Stayed 2 nights for a wedding anniversary celebration. Had one dinner and two breakfasts, wished we'd done the other dinner too - superb food! Seriously top-notch cooking and slick service. Very reasonable prices at dinner as well. Room was really nicely appointed and well maintained. Hotel interiors in general very stylish. Eco-consciousness in all things a real feature, strongly pursued without being overdone. Staff totally on-the-ball and friendly. Quibble - internal noise from hall and adjoining rooms - quite sleep-disturbing at times. Would/will go back, but will request room on seaward side.

Room Tip: Rooms on the seaward side probably quieter and apparently may have sea views (on upper floors).

The room was clean with nice modern decor. They have lots of energy saving gadgets. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The only downside was the small portions of food that was very good but expensive. One soft drink was £5.50! I'm not sure how they can justify that?

I stayed at the Green House with my 10 year old daughter for a treat as I was taking her to a gig for her birthday. The hotel is lovely - stylish, great eco credentials, great staff, lovely food and feels like home. I really, really want to go again

A very good clean modern central hotel with great service and fantastic food. I have stayed in several hotels in the area and this is the best.

As you will gather from other reviews and the hotel's advertising, it is a stylish 'boutique' hotel.

It is also evangelically 'eco' and tells you so at every opportunity e.g. the beds are handmade from organically farmed natural ingredients and each takes two years to make. I found it rather twee and pretentious but it's hard to criticise a business trying to operate in a green way - and the beds were extremely comfortable.

We were shown to our room (though not offered any help with the bags).

As I've found in similar 'boutique' establishments, style can sometimes have precedence over function. The bedroom was a stylish design, but had only one small drawer for clothes and belongings. The wardrobe had a few hangers. For our one night it was OK but nowhere to put bags or unpack would discourage staying for much longer.

The Ecotopia eco-kettle needed a training session and then managed to splash out the water when it boiled, though it was far from full. It couldn't be refilled from the fixed tap over the shallow wash basin, so one had to use the limited supply of still bottled water, enough for two cups Though the bottled water was free and more could be obtained from reception, but....

On the plus side, I asked reception for some fresh lemon, which I like with my tea, and a plate of nicely arranged slices, each with its own cocktail stick promptly appeared.

The shower was fine, the towels were average bath size but not large. Toiletries are fixed to the wall. You need to study the web site details of the room you are booking quite carefully e.g. you only get bathrobe and slippers if you stay in the larger bedrooms. Perhaps clothes drawers are likewise only available for the well off and those of us in the 'cheaper' rooms are not expected to have many belongings.

The large flat screen TV was fine. Some of the channels listed in the information guide did not match the reality (but that's common in hotels).

The lift is hidden away unsigned and was also unheated and really cold - more eco saving?. When you emerge at ground floor you are faced with a choice of two or three unmarked doors to try to see which leads to the lobby.

The bar has free newspapers.

The dining in the 'Green Room' was excellent. We had the 'taster' menu at £35 and it was really very good in every way. I couldn't fault anything about it. Dining room service was very good in the evening, but quite slow and inefficient at breakfast.

Breakfast was fine.

This review may sound a little picky but with room rates starting at £140, you look at the details.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for.

I recently stayed at the greenhouse for a much needed getaway with my girlfriend for 2 nights. We paid about £130 a night for 2 nights mid week... (Pretty pricey for Bournemouth due to the stiff competition from other hotels) so our expectations were high.

The hotel was nice, the highlight being the friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is nice and close to the sea and town centre. The breakfast is of great quality, and worth waking up to.

However for us the experience was ruined when we came to check out. We woke up to a cold shower with no hot water. We lat the shower run for some time in the hope that the water would warm up... After an argument about how to operate the shower with my less than happy girlfriend, we conceded to having to both of us having to take a cold shower as time was getting on and we had to start our long drive home. We mentioned this to reception when we checked out only to be told that the boiler was out of order, and there was no hot water to be had, however an engineer is trying to put it right... Not much comfort to us now I thought... Nobody let us know this in advance, or called our room to expect a cold shower. We paid our bill with no mention of a discount, and left Bournemouth feeling rather cold and deflated.

A warm shower in the morning is the least I expect at £130 a night. Shame, as it impacted on what would have been a good stay.

I stayed at the Green House on Saturday night since we were exhibiting at their Green Wedding Fayre on Sunday, and found it excellent on every level. It is probably the best hotel I have stayed in the UK, both for holidays and business.
It has a strong ethical and environmental policy, presented in a luxurious way. Since we had our 12 year old with us we were given the Horse Chestnut room which is a large double with sofa bed. The room was stylishly furnished, very clean and well appointed, a luxurious bathroom with a large walk-in shower and free-standing Victorian bath. There were top quality toiletries, delicious home-cooked shortbread biscuits and filtered water already in the room, together with tea and coffee facilities and fresh milk in a fridge outside.
Eco features (that I can remember) included the eco-kettle, low energy lighting, environmentally friendly paints and wallpapers, ash furniture made by craftsmen in Hebden Bridge from sustainably sourced wood.
We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant, absolutely delicious modern food, beautifully presented and using locally sourced ingredients. The only negative was that there was not much choice for vegetarians, which was a little disappointing since we had given advanced notice. Impressive organic wine list. The portions looked a little minimalist, but after 3 courses we all felt satisfied. Breakfast was great with a huge range of cereals, fruit, pastries and cooked meal choices. Staff in the restaurant and bar were attentive and friendly.
There is plenty of free parking and it is only a 10 minute walk to the beach or the main shopping and bar area, as well as a fantastic museum and Art Gallery - Russell-Coates around the corner.
Our weekend at the hotel was a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, friendly, sumptuous and ethical break.
