Best Western Plus The Connaught Hotel
Ranked #2 of 66 Hotels in Bournemouth
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 June 2012

Visited last year and was very impressed. This year I stayed in the Lodge, a large building next to the hotel. Reception was friendly and efficient. My single room was compact but had everything I required .As a tea drinker I was particularly impressed by the fact that a teapot was supplied. There was also a maintenance card to report any defects which I thought demonstrated a determination to provide a quality service. The room was immaculate and the Lodge was nice and quiet.
Breakfast was served in a large roomy dining area - the choice of hot food was impressive and of good quality. Staff were excellent and on hand to assist with serving from the hot plates if necessary.
This must be one of the best hotels in Bournemouth and I look forward to returning next year.

Stayed here for a week recently on our visit to the UK and cannot recomend it highly enough. The staff were friendly welcoming and helpful. The free Wi-Fi is a fantastic "Bonus" while staying here and really saved me a lot of money while roaming. The breakfast was wonderful and the choice was hughe. The rooms were a little on the small size (understandable as its an old building) considering we booked a "Superior" room but were still fine. Bathroom was good size with a Shower and Bath. One thing that I would recomend to managment would be Air Conditioning as the room was unbearably hot even with the balcony door open during the night. The car park is very small and the spaces are tight. I didnt use the Spa but it seemed to be nice and was certainly popular, I did use the pool located down stairs.

Room Tip: Book a superior room of possible as they have a balcony.

Dear Medoc

Thank you for the "Great" 5 star review which is most appreciated. A/C in a hotel of this age with our different floor levels is a very difficult project to undertake but it is being looked at - ithas been installed in parts of the Spa and Leisure Club and two of the meeting rooms so progress is definitely being made.

Best wishes and thank you again

My family and I spent 2 nights at this hotel in two rooms, one double and one twin. I travel a lot and prefer to stay in 4*, sometimes 5* hotels, but chose this one as rooms were available over the jubillee bank holiday, and it had a spa and pool if the weather was naff. I am so glad I did stay here, it was equally the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in (the other being a 5*).Both rooms and bathrooms were immaculate, as was the whole hotel, everywhere I looked was spotless. The bed was lovely and comfy. All the staff throughout the hotel were genuinely happy and friendly. They were all so helpful and professional. The food was great in the restaurant and the lounge area. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. I made full use of the pool and spa facilities, the hotel has one of the best steam rooms I`ve ever been in.

The hotel is an old building with history, which means that all the rooms are different shapes and sizes, because it is so well cleaned and maintained it adds to its already plentiful character and charm as do the wonderful staff. Well done.

Dear Nina

Thank you for your massive vote of confidence - a brilliant review!! When all the works are finished to the common areas - just the reception and bar to do now - we may well apply for the 4 star rating!!

Best wishes and thank you.

We had a hen weekend this weekend 9-11 June 2012 for 22 ladies. We stayed in the lodge next door which I believe was a sensible option considering the type of group we were having a hen weekend, which can be over excitable. The rooms were very comfortable, and the service of the staff was excellent. The hotel could not have been more accommodating for us, and the staff made our stay so much more enjoyable. The spa was excellent, and there is definately no shortage of things to do with the fantastic array of facilities at the hotel. The food was excellent, buffet style breakfast is always so much better allowing everyone to relax and help themselves to exactly what they like from yoghurt and fruit to cereals toast and cooked full english. We also had a dinner in the restaurant on the Saturday night which was also excellent. I would definately recommend this hotel, and will definately come back and stay with my husband and family.

Had a very good few days break there. Very friendly helpful staff who (when we were their) always had time to talk to the guests and help in any way. I believe this is 3 star but have been in 4 star that are not as good as this. Recommend this hotel certainly for a short break. Good breakfast, good food in the restaurant in the evening. Nice pool.

Stayed for 3 nights in a superior double. Room was small. Huge bed (2 singles put together) which was very comfy. Noisy at night. People outside & in, doors banging, traffic etc. Breakfast was average. Staff were lovely. Car park is quite small. Limited spaces. Would I stay here again? Probably not. I'd prefer somewhere with a sea view.

Dear Debzy

Thank you very much for your review. We do have two car parks, one at the main entrance to the hotel and one in front of the Lodge, totalling 66 spaces in all - far more than the majority of Bournemouth hotels and FREE!! We are about 300m from the cliff tops - just a short stroll away.

Best wishes and thanks again

I visit Bournemouth for business at least once a fortnight. This is the first time in two years a hotel has phoned me in advance to check they could satisfy my mobility requirements. Lifts to everywhere. Leisure facilities has steps into the pool that area easy to use and with handrails. Other hotel services up to and exceeded expectations. Staff very attentive and helpful. This will now be my routine hotel in Bournmouth. Two tiny gripes - small ensuite, which is OK but the full size sink took up half the available space. I could not actually fit past the sink to get in the shower - but then not everyone is as big as me. No discount rate offered for having a double room for single occupancy. As a business traveller this is one of the first things I look for. I am after all just having one breakfast and there is just one of me using the leisure facilities. A special mention for Sam at reception who was so very kind and pleasant on the phone [performance bonus deserved I suggest].
