“Could do better!”

We stayed here for two days as part of a national conference. I was concerned having read previous reviews although I have to say that the hotel wasn't as bad as I feared. The public areas were fine and comfortable and there was a large selection available for the buffet breakfast. Our room (217 in the west wing) had been refurbished recently but after this things were not so good. The room was very cold and condensation formed on the windows leaving a damp atmosphere. When I informed reception that the radiators were not working I was told that the heating in the hotel had been turned off for the summer. Note that this was 27th April! There was also a lot of noise in the room from the banging of corridor doors at all hours. Car parking is very expensive at £20/day and is much cheaper in the public car park next door and I really think that asking people to check out by 10 on a Sunday is an outdated hotel practice. The hotel is trying to improve standards but it needs to try harder to meet contemporary expectations.

Room Tip: The executive rooms overlooking the sea and garden were lovely and worth spending the extra on.

We have just returned from a three night stay at this hotel and can only describe it as disappointing.

Parts of the hotel itself are in need of serious refurbishment - it just looks tired and out of date. Our supposedly "executive" room was not up to the standards of a basic room in most hotels and I hate to think of what we would have had if we had not upgraded. Stories of "put up" beds and rooms too small to swing a cat in were common amongst our fellow travellers.

We were attending a conference that was booked over 12 months ago, yet the hotel seemed unprepared and ill equipped for the influx of guests. A half hour wait for a drink at the bar was not uncommon and some of the members of staff lacked even basic levels of courtesy.

The standard of the breakfast was poor - we struggled to get a cup of tea or coffee, the croissants were bullet proof and the black pudding and sausages had been incinerated.

All in all the hotel was very disappointing - I would try the new Premier Inn only a stones throw away if I was to return again.

Room Tip: Sea View Executive Rooms are better but beware creaky floor boards!

Nice hotel although quite old fashioned, but took 10 minutes or more to find our room, staff were very nice but food not so good. Wanted to eat in Oscar's Restaurant (fine dining) but couldn't because we hadn't booked although hadn't been asked at Reception if we wanted to. The restaurant wasn't full, far from it, but the 'chef needs to know how many people he will be catering for' we were told!!! Ate in the Brasserie instead but food wasn't very good and had to keep waiting for buffet to be replenished. Too many additional charges (charge for using debit card as well as credit card, charge for using swimming pool and facilities) when this is not a cheap hotel in the first place.

Room Tip: Rooms with sea view are quieter and overlook the gardens as well.

Ok, although we booked an executive room a year ago when we got here we were given a standard room. The manager, Brian explained that they always over sell each type of room and it normally works out. Glynis explained that we take it or have a refund and go elsewhere. We were told that we could have a refund of the charge of our standard room against what we had already paid for our executive room, aren't we the lucky ones. We found that we were ok having a shower so long as no one else wanted a shower at the same time. Dreadful hotel. Don't stay here, they haven't figured out the idea of customer service.

I was very surprised to read some of the reviews on here our experience couldn't have been more different. We have just returned from a 2 day break in Bournemouth and found the hotel staff to be very accommodating (we had booked to stay in the Wessex Hotel but were so appalled we checked out immediately and walked in to the Royal Bath)

The porter was very helpful, the lady on reception gave us a lovely large room on the 3rd floor with sea views which was beautiful. I do agree with some of the comments about the breakfast, the fruit was most definitely tinned and the fry up was swimming in oil but it was replenished quickly and topped up right until the end when breakfast had finished. Tea and coffee was plentiful and served to the table.

Hotel location is fantastic, right on the sea front with beautiful gardens to wander round if you're lucky enough for pleasant weather!

The only downside is the payment for using the swimming pool and spa area, I have never stayed anywhere that you are required to pay for the facilities, I think its abit unfair to boast the hotel has them on their website if you have to pay to use them. £1 to use a towel is also quite unfair, if we had known we'd have brought the ones from our room!

All in all a lovely hotel definitely worth a visit!

Room Tip: Have one of the older rooms with a sea view. The newer rooms are very small (so the lady on receptio...

We stayed at the Royal Bath a few years ago for a special event and decided to revisit to celebrate another event. Times have changed. It seems the Royal Bath is now under new ownership. Well, they need to set up a serious staff training programme.
The hotel has lovely grounds and we enjoyed our break but there were so many small issues with the hotel. Staff seemed uninterested at best. This was once the jewel hotel in Bournemouth. Unless serious management step in to sort things out is likely to go down hill very quickly. Shame.

Having stayed at the hotel before and having an excellent room we had no reason to doubt it for this stay. How wrong we were. We hadn't realised that it was no longer owned by De Vere Group but by Britannia Group who unfortunately appear to have let standards drop. The room was small, the windows, old sash type, couldn't be regulated they were either wide open or shut. The bed was certainly past its best as it sagged to the middle. The bathroom whilst reasonably clean was a very odd shape and the water in the hand held shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold making it impossible to use meaning the fixed shower was the only alternative. Breakfast was very disappointing the 'fresh' fruit appeared to be tinned, the fruit juices were not chilled and there was very little alternative choice to the cooked breakfast which was decidedly average. Disappointing that there was a charge for leisure facilities which were previously free. The hotel is in a great location but is decidedly run down.
