“Scruffy noisy hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2013

Very tired decor, frayed and torn carpets, particularly on stairs and in the breakfast room. Tasteful silver duct tape carpet repair outside our room. Direct view of the opposite hotel which likewise looked straight into our window which did not have net curtains and our main curtains were flimsy and didn't stretch right across. The bedroom wall had dents in it and the en-suite was tiny – a passage less than 30” across with corroded pipes and amateurish, incomplete grouting. ( Photos attached) Bigger people beware! Reasonable fittings poor workmanship, get the impression refurbishing on the cheap. Despite the brochure promise of free parking £5 per night and we never did find the health club. The plastic tablecloth in the breakfast room was stained although the waiter did brush a few crumbs of it with the back of his hand. We were kept awake from 5 a.m. by a conversation from the next room clearly heard through the paper thin walls.
On the credit side a good location and quite a good breakfast. The reception staff were friendly, but then they are supposed to be. The bedroom was reasonably comfortable.
Not good for the less agile, not far from things, but steep hill to return from town centre.

Ive been to this hotel 6 times in the last 9 years and have given it favourable reports. After a 3 year break i returned last week to find it had changed hands .Same old hotel as before a bit tired and in need of a make over but was acceptable for the needs of our group of Golfers. What wasn`t acceptable was being charged for parking £5 a night ,this was blatent profitering and easy money .In the rear carpark people were getting blocked in and even though the owners helped with whose vehicles were causing the obstruction trying to locate the said owners was a mare !!
Next point was we were informed on route that they had doubled booked and would 4 of our 12 strong party mind sharing a room ,OK we thought if it would help ,a 4 bedroom room would be tight but we could manage,on arrival the room was a double i had stayed in before but with a bunk bed and 2 singles ,this was for 4 adults !! to rub salt in the wound the Vacancy sign said rooms to let ,which we checked by ringing the hotel to be told how many !!! This is now a Stag and Hen party Hotel and would think twice about using it which is a shame.

Room Tip: across the road in another hotel

Having read some of the reviews I was rather apprehensive as to what we might find. However despite the hotel being in need of some upgrading which is ongoing I was pleasantly surprised. I would like to thank Matt, his family and staff or making our stay most welcoming. The room we had was average sized but adequately equipped and very clean. Food was limited but superbly cooked and the breakfast buffet was excellent. Parking was chargeable but at £5 per day&night was value for money. Local car parks were charging almost triple this as we were so close to the beach. I would definitely go back.

Great hotel, SO close to the beach, staff were so helpful and made you feel really welcome.
We eat in the restaurant both nights and breakfast was really nice as well.
Rooms are basic but clean and spacious.
Would go back again.

Location only 4min walk to the beach,6min walk to the pier.8min to the town centre & bars.. The hotel from the outside is looking tired,on entering friendly staff,my room was on the 4h floor, only lift to the 3rd floor, than stairs up to my room, which was ok,a bit on the small side, but i had a sea view, room was cleaned to a good standard, no bath, but had shower, plenty of hot water. tv was on the small side.Car park to the rear, you have to pay a surcharge for parking at weekends. The price i paid was very good. The hotel is rated as a 2 star, which i feel is jusified.Check out time is early at 1030am..

Bourne Hall Hotel
My, wife and I and two friends of ours visited this hotel on 05 and 06 July, we were on a living social deal. I must start by saying that at £99 (plus £20 supplement) for 2 nights BB&EM it was a bargain. First impressions were that it looked a little tired, unkempt and generally in need of some investment. That said, the rooms were adequate, sheets were clean and it had everything you needed for a 2 night stay. We were a little surprised that we had to pay £10 for 2 night’s car park. The car park area does needs addressing, especially for paying guests. The problem is that it is a bit of a free for all, and so a few cars get blocked in. The food was basic stuff, with a lovely crumble on offer for desert.
On this weekend there was a convention on for “cheer leaders”, as a result the hotel was busy with lots of young girls running around. On the first evening my wife tried to call reception to ask if they could stop the dreadful noise on our level. Girls were laughing, screaming, running around and slamming doors. After 45 minutes of this and no answer from the 24 hour reception, so I got dressed and went into the corridor. I could not believe my eyes; every room door was open, girls running around with no consideration for others and no obvious supervision. I asked them to be quiet and then an “adult” showed her face to say she will put them to bed.
I thought it wise to inform reception about the situation, just in case it started up again, what a mistake that was…..The night porter was of no use what so ever, he was not in reception, so that explains why there was no answer, but behind the bar serving the parents of the noisy kids. He actually told me he would evict me from the hotel if I swore at him again. My crime was to say “have you any idea of the “bloody” noise that there is on the second floor?

The next morning I met the lady owner of the hotel, she was charming and apologetic about the night porter. She went on to say that other complains had been passed onto the organisers and again apologised. In short new owners, they are finding things a bit hard and perhaps bitten off more that they can chew. However, good luck to them and I hope all works out well.
