“VENTANA GRAND CAFE outstanding food and service!”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

we booked late afternoon for an evening meal. they were booked up but still accomodated us. very friendly atmosphere. extremely good service! very clean and lovely lighting/candles etc. our server 'Bishal' was very friendly and courteous. the timing between meals was spot on. and the food was absolutely outstanding. i had the pan fried duck. never had it before but i can't describe how gorgeous it was! we had three courses and every one was perfect! top marks to the chef also! and value for money was brilliant! couldn't have wished for a better last meal at the end of our short break in Bournemouth! would definately recommend this restaurant and would definately go back if we decide to have another break in Bournemouth!gets a 5 star from me!

“A very good dining experience”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Very good menu choices. My wife is a vegetarian and there were at least 3 options for her in each section. And it makes a very refreshing change not to have Goats Cheese in all sections of the menu! Our pet hate in most restaurants. The only puzzle is that none of the deserts stated whether they were vegetarian. Hopefully if the menus get re-printed this can be addressed. The other thing was all the waiting staff (all very good) wore blue jeans. After eating in the hotels other restaurant and seeing all the staff immaculately dressed, it was almost like these staff were dressing down to serve in a more expensive and 'posher' eatery.

“Birthday celebration”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Six of us ate here while staying in the hotel. Although pricey, the food was good and there were few leftovers. They were happy to serve our birthday cake in lieu of desserts and staff were friendly and attentive.

“Birthday dinner with family”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We booked this specially for my husband's birthday on a Monday night in July. I'd been dying to take him and my family here since my friend and I had meal here back in the winter and had a wonderful evening due to the food, service and ambience of the venue in general.
This time it was very different..... we didn't have a good start as we'd booked for 6 and they'd reserved a table for 4, but that was quickly rectified.
Our waitress was obviously new to the job as she kept forgetting things such as her pad and pen and who had ordered what but she was very apologetic and polite.
My starter of squid was chewy and not at all what I would have expected considering the meal I'd had there previously but otherwise we all enjoyed our meals.
Our main complaint was about the lack of attention we received from the waiting staff in general. It took far too long for our plates to be cleared between courses, 4 of our main meals came out together with a wait of well over 5 minutes for the remaining 2 which is quite a while when you are all waiting to start together. We had to ask twice for someone to come and take our dessert order which then took much longer than we would have expected to be served.
Sadly not the fabulous experience that I'd expected based on my previous visit and I am now put off of a return visit. Such a shame.

“Fabulous Anniversary Dinner.”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We went to the Cumberland as we are frequent visitors, and we love the staff here, to celebrate our 33rd Anniversary. We both had Fillet Steak (extravagant but Hey-Ho) and as usual here, it was
5 star perfect, as rare as you can get and hot right through. How do they do that? We will of course just keep coming back here, thoroughly recommended.
