“Clean, comfortable and friendly”
Reviewed 3 August 2011

My Partner and i checked B & Bs on the internet, looking at prices ( sensible prices ) good reviews and location. We both agreed The Glenwood Hotel was our first choice.
Whenwe arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly couple - Tina & Arthur, the proprietors.
Our room was clean and very large, with a nice comfortable bed, ( slept very well ) and a mini fridge ( nice touch ).
We only stayed B&B but the breakfast was a FULL english, and i DO mean full, with plenty of choice if thats not your thing.
Location is very good, just a short taix ride from the station. 6 - 8 min walk to Torre Abbey, park and sea front or a 10 min walk to town.
Will definitely recommend to family and friends. We certainly had an excellent weeks stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have the best views.

My wife Jean and I have just returned from our weeks stay at the Glenwood Hotel, this was our fourth visit and the food just gets better. Arthur & Tina make us so welcome and nothing is to much trouble for them.
We booked seven days half board and the breakfasts & evening meals were fantastic, all home cooked local produce to a very high standard, the room was en-suite, large & extremely comfortable.
I would have no hesitation in highly recommending the Glenwood Hotel and be assured you will be extremely well looked after by Arthur & Tina.

We shall be will be returning again in October.

Stopped at The Glenwood in May after being recommended by another hotel that was closed when we wanted to stay and were glad we were recommended to Glenwood, rather than staying in the other hotel.

We arrived Sunday evening, after our travel down, and were welcomed with smiles, and asked to sign in, and asked if we required a map of the area, we were then shown to our lovely and spacious room. We were informed where we to go if needed anything, and times of breakfast.

After a brilliant sleep on the comfy bed, we went down to a freshly prepared breakfast to your requirements with choice of tea/coffee/orange juice and then were told best places to go for that day as the weather was forcast to be brilliant.

We have a brilliant 2 night break and come home de-stressed and so relaxed.

Tina offered a street map and directions to the town and seafront upon our arrival and information on local attractions. The beds were very comfortable and it was quiet even though there are alot of nearby b&bs. Breakfast was lovely and even my fussy daughter ate some cooked breakfast and my partner was left full up till dinner. Bedrooms and entire place was spotless. We all really enjoyed our stay, great base for us and would recommend to other families.

We booked the glenwood guest house on recommadation from our friends. On reading the first review we were abit scheptical about going especaily with a young baby, but i have to say we never encountered any of these criticisms. When we arrived all three of us were giving a friendly warm welcome.
We stay in room1,it was clean, spacious, comfortable and ample room for our travel cot.The ensuite was excellent nice big shower, our complimentry tray had a fine selection of flovoured teas, coffee and bed time drinks.
Breakfast was a varied selcetion freshly cooked to our liking.
Very nice location, quite road, just 10 mins to the seafront and town centre.
We would not hesitate on recommending this guset house to anyone and will return next year.
A big thank you to Tina,Arthur and the family for making our hoilday memorable

I recently spent a wonderful 3 nights at The Glenwood Hotel enjoying a short break with my partner. I was very shocked to find a negative review as I couldn't fault the hotel in anyway - the reviewer must have got out of bed on the wrong side!

When we arrived we were greeted by Tina and shown to our room. She was very friendly and full of helpful information and certainly had plenty of time for us. The room itself was lovely and welcoming, and very clean. It was well equipped with tea and coffee making, a mini fridge, and a hairdrier, there is even an iron/board available. I particularyly loved the retro styled alarm clock!

Breakfast was fantastic! We really enjoy a good cooked breakfast and a Glenwood breakfast is going to be hard to beat! There are fruits, cereals, and yoghurts to help yourself to and then you can order a variation of different cooked breakfasts, they even cooked 'eggy bread' for us and the toast kept coming!

There is a large lounge with a huge tv to enjoy, and I loved sitting out on the little sun terrace before going out for the evening. The location of the Glenwood is ideal, just a 5 minute walk to the town centre, station, and seafront. The car didn't leave the hotels car park for 3 days.

Overall I would thoroughly recommend the Glenwood Hotel to everyone. A welcoming family, really great food, lovely clean and comfortable rooms, and ideal location. We'll definitely be going back.

I have read a more than damaging review of this property and as a repeat guest of this establishment I would like to put my experiences down for people to read.

I stay at The Glenwood around once every two months as a business visitor to Torquay and have done for the last three years (that must say something). You will always get a warm welcome on arrival and I have noticed that even if you havn't stayed there before the welcome is Always warm and friendly.

The rooms are Very clean and well equiped, bedding clean and fresh, towels soft and fluffy (unlike some of the other places I stay.

Breakfast is freshly cooked, full of flavour and sets you up for the day, should you opt for evening meal (which I have on the odd occasion) you will get a hearty, home cooked meal, that is full of flavour.

At The Glenwood you are made to feel at home within the Proprietors home. You have use of the Lounge with large leather sofa's and one of the biggest TV's around. If you are lucky you might even meet the family dog!!! Even more rewarding is if you meet their little granson, who is just finding his feet and is every where (cant help to put a smile on your face)

So all in all if you are looking for a basic, middle of the road establishment where the rooms are inadequate, where the food is limp and the welcome is cold. Then The Glenwood is not for you.

If you want clean rooms, good food, made to feel part of the family, Oh and a car park then The Glenwood is the place to stay.
