“You get what you pay for”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

The Lodge suited our needs pretty well. For the £50 a night we were paying we certainly didn't expect tea and coffee making facilities, a basin in the room, and a large flat screen television, all a nice surprise. I don't understand the reviews stating that the place is not clean and is dangerous; this is simply not true. The bathrooms were always clean and tidy, and our room was actually cleaned daily when we were staying in it, with our towels replenished.

In terms of location, the Lodge is situated a 30-40 minute walk from the sea front. We didn't mind this too much, but if you have young children, the long walk might be something to consider. In spite of this, it is extremely close to the train station, which was convient for us, and to Asda.

If you do stay at the Lodge and decide to eat out for breakfast rather than opt for the over priced £8.50 per night per head at the Ashleigh (hotel next door) then I fully recommend Chiquittas. It is a small cafe at the end of the road, serving a wide range of breakfast choices. My boyfriend had a Mediterrean Breakfast which was extremely good value.

Perhaps one thing which I think would attract more custom to the hotel would be some sort of self-catering area, where guests can cook and prepare their own food. There is also no communal area, which I didn't expect anyway due to the cheap price.

In terms of security, there is no reception at the hotel and effectively no staff there at all apart from cleaners during the day, as the staff seemed to inhabit the Ashleigh, the hotel next door. There was however a sign outside the hotel saying 'Beware of guard dogs', which was a bit reassuring, even if it was just placed there as a deterrent to any potential intruders.

We stayed there mid week and the hotel was generally quiet, aside from the normal slamming of doors etc. However, with all the stag/hen parties at the weekends, I can imagine it having a completely different atmosphere.

I would return to the Lodge; good value and no fuss.

Thank you for this at this time of the year we have so many people stay and at times we get reviews from people with axes to grind, two recently from the same person!.
As you rightly say, breakfast is available if required at The Ashleigh, next door. There is a choice of cereals, fruit juices, croissants, muffins, yoghurts, fresh fruit, together with a full English breakfast, tea/coffee, and toast. Quite a choice for just £8.95 but we also appreciate that if you're on a budget you can select individual items from the menu at the nearby cafe.
Sorry but we cannot have shown you on the aerial picture the lodge location, it is less than half a mile from the cliff top a 5 to 8 minute walk next time I will show you.
We are upfront and honest about the lodge it is clean good facilities and an absolute bargain, but it is not the Ritz as we take great pains to explain this in its description on the web.
Once again,we thank you for taking the time to leave an honest review.

From outside the house was looking fine but the room was small and dirty it was not clean enough for me. It was also noisy owners and their friends were all the time near the window and made noise at morning and we were really really tired because we just came from airport and then at the morning they started some conversation near window. The hostess woman was not kind at all and she made us to wait room almost one hour even we made reservation on the internet before coming there, that's really rude and that haven't never happened anywhere else to us even I have been in 10 countries before. We thought that there is not shared bathroom.

Again a review from someone who does not appear to have stayed with us, and comments re noise from the owners who are in a differant building ?. No idea what the bathroom reference means and to be honest cannot take this seriously. I will say that this summer the groups at weekends have been very good and so many families have had the benefit of the group rooms for a budget hoilday that it has been a good summer. I am pleased to say a number of the families have returned the next week for another stay, so,again I feel we must be doing something right.

We didn´t get the room that we had received. We got a dirty, noisy room that was so hot we could´t sleep at all. There was no airconditioning. The price was as expensive as some good hotel, but this wasn´t any hotel, but very lowrated bed and breakfast.
We have never seen that kind of lodge. The hostess was nasty and let us waite her almost one hour though we have arrived in good time and we were very tired and wanted to return to rest to our room.

Stayed the night here with my family of 5. Two adults, a 5 year old , a 3 year old and 1 year old. Stayed in room 2, the family room. The room was clean, service good, kids loved it. Cheap and cheerful. Would stay again.

Just come back from a friends hen party and have to say the lodge was a great place to stay we had comftable clean rooms and even had a member of staff knock the door the next morning to see if we would like our room cleaned and clean towels . I would Highly reccomended the lodge for a hen /stag or even a girly weekend away as Close to the town and a cafe opposite for a much needed hungover fry up and the owner ray/Roy was a very nice owner and also helpful when our mini bus would not start LOL .. Thank you again for having us! Thank you from Senay the 28/June hen party girls

It was good to be meeted and greeted in such an efficient and pleasant manner by the owner of the lodge. He explained everything in very plain English which left us all feeling very refreshed, calm and relaxed after a long journey. It was a quick and brief welcome only taking approx. 15 mins and left us all in no confusion about the weekend. The rooms are just what you need for a weekend away but considering 6 lads in a room works out at about £150 quid a night for that room, you do pay or that privilege. For a lads or ladies weekend this hotel is ideal as you are very much left to your own devices after the pleasant welcome. Cleaners need to come round later as they came round every morning when the rooms were full, and parking is not easy. But for a very basic stay this is ideal.

Room Tip: They are all very similar, basic but adequate for a lads weekend away where you spend little time in...

Well glad you had a good time, the "pubs and clubs dos and dont's meet and greet" can take two minutes or 20 all dependant on how much Booze has been consumed on a groups journey to the lodge but with some groups over 20 in number every body needs to know what is acceptable and what is not, so you have a good time but neighbours are not upset.
After 25 years it seems to work as the weekend you visited over half the building was with guests who have been before.
We are upfront and honest and room types and costs are explained at the first contact, numbers in rooms change with extras added but at all times this is sorted with the group leader would have requesedt extra guests if this makes a room tight we always say so.
The Lodge is purpose built for groups and works well, so much so I will not change the formula

We were checking in late but the owner still made sure there was someone around to greet us upon arrival. We were upgraded to an en-suite room at no extra cost, and we were quite surprised at how nice the accommodation was. Everything was clean and tidy, and there was a huge TV in the room. Sadly we had an emergency and had to leave, but thoroughly recommended to anyone who needs cheap/easy accommodation in the area.
