation of games, from 2p slot machines, collect Tickets on the 10p machines, ride on car/motorbike races, deal or no deal , grab games ,fruit machines. it also has the van gogh sketch photo machine for holiday snap sovenier.

mini supermarket well stocked. Nice playground.

Entertainment - great for the kids, and we found it funny when the team give each other forfiets etc, for example, egg roulette. and ice bucket challenge, pie in the face . etc the Kids LOVE IT.
finishes at 8.30pm, which isn't too late for bedtime to commence for the little ones.

It went on for bingo but I went bk to caravan by then.

in the area, Babbacombe model village, living coast zoo, Paignton Zoo, Dinosaur world, Brixham Harbour. and MORE!!!!!!!
And this park is in the thick of it. brilliant.

We would come here again.

Family , mum, 2 kids, age 3 & 6 & Grandad.

Room Tip: We had a caravan mid-way down the hill. near the arcade side.

We had a fantastic time at torquay holiday park. When we first got there we thought it was a nice little holiday park with everything you need. A little disappointed with the caravan, it was very clean but quite small and dated. Massive stain on the carpet, the toilet leaked and a very noisy shower! But that wasn't going to spoil our holiday. The park is a ten minute drive to torquay town and all the attractions but that was fine for us. There's a nice pool which I felt relaxed in because the water was quiet shallow for the children. The club at night was nice and the children enjoyed the kids entertainment with Sid and lizzie! Thought the patio bar needed a little more attention as it was always very dirty inside so we sat outside. Shame because it could be a lovely place to stay for food or a drink and there is a large play area outside too. The staff inside just seem to stand around talking when they should be clearing and cleaning tables. There's a large grass area which is nice, it is very hilly and we were right at the bottom but that didn't bother us. Over all we did have a lovely time and would consider going back but would go for a more modern caravan next time!

Room Tip: Go for a wider and modern caravan.

We visited as this site as our main summer-holiday in 2014. We have two small kids (four and six) and "grandma" joined us. This site caters for *some* of our needs, but not all.
The kids entertainment is excellent, with the 'Sid and Lizy' team delivering varied and high quality entertainment for kids aged from around three to ten. The activity club during the day was good and our kids enjoyed it. They made models and played games and were happy to go back - in fact, they were disappointed not to be going on days we had other activities planned. The entertainment for kids in the early evening was also good, with around 75-90 minutes of good quality fun and games, ending by half-eight when the adult entertainment takes over.

Our caravan was close to the pool and main building. When we arrived it was very clean and well presented and contained the usual random selection of utensils, cutlery and other objects you would expect to find. We'd elected to bring our own duvets and pillows from home, and I'm glad we did. The beds were made up and ready to use but are not exactly luxurious. The phrase, "prison issue", comes to mind. Perhaps a little unfair, but if you have space to bring your own bedding I would do it.

A few observations about the site: It is VERY hilly. If you have problems getting up and down steep hills then don't even consider it. The caravans are crowded in over a number of terraces which slope away from the main entrance. There's a difference of around twenty to thirty metres (really) from the lowest point to the main building. Not a problem if you're fit and healthy, but with any kind of physical impediment this is going to affect your holiday very badly.

There's not a lot of open space here either. The caravans are really packed in, and because of the gradient there's not much open space. Our kids like to fly kites, but there isn't anywhere here for that.

There's not a lot of choice here either The restaurant is distinctly average, serving basic burgers etc, and is certainly not big enough. It's called the 'Patio Bar', but is closed by 9PM, which is disappointing if you're looking for a quiet drink somewhere other than the noisy main building; which itself is essentially one room plus a very average arcade. You're forced to enter and exit the main building through the arcade in a transparent attempt to part you from your cash. Other doors are locked, but it's very hard to see why, other than to channel everyone through the arcade.

Swimming pool is okay, but nothing to amaze. Large pool is uniformly 1.1m deep, accompanied by a very small kids pool, a fierce spa-pool, and a slide which is inexplicably closed half the time. Loud music plays here for eight hours a day which can be heard across most of the park and can be annoying.

The location isn't that great either. It is quiet, and a reasonable base from which to explore Devon, but is a long.....LONG......way from the sea-front or any major attractions. We resorted to getting a cab to a quiet pub so we could have a drink while grandma watched the kids, and it's a ten to fifteen minute drive to the front in Torquay when you decide to do it.

This site has some things going for it. Kids entertainment is the main one for us, but once our kids are out of the 'Sid and Lizzy' phase and looking for more I wouldn't even consider it. It's just too small to offer much choice. One clubhouse, one arcade, one mediocre restaurant.

The staff were friendly enough but not very helpful and seemed rather miserable. The toilet in our caravan leaked when we arrived and despite reporting it twice, it didn't get fixed.

