“Will definitely return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

We stayed 4 nights over a long weekend in an Executive sea-view room with big balcony. Room was enormous with all facilities and was very clean but decor needs updating next time it is done. Free wifi is essential for me and worked well on all our devices. Our room was immediately over the bar which was not a problem except for when staff turned up the ceiling speakers without realising. Not a problem mid-afternoon. More of a problem when it woke us at 1.15 a.m. They were quick to apologise and turn the music down both times.
The Restaurant is excellent. Very well managed with efficient, professional staff who are always pleasant. The food is excellent too - very enjoyable, plenty of choice, and tasty. We've got good appetites but could only manage two courses - if you like deserts you need to miss the starters. Breakfast had a huge choice of food which never appeared to 'have been there ages'.
All staff were professional, helpful, and very pleasant including the lady who cleans the lounges each day. We never saw a queue at reception as that was very efficient too.
Free car parking is good with plenty of space and ready access to the inside of the hotel.
Was everything we hoped for and we will definitely return as soon as we can.

When seeing the lovely room we were given, I presumed that it would be a lovely stay, we were wrong. The dinner was tiny and to be honest, tasteless. When finishing the desert, you are left clueless as to whether they are going to take coffee out in the lounge or not. At breakfast the waitress took us over to our table, asked if we wanted a drink and that was it. Nothing about telling us what to do, buffet, order from her etc. it was all rather awkward for us. We ordered a sandwich for lunch and the portion was tiny, the crusts are cut off so you are left with a minuscule taster of a sandwich. While this was happening all we heard was Phil Collins on repeat throughout the whole stay, yes the whole time we were there thats all we heard. Coming down for breakfast again we were actually told off by a member of staff for not coming through the correct door. However the other door was locked so we had no choice. There was a wedding at the time we were there, we were actually told mid-lunch to move and sit into the tiny bar to make way for the wedding. This is not what we expect from a 4 star hotel. It is all rather disappointing to see such a nicely positioned hotel to be staring 3 star rating in the face. I have actually stayed at far better 3 star hotels than this 4 star. The key to improving this hotel would be to completely reshuffle the staff in the restaurant and hire people with a personality.

we went for our easter break from fri to sunday .when we arrived we were met with the usual your rooms not ready but luckily we were sorted after an hour and we were treated to two lovely rooms one of which was for our son.the rooms were brilliant but thats prob where the good finished.this is a four star hotel and the majority of the staff were ignorant.we were told to enter the restaurant via the bar and were told of when we used the other entrance.we were looking forward to our easter eggs on sunday big mistake easter was never mentioned .we went to other hotels for coffee and easter was prevalent ,the hotel had two cds one phil collins for breakfast and opera for dinner.we heard them for three days nonstop, the restaurant food was very poor and very small portions im afraid.the hotel itself was very clean and in a prime position .if it ever warrants a four star i would return but they need a lot of changes.did we really just have easter?

Room Tip: choose higher rooms to cut out the wedding noises.

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. The Staff were professional, kind and very helpful. We were directed to our room and shown the facilities. The view from the room was superb. We enjoyed the lounges, and spa area and found the whole experience, relaxing, welcoming with 5* service. I would recommend this hotel everytime. We had a lovely time and cant wait to return. Special thanks for Kim and Robert on reception who went out of their way to accomodate us and to the Spa staff who were kind and friendly. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Room 215- great views of the sea. A quiet room and spacious.

Booked hotel through booking.com was slightly surprised had to pay room rates upon arrival but paid anyway. Asked if we could have room with sea view and was told that normally this is not possible but he can today. Room 110 was fantastic, spacious, warm, lovely bathroom, comfy bed, amazing view and balcony. Didn't eat in hotel in evening as very expensive but had breakfast next morning. Was a lovely selection cereals, juices, porridge, croissant, pastries etc. My partner had the fried breakfast however told me was lukewarm and tasted like been sat a while. Breakfast staff were attentive and friendly. Too cold to use outdoor pool, indoor small but nice. Jacuzzi great as was sauna (except for strange man sleeping in sauna!) wouldn't say this was a spa hotel but the facilities are much appreciated. Not so modern but that wasn't a problem. Car park was difficult to find initially but when found had no problems. Overall great location overlooking sea, near town and pier. Helpful staff, comfortable rooms and nice breakfast would definitely recommend!

We just celebrated my daughters wedding at the Carlton, The hotel and staff were brilliant. They cleared the reception before the bride arrived, so we didn't have to fight our way in. The food was excellent, served quickly well presented and hot. The room we hired (the Meyrick suite) was a good size and looked good for the ceremony the wedding breakfast and the evening party. The managers were always keeping an eye on proceedings and everything ran smoothly. Can not thank the team enough. Would certainly recommend the Carlton for any occasion and certainly for weddings
