We took our granddaughter for a half term break at this 4 star!! hotel
The hotel was a little "tired" but the staff were helpful and attentive, but our stay was ruined by the walk in shower pumping what I thought was raw sewage up the plug hole into the bed room. When we reported this to the reception the first thing they said was they did not have another room, this was then changed to an available room but no bed fi

We went to this hotel for 3 nights to spend our 45th wedding anniversary, and choose it because we understood, from the on-line advertising that it had recently been refurbished. It was also advertised as a 4 star. The room we were given was massive and nicely furnished, but one electrical point was dangerously loose. The bathroom was large, but the bath had black mould behind the taps, the bidet taps were green with verdigris, the sink taps were ancient and the light fitting and towel rail had rust breaking through the chrome plating. Also the extractor fan had to be switched on from a switch on the ceiling! When on, it made a dreadful thumping noise. Next morning I took down a list of the faults in the room and the duty manager, Natalie immediately swept into action. She came upstairs to look at the room and agreed it was unacceptable. However, it was the last available room in the hotel. Within minutes she had found us a room with a sea view in their sister Menzies hotel next door if we wanted it. She took us over to look at it and whilst not as large as the previous room, it was very acceptable. Natalie Also knocked £50 of our bill and paid for the drinks we had had the previous night. She also made certain to come over to our table on our 45th anniversary dinner, just to make sure it all was ok. We finished up having a wonderful break and my 3 stars is an average of 2 for the first hotel room and 4 for the second hotel room. I should add that we continued to eat at the Carlton because the food was very good. Natalie is a lady who did an excellent job of redeeming an initially poor situation. WELL DONE NATALIE!!!

Stayed for 1 night in the superior room with ocean view. Could not fault the hotel at all, feels quite grande inside, staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Room was very clean, comfortable, spacious with a small balcony, which allowed us to take in the stunning view. Good selection of food at breakfast, both continental and English available. Also very useful was free parking (which they allowed us to leave our car at after we had checked out, so we could walk into the town centre again - which is just a 10 minute walk along the seafront), plus free wi-fi.

Didn't get a chance to use the spa facilities, but definitely will do the next time we visit!

Room Tip: Choose the superior room with ocen view

We stayed here for the Air Show weekend in a sea facing room and it felt quite perfect - fantastic view of the air show, good (reasonably priced for a 4 star) food, warm outdoor pool when you fancied a dip , easy walk into town and free parking. I do have to say that our room was expensive but we came away thinking it was money well spent. We have stayed at the Carlton before (but not in the summer) and it is a Victorian hotel with spacious corridors and a grand dining room. It was very busy when we visited - and we did notice that cheaper sausages were used at breakfast on the Suday - (I just want the kitchen to know that we do notice these things) - we eat in the restaurant one night and enjoyed the food. Check out on the Sunday morning could have been more efficient

Room Tip: Sea views make all the difference

Visited here last week - the hotel is remarkably clean and the room was spacious but the bathroom left an awful lot to be desired. It was clean, but definately needed to be replaced - the taps had lost all of their colour - the grout behind the taps was discoloured. Certainly not what I expect to see in a 4 star hotel!
The staff were all very helpful and friendly, breakfast was great - plenty of choice and very hot.
The location is great and the pool and gardens are a bonus!
I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel - just slightly disappointed at the bathroom.

We have owned timeshare here for some years and it works very well with a Director and committee (of owners) having masses of relevant experience. We paid a levy along with the Menzies group to upgrade the apartments over the last five years and they are almost complete. There is still ongoing refurbishment needed, but this will be done on a replace when needed basis. The RCI Gold Crown is now back and the apartments are large and comfortable. We have use of the hotel facilities and the most wonderful view imaginable from the higher floors (the sixth being the penthouses). Whatever the weather we always love our stay and there is so much to do round and about with one of the best beaches in the UK and some great places to eat. We first stayed in the hotel a couple of times before buying the timeshare and the staff were very pleasant and we find the restaurant food much better in the last few years. Worth a visit to see for yourselves.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must.

Best holiday ever, spent in the uk.
The staff couldn't do enough for us all.
Services given and on offer, along with the choices of food, are all above first class.
Rooms were fantastic, spacious and exceptionally clean.

The Menzies Carlton hotel, would be our first choice, for a holiday in the uk.

Cannot wait to go back

Thanks to all the staff for making it our special loving family experience

Regards

Nigel
