“Devon delight..”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

We have just returned from a week at Gitcombe - a very lovely part of the Devon countryside within 15 mins drive of Dartmouth. Our girls loved the pools and the hot tub - which we had to ourselves more often than not. The grounds are stunning with views over rolling countryside, the owners were down to earth and very welcoming. There's a fab local which is walkable (with the odd shoulder ride for our just turned six yr old), and Sharpham Vineyard just five minutes drive with a wonderful cafe and chilled rose. I am sure we will join the growing number of returning guests.

Our first trip to Gitcombe and wow - it was all we hoped for and more. The new, energetic owners are lovely - the perfect balance of low key and around if you need them. Immaculate property - all elements cared for daily- indoor pool, outdoor pool, playground, hot tub with fab views and a superb tennis court to name some. We went sailing with the owner recommended family friendly firm and it was superb fun. Plenty of lovely beaches within a drive - including Bantham and Blackpool Sands. We will be back - assuming we can get in! Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Plenty of photos and details on the site to choose!

Our third visit, it's becoming a habit!
Have reviewed this before and it's still as good as ever.

Very impressed with the new owners. When I mentioned that my supermarket delivery was cancelled due to "being too busy", leaving us in a bit of a mess as the kids needed to eat, plus I couldnt talk to the supermarket as the phone signal is patchy- the owner got on the phone (without me knowing) and said something forecefully enough to get them to backtrack and duly deliver the shopping within the original timeslot! Now that's service!

Would recommend Rockfish in Dartmouth as a kid friendly restaurant.

We stayed in the coach house at Gitcombe with our 20mth old daughter and couldn't have asked for more. The accommodation was a great combination of a traditional building with all the mod cons and was clean and well maintained (as were all the facilities).

The grounds were very peaceful, you wouldn't have known there were other people there.

The indoor pool and soft play area were perfect for those days when the weather wasn't so good or we wanted to stay more local and the tennis court and outdoor playground provided plenty of opportunity for our daughter to explore.

The location was great for various towns and excellent beaches.

Joanne and Peter couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful but our daughter's undoubted highlight was Max the dog. We can't wait to come back.

We loved Gitcombe. The location is perfect as it is completely stunning countryside all around and you wake up to the sounds of the countryside. However it is still an easy 10-15 minute drive to Dartmouth with all the shops, restaurants etc as well as several lovely country pubs only 5 minutes away. The cottage *Yennadon" was very well kitted out with everything you need in the kitchen, decent TV, Wi-Fi etc and the towels/bed linen were decent quality. The pools are kept in pristine condition and the outdoor hottub (which is kept lovely and hot, not tepid as in some places). The owners are really nice and friendly and make you feel very welcome.
We'd love to go back soon - unfortunately already booked up for this August!

We've only been home for a few hours but are longing for the stunning views, a dip in the outdoor pool and the complete tranquility of Gitcombe.
We had amazing weather and managed to visit most of the local beaches but there's little need to leave the grounds as there is so much to offer. We felt completely relaxed letting our 1 & 3 year olds roam around the grounds knowing Joanne and Peter the hosts were so welcoming of little people and had taken care not to miss any special touches - enclosed soft play visible from pool and outdoor adventure playground within view of the patio along with a shed full of great beach and garden toys!
Whilst most cottages we're occupied it felt so calm as there is so much space.
We stayed in Maristow, very spacious for the 4 of us.
We miss you Gitcombe, see you soon!

Am loathed to share Gitcombe! We simply couldn't fault our holiday. Our cottage (Burrator) was absolutely lovely - everything was of great quality- comfortable beds, great bed linen, fixtures and fittings of high standard, sofas and armchairs so squishy and snuggly. Even the basics provided (washing up liquid, laundry and dishwasher tablets etc). The cottage had everything you need. The toy shed was brilliant -as was the bbq (there were 6 of us so the cute wall mounted one on our terrace wasn't big enough so we used one from The Shed). The indoor pool and outdoor hot tub were amazing, the grounds are immaculate and so perfect for families - though couples would appreciate and enjoy Gitcombe too - its not just for families with young children. Outdoor pool was brilliant fun - the views, the location, the atmosphere- what else can we say?! Joanne and Peter are such lovely owners, friendly, helpful and so welcoming. We felt like family - so relaxed and comfortable. We are returning next year and can't wait!

Room Tip: The smaller cottages are perfectly located with incredible views, though the Garden House (has its o...
