“Comfortable, well-appointed hotel in prime location.”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

Great location being only a few minutes walk from beach and town centre.

Large secluded garden and well maintained and equipped leisure centre complete with indoor pool. Large breakfast room and equally large comfortable lounge.

Really extensive selection at breakfast – absolutely nothing omitted. We didn’t have the evening dinner option included in our tariff.
In our experience the staff were all friendly and obliging.

Our bedroom was well decorated with easy chairs and a modern bathroom.

The hotel was very clean and the sheets and towels were changed frequently.

However, we thought that the £20 per day car parking charge was excessive. We didn’t like the idea of parking overnight in the public car park across the road, so we hunted around to find free parking in a side-street. It was hassle we could have done without and would willingly have paid nearer £10. Also the drinks in the lounge were slightly overpriced – had they been a little cheaper we would have been tempted to linger longer.

Overall we found it to be a comfortable and relaxing hotel which we would certainly recommend.

Stayed at the Royal Bath with my partner for one night in room 289. Great room with a fantastic sea view. Other than the dodgy lock on the door (it took a few attempts each time to get inside the hotel room), our stay was most pleasant. The room, breakfast, leisure facilities, location, staff and the hotel itself was very nice.

Would recommend and return.

Every house apparently has a "spare" room. Of all the rooms, this one needs redecoration and it's where all the old and unneeded furniture is kept. I've never thought of a hotel having one but, in the case of the Royal Bath, they do - it's room 251, wher my wife and myself spent last Monday night.

At £79, it wasn't the most expensive in the world but this room is deeply depressing. It is in serious need of redecoration and contains an odd mix of furniture, fittings and fixtures. The carpet and curtains come from another age, an oversized chandelier hangs menacingly in the bedroom and the bathroom has, amongst its other faults, a badly rusted handbasin fitting. Some odd thoughts go through your head when allocated rooms like this, such whether HM prisons have rooms like these. It would certainly do on an overflow basis but ythat assumes that it comes up to their standard!

I did tell the receptionist when we checked out but, apart from a sorry, that was it. When I asked what the hotel's policy was on upgrades (or should this be allocation of a half decent room?) I was told that, yes, the hotel did try to upgrade. Why this didn't happen to us when the hotel was at best 25% full was never disclosed. It's all a shame because the hotel does have some excellent staff, particularly the porter at front-of-house and staff in the restaurant and breakfast room.

We certainly won't be returning but the moral of this story is to ask for another room if you are given a sub-standard one. Either that or ask for a refund - there are plenty of hotels in Bournemouth who would welcome the business. I should of course have followed my own advice but next time, I'll be more prepared. It just won't be the Royal Bath that's involved.

We knew that the hotel was in a fantastic location, but we thought that it might be a bit faded because of its age (it was built in the early nineteenth century). We could not have been more wrong. Our room was fantastic - sea view, looked like it had recently been refurbished, with great extras like a BOSE sound system. In addition all of the staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fab.

Room Tip: Se aviews are wonderful.

Stayed here for two nights with my wife. Excellent location with shops, beaches and pier all within walking distance. Staff all very pleasant and helpful, especially Matt, the young maitre D' of the inhouse "Oscar's" restaurant. The room was far too hot even when we turned the radiator off (there were several complaints made to reception about the heat, by various clients during our stay), the sash window was jammed about a third of the way open and due to the noise of traffic and drunken revellers a good nights sleep was unatainable. Drinks in the bar are very expensive (£10 for a glass of Pinot Grigio, which was very nice, none the less), but it is almost worth it to sit in grand room that the bar is....
The Gym and Spa are excellent and we used the pool as well, which was child free and just the right temperature.
Oscars restaurant was a lovely experience, the staff were top notch and a credit to the establishment. Pigeon starters followed by Ribeye and Roast Belly pork with Pain Perdu to follow all delicious.
The Breakfast Buffet was probably the finest we have sampled, it was a good job there was a gym and pool on site and Bournemouths wonderful seafront to go for walks along to burn off the extra colaries consumed!!!!.
Lots of plusses and a few minuses....this is Bourenmouth's oldest Hotel and shows it in a unique manner which should be accepted - don't expect the ultra modern. The staff are wonderful and so is the food....its location could be its own downfall if they don't sort the heating problem out, one should expect a decent nights sleep at the very least when paying De Vere's prices

Room Tip: Sea view, not on the Bath Road side....far too noisy if you have the window open!

This is our third stay at the Royal Bath and once again they have done us proud.from the moment you arrive you are made to feel good with the friendly polite staff going out of their way to help.we usually walk into the town for dinner so I can't comment on the restaurant but the breakfasts are first class with plenty to suit every ones tastes the rooms are very large this time we had a suite overlooking the sea with a super kingsize bed large bathroom and separate drawing room all first class and faultless. Seriously if you want to live like a lord and lady without it casting the earth this is the place to come well done Royal Bath
