We have just returned from a wonderful week in The Coach House. It felt like home. A lovely stay - if I wanted to buy a perfect cottage for the family this would be it almost down to the last detail. The advantage of the Coach House was we had the privacy one has when renting a private cottage with the advantages of staying on an estate with wonderful facilities. The pool area/sauna/steam room/soft play area was magnificent and the outdoor play area and tennis court/outdoor swimming pools would have been a great addition in summer too. Add in a warm welcome from the frindly owners and the most magical location 10 minutes from Totnes and Dartmouth and you have all the ingredients for a memorable stay. Highlights: Devon Steam Railway, Blackpool Sands (22 deg c on 16 Oct !) and the fish and chips at Rockfish in Dartmouth.

We've just returned from our 1st family holiday with out 6 month old daughter. We stayed in the Hayloft & it was just perfect for our needs. We loved the contemporary decor & the open plan living space meant Seren was so happy as mum & dad was in view all week! The fact that the Hayloft is set aside from the other cottages meant that we didn't have to worry if we made any noise. As it were, I think we were all so relaxed, Seren slept better than she ever has.

The facilities were great, we made use of the swimming pool everyday & Seren loved playing in the soft play area. We also managed to get a game of tennis in. Although the cottages were fully occupied we had sole use of the pool every day, it was fab!

Gitcombe feels remote, yet it's just a short drive from Dartmouth & Totnes, with loads of things to do. We could have easily have filled another week. Seren enjoyed her first paddle at Blackpool Sands during the fabulous Indian summer we were blessed with!

A truly lovely place, which we would recommend to anybody wanting a relaxing break. We hope to return, and soon!

We spent 2 weeks in Burrator cottage in June and had a great holiday. The setting is beautiful with stunning views and countryside. The facilities are great ,especially as we had quite a bit of rain, so spent lots of time in the indoor swimming pool and soft play area. With a 1 year old this was fantastic. The outdoor pool wasn't open much as the weather wasn't warm enough but we did manage to use the tennis court and swings. The cottage itself was very nice, although smaller than what it looked like in the photos. We had 4 adults and a toddler staying and the living area was quite small for this amount of people. However, it was beautifully done up and the beds were comfortable, lovely bathrooms etc. I hadn't realised that you have to bring a lot of the kitchen/bathroom items yourself: loo roll, kitchen roll, soap for kitchen, kitchen cloths - so make sure you take those with you.
We would definitely consider returning. It is expensive but you get what you pay for with the facilities. A great holiday!

Here are some suggestions of things to do nearby that we enjoyed:
-Drive to Dittisham and take a little boat over to Greenway (Agatha Christie's holiday home. National Trust property)
-Coleton Fishacre - stunning National Trust property which was the home of the D'Oyly Carte family
-Pennywell Farm and Totnes Rare Breeds Farm - great for kids and the rare breeds farm is right by a working steam train station
-Go to Sharpham Vineyard for lunch
-Blackpool Sands - lovely beach

Just returned from a week in The Hayloft. Wonderful place with fantastic on-site facilities especially for little ones. Its also located brilliantly so that there is loads to do in the area with kids (whatever the weather)! Note that the roads leading to and from Gitcombe are single track so not suitable for walking with buggys.

The Hayloft was beautifully decorated and very confortable. One comment though, is that its not particularly toddler-friendly as everything (TV, DVD, oven, fridge etc) was within a child's reach, which is not ideal if you have an inquisitive toddler! Also the picture gives the impression of a relatively spacious mezzanine area, which its not. It is essentially a studio, which made cooking/ talkiing/ watching tv etc in the evenings a little tricky once our little one had gone to bed! It would be better suited for a couple plus baby rather a toddler.

All in all though a great place in a stunning part of the country.

This was our first visit to Gitcombe House and we were not disappointed. We stayed in Maristow cottage - beautifully decorated with all mods cons. Our friends stayed in Yennadon barn.

The large open plan living area worked really well and the galleried landing above was an ideal retreat for teenagers with laptops.....! It also provided an additional sleeping area for a parent wishing to escape an insomniac toddler!

The kitchen, whilst compact, had everything you could need and was decorated very tastefully.

One thing worth mentioning is the fact that the bedrooms and bathrooms are downstairs. They are all designed to a high spec and make the most of the space available, but the double room and bunk room are reeally quite snug. It is also quite noisy with the living space being above but as long as everyone staying takes this into consideration, it is not a problem (just don't put the washing machine on before going to bed... unless you use ear plugs!!).

There were some really nice touches - snug towels, REN prodcuts and fresh flowers.

The location is superb, with far reaching views and the facilities are fabulous and are created very sympathetically (without impacting too heavily on the landscape).

Our children - aged 3, 10 and 12 - were all catered for. Within the building that the pool is housed is also a soft play area and pool table. There is also a sauna, steam room and a jacuzzi for parents managing to escape. The outdoor pool was not in use (we were visiting over February half term). There is a tennis court - which we used daily - and a lovely outdoor play area with swings and climbing equipment.

We visited Dartmouth (lovely town with harbour for crabbing) and we ate lunch at the Rock Fish. Good atmosphere and fabulous fish and chips (colouring pens etc. to keep little ones amused).

We visited Blackpool Sands and Bantham Beach (both lovely and a short drive away).

We will definitely be back.....

We had an amazing week at Gitcombe! The facilities were great and kept adults and children entertained! The pool area is family friendly with a great outdoor jacuzzi - amazing views across the Devon countryside. Top points went to the tennis court which we used very day - and a 1 minute walk from the cottage.
Cottages are very well equipped, clean with good bathrooms and lots of hot water!! Dartmouth and Totnes are nearby - great for crabbing and the fantastic Riverford Kitchen is a must for lunch or dinner.
We would definitely recommend and look forward to another visit in the future.

We stayed in Meavy Barn at the end of Jan for our first holiday with our 4 month old daughter. It was perfect. We had the place to ourselves, swam in the gorgeous indoor pool every day and relaxed in the steam room and sauna.

The setting is beautiful with some lovely walks through the woods, past rivers, a variety of farm animals and ending in pubs!

We visited Totnes, Dartmouth and Blackpool Sands - all of which are worth a visit.

We had a fabulous time and will definitely be back. We've already recommended Gitcombe to loads of friends!

A couple of negatives: because the bedrooms are downstairs they are quite noisy if people are upstairs cooking/eating/watching tv. Thankfully our baby is a good sleeper! The only other comment is that the owners could be a bit more generous with the Ren smellies!
