We've been going to the South Hams for years & have often had lunch at the Watermans as the setting is wonderful - a terrace by the the river with ducks etc. We always had sandwiches & no complaints for that.

Recently we stayed nearby at Tuckenhay & thought we would try it for dinner - what a mistake. A sticky table, lack lustre staff & few other customers should have put us off.

My stew with dumplings was stodge & the single dumpling when I found it was uncooked. Oddly it came with a side dish of red cabbage & slices of bread. The rest of our main courses were mediocre but edible. Why didn't I complain? I'm not sure - probably because I don't look for an argument on holiday & if the food is that poor what else can they offer me? None of the staff checked to see if we were happy at any stage.

Its not cheap either - similar in price to the Tower at Slapton which is superb.

What a disappointment.
