We were down for a football game, after a long journey they let us check in early and put our stuff in the room. We stayed for a drink then headed off. After the game we headed back for some food and drink. The mixed grill was really good and the atmosphere of the place is a great one to be in. The room was comfy and with fantastic views of the sea. The free breakfast the next morning was a very welcome sight. Will stay there again.

after reading the negative comments, i was little bit shocked, as luckily we didn't have any nasty experiences. the food wasn't exceptional, but you get what you pay for, it is a pub!
the staff was polite and the service was quick. not sure on the smell in the pub though...

We were in the area to watch a band at another venue and were reccomended to stay at the Spyglass and Kettle as a budget accomodation. I think things must have changed sinced the reviews I've read on here. The food was prompt, tasty and great value. Yeh the room was a little tired but very clean and comfortable and the staff went out of their way to make us welcome. Breakfast was great too. And the room rate? Don't think you'll find cheaper locally. We spend lots of weekends away watching bands and have already decided that we'll be going back soon for two nights to watch their own live music. I learnt a long time ago, don't believe every review you read, you could just miss a gem. A lot of effort is being put in by the very pleasant Sam and all her team. Great customer service. Thanks for making us so welcome.

After booking a so called cottage in the new forest through Hoseasons and finding it was nothing more than an outhouse in some ones garden we left and found the Spyglass and Kettle we arrived with bags of food we had bought 4 the cottage which the staff kindly stored in their fridge for us and even warmed and plated up up the curry we had bought from Waitrose,,,we were shown to the family room which was spacious included a settee and bath and shower. Breakfast was lovely and a good filling start 2 the day, nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were very polite and helpful,. Brilliant value 4 money. We were only booked in for 4 nights but ended up staying 4 a week, Sky sports on in bar and the bands on fri and sat nights are brilliant and the locals very friendly.....if you need a review on the Spyglass and kettle my husband and i have booked x-mas and new year there,,,,,Would highly recommend a stay there........

Came here to eat to celebrate my parents anniversary. Was very busy had to wait ages to get order in and even longer for food to arrive. When it came out my wife's lasagne was cold, so we complained to the waitress. She struggled with English so got shift manager out. We were greeted by an extremely bad attitude, He said that it was due to being busy! After an exchange of words he finally agreed to get us a new lasagne. The same lasagne came back piping hot, which suggests it was just thrown in the microwave. When it came to paying the bill we said we were not satisfied, and the staff member just shrugged his shoulders. On a plus point the band were brilliant, and many people were up dancing. My advice would be avoid this place, for food. If you want to watch a band and have a beer its ok.

I did not stay at this hotel after eating in the restaurant area. This was enough to put me off. Tables and menu's sticky, carpet stank of old food and drink throughout the area, it was cold and had a damp uninviting atmosphere and the food was just terrible and inedible, came out hungry and feeling dirty. Never again!
