“A quiet, homely haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

This is a unique hotel for those suffering from life threatening diseases who are welcome with or without their carers, or just for the carers who may be exhausted and need a break. It is a well equipped, elegant hotel, that produces delicious, nourishing home cooked food. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, although there is no hands on nursing there is plenty of advice on hand from the Macmillan nurses that are always on duty.

Believe me a week here is a life saver !

Room Tip: There are well equipped rooms for less able guests, suggest you ring up and talk to the reception wh...

Following a week of radiotherapy, the Maggie's cancer support centre! mentioned this hotel. It is a not for profit hotel, supported by the Local Macmillan Cancer charity. As keen travellers our trips have been curtailed by treatment but a good weather forecast and need for quiet and peace meant that within two days we were installed in a wonderful room. Medical registration is needed but completed easily and sensitively. There are a mixture of rooms, from standard to full disabled access and also standard rooms can have useful furniture additions if needed. It is comfortable, a proper seaside hotel. The difference is the quiet reassurance of having really good nurses on site 24/7 as well as the other staff being really good. One of the key things for me is it is a place of fun too, lots of laughs and relaxation. There are lots of lovely places to sit and rest in really comfy chairs. There are also mobility scooters to borrow, books, puzzles, games films to enjoy. A short walk takes you to the east cliff lift and the possibility of walking along the Prom to enjoy the Beach Hut. I was able to rest as much as needed, my husband had time to himself knowing I was safe. The food too, good quality, almost comfort food and again flexible to the needs of the individual. This is a special place for people with life limiting illness, far from being a 'waiting' room it is a place that celebrates the joy of living.

Room Tip: Speak to the staff about your individual needs and they will help you make the right choice. I had a...

We have just come back from our fifth stay at The Grove in just over a year. We have been at all times of the year and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute, no matter what the weather. Just walking through the front door, the stress drops off you. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the food is excellent; if you don't like what is on the menu, just ask for something else and it will be accommodated for. The expertise and level of care given by the staff is second to none. The staff really make this hotel what it is; nothing is too much for them and they are always so cheerful. There is 24 hr care if needed, and all facilities are available 24 hrs a day. If you fancy a beer at 3 am, you can have one (not that I have). The hotel is close to the main shopping center (but not too close), and there are transport links just outside the hotel. There are organised trips, if you want to take them and the special breaks are really good - we did Easter, last year. If you like the theater, there is one less than ten minutes walking distance from the hotel. The Grove is great for patients and carers alike. As a carer myself, this is the only place I can go to where I feel totally at ease, knowing that my wife will be looked after and I can relax and unwind. We both, would highly recommend The Grove Hotel and would like to say a big thanks to all the staff for making us so welcomed.

I’m glad that you and Michelle enjoy your visits to the Grove and managed to get some well-deserved rest. Well, it’s good to know that it was not you up till 3am drinking all our Bulmer’s cider. had a wonderful week staying here, although the weather was awful we had a brilliant stay . Room had everything we needed from electric bed to wet room. Nothing was too much trouble even for a fussy eater, with plenty of ideas coming from the waiting staff. All the food was well presented and enjoyed especially all the effort made for Valentines day. Staff went out of their way to make sure we had a holiday experience, something we were in need of after all the rigours of hospitals and treatments.

We hosted a three day 'Escape' for young adults living with a cancer diagnosis at the Grove. From the planning stages through to the actual weekend event the team have been absolutely brilliant - going out of their way to make sure everything ran smoothly (which it did!). The friendliness of the team is second to none and the quality of the accommodation is fantastic. The on-site nurse cover is unobtrusive and relaxed but you know it's there if you need it. Overall, an amazing place to come and stay and get away from everything whilst knowing that there is support when and if you need it. Thank you thank you thank you!

We came from Austria to see this great place, to get be inspired for a similar idea in Austria.
This hotel is really something special. Friendly Welcome, the staff couldn't have been more friendly, the dinner was delicious. We had a nice cosy room, and a lot of fun at the evening entertainment.

A place to feel good!!! :))
