“Lovely place in idyllic setting.”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Gitcombe is a very relaxing place to stay - so much so we've been there twice in a year. Having the indoor swimming pool and outdoor hot tub takes the pressure off the weather and we fall quickly into a nice routine of activities in the morning, lunch out and swimming in the afternoon.
When we visited in February we felt that possibly the decor was getting a bit tired. We were really pleased to see that it has been bought and Peter and Joanne seem enthusiastic and dynamic. I think they'll give the whole place just the lift it needs.
We will definitely return.

We've just returned from a week's holiday at the Gitcombe cottages over half term and had a fantastic week. We stayed in the Sheepstor cottage which was perfect for our family (2 children aged 18 months and 4 years) and could have fitted more as there were 2 full size singles and 2 children's bunk beds in addition to a large double and travel cot on site. It is a perfect setting for a young family holiday with plenty to do locally but if you hit a spell of bad weather, it remains fun for the kids as there is a great indoor swimming pool, lovely warm outdoor hot tub looking over a beautiful view and indoor play area for under 5's.

We highly recommend it as a holiday particularly for young families. We hope to be back soon.

This was our second trip to Gitcombe in 3 months and we had a fabulous time. We stayed at the Coach House with our children (aged 6 and 7). Peter and Joanne who have recently taken over are warm and wonderful hosts and made a lot of effort to make us feel welcome. We particularly appreciated the drinks reception that they hosted and the pumpkin carving competition was great fun. The Coach House is lovely and offers wonderful living space for a family - the main living room/kitchen is 30' long with an Aga at one end and an open fire at the other - perfect for an autumn/winter break. The fixtures and fittings are of very high quality. The pool is lovely, the hot tub really decadent and we used the tennis court most days. Gitcombe is situated in a very scenic valley, equidistant from Dartmouth and Totnes, which are both charming towns. The local beaches are delightful and there is plenty to do and great eating out options . We'd recommend it to anyone (particularly good for families) and will return. Thanks!

Room Tip: The Coach House is a particularly good winter option because of the Aga and fire. It also has more i...

We stayed in Maristow with our 5 year old and 2 year old. Lovely cottage! Indoor swimming pool was a HUGE hit - we used it twice a day. Gitcombe is very relaxing and a great place to go with kids as it is so safe and secure. The grounds are great and everything is maintained to a high standard. Peter and Joanne are fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome and Robert is still talking about the Porsche!!! Would recommend Gitcombe to anyone as it offers something for all ages. We will be back......................

This was the third time in 4 years that we have stayed at Gitcombe. With 2 children (4 & 2 years old) this is like home from home. The 2 cottages we have stayed in (Yennadon and Meavey) are very comfortably furnished including log stoves, DVD player and very clean. Gitcombe is between Totness and Dartmouth, so ideally located for lots of activites. As well as being in its own idyll surrounded by hills and woods. The indoor swimming pool, soft play area, sauna, steam room and outside hot tub also ensure there is something to do with the kids even if the weather is not great. Peter and Joanne, who have just taken ownership, are perfect hosts and keen to maintain the relaxing atmosphere unique to Gitcombe.

Room Tip: All cottages are unique, some with balcony others with a terrace. Would not be disappointed with any...

Stayed with daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandchildren...decided on the 'Garden House' to give us space...a fabulous place, with direct access to the indoor pool and great views across the site. The owners were unobtrusive yet warm and friendly, with a wonderfully relaxed approach to everything. The outdoor pool is particularly impressive, and beautifully warm!

Hope the soon-to-be new owners will maintain the lovely relaxed atmosphere at this haven of peace.

Room Tip: Garden House sleeps 8 in comfort and has a wonderful upstairs living space...open plan sitting room...

Gitcombe provided the perfect location for a family holiday. We stayed in the Hayloft (a studio apartment) and our family were in the Coach House opposite. This provided much fun for the 2 grandchildren ( 2 and 5) who delighted in running over to join us at breakfast - once we had opened the blinds to signal we were up and ready! The Hayloft was really comfortable and cleverly designed with plenty of kitchen and bathroom space, one large double bed, lounge area, TV, games etc., dining space for 4 and a small wooden balcony overlooking the drive. The balcony could, with some judicious tree management, provide a sunny spot to sit in the morning and late afternoon. The Hayloft is a wooden construction on first floor level, with a wooden stair case to the entrance and a small open loft space with a sturdy wooden ladder to enable access. This could be used as a sleeping area for an older child/teenager but it is open planned without safety rails. Being a grandparent is wonderful but full on - and so having the Hayloft as our own bolt hole was much appreciated.

Although there were five other families in residence on the Gitcombe site we never felt ontop of oneanother. Our family thoroughly made full use of the tennis court, play areas, the heated indoor and outdoor pools and we barbequed with our family at the Coach House every evening we were home - we were also lucky to have very sunny warm weather.

If you like walking, there were plenty of footpaths in the area - one from Gitcombe led down to a village closeby with a couple of good friendly Inns which welcomed children. It goes without saying that this area of Devon has plenty to do for all ages and weathers. We would certinly return to Gitcome again as a family or just as a couple - whatever the season.
