We first noticed that the porter was very helpful although a few negative comments were over come by very good recommendations. We were quite happy with our room, the view over the gardens and sea was lovely, shame that the windows were crudely screwed up with no air con when the weather is lovely, no help at all from Maintenance they never came after us calling for assistance to open windows, reception staff diabolical she didn't like to be questioned about hotel related things, and others were unhelpful. Oscars restaurant and Sabrina were very good a saving grace, Bar closed too early residents were still sitting there drinking,
Staff need a moral boost, comments like, there chasing me up, and a a lot of staff say" its not my rule its the hotels" should not be said to customers when things are queried. Reception and housekeeping were unobtainable by phone.
The pool charge of £4 and a further £1 to use a towel is disgraceful but "its the hotel policy"
Breakfast was good and a jug of tea a nice touch.and being able to take your tea out to the terrace after eating was good.
People should note that this is an 1830s building so floors may creak , carpets etc could be maintained though and the plumbing is in dire need for an upgrade, water is either Hot or cold no in between even with mixers.

Room Tip: Ensure that it is a larger room at the rear of hotel with garden sea view, traffic noise at front of...

Stayed at the hotel with my partners young son. Our room was more like a cave - newly built in the basement with a view of a wall, no double glazing which rattled every time cars, lorries and busses passed - which us frequent. Queued for ages to check in, there were people complaining the entire time. The two receptionists looked stressed and ignored the phones which rang and rang and rang. Went to our room,no towels, awful room tried to call reception - of course they don't answer! Went down stood in the queue and explained, was told we could not move rooms as the hotel was full and extra towels were promised and delivered. The room was large it's just dingy, dark and the toilet floor had clearly never been cleaned! We then went for a swim only to be told that swimming is an extra 4.00 per person and towels 1.00 per person! Who charges people to swim ???? We ate breakfast which was good and plentiful, tea was harder to come by since the staff (it appears) do not know how to boil a kettle and just simply gave us (and many others) a recycled tea pot!
Shame this was a lovely quality de vere hotel now it's a dumpy hotel whose main customers seem to be stag and birthday parties!
Would I recommend anyone staying here ? No way !! Go to one of the many, many other hotels in bournemouth.
Shame to see this once gorgeous hotel in declined :(

After spending £129 for a double room only, we were expecting something special especially for the four star review this hotel is meant to have. My partner checked us in before I arrived and was totally disappointed that it took almost 40 minutes to find our room due to the bad signage, on finally finding our room, we found it to be a total let down, a small boxy room was what we found, with no windows only a skylight, the floor of the bathroom was filthy and stained, the door handle on the inside of the bathroom was broken and the lock for the door was damaged and falling out. After voicing our issues to the manager on duty we were offered complimentary breakfasts for the morning.

We felt this hotel is totally over priced for the room we received and would not chose to stay here again!

We have been regular visitors to the Royal Bath now for over a decade and felt it necessary to give an update following our last stay over Easter 2014. The hotel changed hands last year and it has been for the better! The hotel has an excellent location on the East Cliff of Bournemouth with just a very short walk to the Beach. Prior to the take-over the restaurant was not fully utilised, particularly in the evenings and we always used to eat out. However, things have improved and good value buffet meals are available in the evenings as well now. The hotel rooms are a little tired in terms of decor but are excellent value. There is a good bar/lounge area and very nice gardens to relax in. It is now highly recommended.

Room Tip: Just avoid the "cosy" rooms.

We stayed only one night at the Royal Bath, following a week's holiday in Guernsey. We selected the hotel for its good value and location near the seaside in Bournemouth. The hotel is rather rambling with charming rooms, if a bit in need of updating. We were upgraded to a big corner room with lawn and sea views, which were beautiful, and the room itself was plenty comfortable for us. If your room doesn't come with breakfast, ask for the add-in, as it was only 7 pounds and very well worth it. This hotel is steeped with history, dating back to Queen Victoria's coronation, and it was a favorite of author Oscar Wilde. The main lobby is a lovely place to sit and read or just relax. We would go back.

Room Tip: Garden side rooms have sea views and are quiet, off the road.

We stayed at this hotel from 27th to 29th May 2014. management had turned off the central heating so public rooms & our bedroom was chilly. We did get a portable heater for the bedroom otherwise it would have not been comfortable. The room 571 itself was a good size & a window to the sea. Unfortunately condensation between the double glazing obscured what would have been a nice view. The bathroom was was a good size but hardly any hot water from the sink tap. The shower was fine though. A safety hand grab rail for the shower would be helpful. The food in the self service restaurant was adequate but bot spectacular and again suffered from not being kept hot. We had to ask for the soup to be re heated which was done thanks to Alex the Maitre D.
Car parking at hotel was expensive @ £20 per night & the porter had to park for us. In the morning due to lack of staff, to retrieve ones car there was a delay of up to 15 minutes. 2 of the local public car parks were closed on 27th so the hotel could have made a concession. The public park charges £12.50 anyway. Due to these problems I would not stay there again. Of course if you don't go by car that matter is not a problem. Brian M.

Where do I start? Staff very unhelpful but if you need to find some, just exit the main door and 2 metres on the left, you will find 2-4 of them smoking. The room we booked, was called a Club Room. It was the sise of a broom cupboard. Upon checking with reception to see if I was allocated the wrong room, I was informed that Club Rooms were smaller than the Standard Rooms. The television was not working and could not be fixed by the member of staff that eventualy arrived. It was a very cold May night and we found out that there has been no central heating for months. A mobile oil fired electric one was brought after 4 phone calls and a march to reception. The poor girl who brought the radiator was almost in tears, stateing that she had to visit 17 more rooms to address all of the varios complaints. My stay was a bank holiday weekend, so I paid a lot more than the average rates. Even so, it would not be value for money if I had only paid half the amount.