To be honest, I wasn't very impressed. There's something rather half-hearted about this place, and having stayed at both, I would recommend the Parkdean site at Croyd over this one. It has the same kids entertainment but is a lot nicer.

Room Tip: Pay £10 for a caravan at the top of the park near the entrance. There's a MASSIVE hill to the v...

After reading some of these reviews i nearly cancelled the holiday. But so pleased that i didn't . Its a great park , a bit hilly so if you don't like walking or are disabled best to book your caravan in advance. Other than that the receptionist was very helpful , very friendly. Evening entertainment was real good. Pool really big and friendly lifeguards. I'm a single mum with 3 children ages 8,11 and 15 they enjoyed it all. Would definitely book to stay here again. Thankyou parkdean.

We were hesitant about the site after reading past reviews however we took the chance as we were using the site as a base to explore the area rather than spend a lot of time in the caravan. We were pleasantly surprised to what we found. Our caravan was a 2014 model and it was exceptionally clean, well equipped and spacious - there was nothing we could fault with the caravan. The best caravan we have stayed in over a number of years. However I have to say it was new and in time this could be different particularly with cleanliness . The caravan was at the bottom of the site and we had to walk up the hill each time we wanted to use the onsite facilities however we knew when we booked that the site was hilly so it did not bother us but something to note if you have young children in pushchairs or elderly member's in your group. One advantage with staying at the bottom of the site was it was quiet and we had no passing people. other than the people who were staying near us. Entertainment was fantastic for our 2 children, aged 4 and 6 who loved it all especially Sid and Lizzie. The Parkdean Troupers really needed to be commended. They worked hard and were very good delivering all the evening entertainment. We attended one morning session for Tots and Starlanders and again this was well planned and delivered. We used the swimming pool several times, the lifeguards like the Parkdean Troupers were brilliant, they were committed to their job and made sure that everyone had a safe and fun time. My daughter attended a wet and wild session and a female lifeguard was amazing and understanding by helping my daughter over the first part of the inflatable and continued to do so each time so she could complete the inflatable course. The pool was clean and some of the lifeguards were seen cleaning the pool side whilst we were there. The children also made use of the good playground which they enjoyed. Though the site was in a location where you couldn't walk out, which again we knew. it was the perfect base for us and all the attractions we wanted to see were close by and a short car journey away. We used the shop only for milk but it had all the necessary day to day provisions and as expected was more expensive. Would we go again? - we had a positive experience of this site however we know from reading previous reviews that next time if we did come again it might not be as good so we are unlikely to come back for this reason, as it would be disappointing with having a good holiday to having a poor holiday. The reviews are not consistent.

Room Tip: If you can choose a newer or 2014 caravan to ensure you have a good holiday.

Just got back from a lovely 7 night stay at this park with my little family, check in was quick and simple, which was fine by us after travelling we were eager to get to our apartment and get the kettle on. After reading previous reviews I didn't have high expectations, nor did I when looking at the outside of the apartments......however I was very pleasantly surprised to find our apartment (206) clean and tidy. We have children aged 9, 6 and 5yrs, they all loved the parkdean troupers, they only went to 2 of the daytime clubs as other days we spent out of the park exploring local areas. But on both these days the kids loved the activities and the staff were brilliant with all the children that attended. The park on site is perfectly situated so kids can go off and play whilst we did some washing in the laudrette and still keep an eye on them. We only ate once in the patio bar for breakfast and it was a good for the money it cost.
Evening entertainment was a blast, something different every night, kids absolutely loved Sid and lizzy and the games they did, the troupers I believe out did themselves every night in keeping the children entertained, and also giving the parents a giggle in the middle of it all. After the children's entertainment you have bingo every evening, I love bingo and was a bonus winning on our holiday. Later in the evening you then have parkdean live shows, some evenings more for the grow ups but still suitable for the children to stay. We had a fabulous time and would definitely come back. I must also give the parkdean troupers, Abby, George, chris, Kerry, the entertainment manager and another girl (apologies on forgetting names, I'm surprised I've remembered that many anyway) a massive thumbs up, they do very long days and nights but they kept smiling.
That being all the good stuff said, the only grumble we can say is in the broadway club during day time activities we weren't too sure if a cleaner had been in after the previous nights use as tables still grubby and food and rubbish on floor. Main entrance to apartments didn't seem to us as though they were ever cleaned while we stayed there.
The only other thing is apartment walls are thin so be aware you will hear inconsiderate people in corridors and slamming doors. However this did not affect our sleep or disturb our children, I can only think this was because we were always very tired from our eventful days and that we were on the top floor, which I would recommend being on as then you won't have anyone above you banging. You will only hear the seagulls hopping about on the roof mind but again didn't bother us, wasn't loud and just one of those things.
