The title sorta sums up the experience here...

First off, the location. It would have been nice if the GPS had a clue that the hotel was on the right, not the left, as the sign is hidden when approaching from the A338 and round-abouts, but I did figure that out. It is a cute little property, nicely maintained, squeaky wooden floors, but very clean. The location is superb...2 blocks from the channel and the overlook cliff. You just couldn't beat that area, AND it was walking distance from some restaurants and pubs.

The elevator accommodated 2 people. On paper it sounded good, but add your luggage and then it was just you. Do not enter the elevator if you have claustrophobia.

The restaurant in the hotel was good enough on it's own. I had a few nights dinners in house and enjoyed the quality of the food and the exemplary service. The Duty Manager Alan was very experienced and a helpful in making guests feel at home.

The room was an ok size, and had a bathroom of also decent size. Although the hotel did NOT have Air Conditioning, the wind during my stay was awesome, and leaving the windows open at night was more than adequate to cool off the room and provide fresh night breezes (O that wonderful air). The radiator in the room had an adjustment knob that I could turn down or off the heat that came on variously during the night. I turned it off, as the outside wind was mild and the hotel was very insulating as it stood. The bathtub was the old style of a 3 foot high step up into a narrow slippery tub and then try to not let the shower curtain wrap around you as you showered. Ugh, I hate those old death trap tubs. Other than that, the bathroom was very clean and large enough to mitigate the tub based annoyance factor. I did like the hot rail to keep the towels warm.

So where were the washcloths (facecloths)? Well, the short answer is they don't have any. Just bath towels and hand towels. I made do with just extra hand towels, but even so wished I had the smaller towel as most hotels do for washing.

Now for the bed. It had two twin bed box springs bolted together to form a large bed. Thing is tho, the mattresses were two twin mattresses, which you could awesomely feel at their hard edges under the thin king size mattress pad. So now you could sleep in one twin or the other, and you would roll into the center of either, as the beds had a huge dimple in the middle. You sunk into the darn thing, literally. Which was hard on your back, but also hard on the body were the buttons on the old mattresses that poked up thru that thin mattress pad into your body all night. Ouch! I slept on and sunk into both side of the bed and each one left my back sore in the morning. Attention management...time to replace the bed in room 200 please!

Customer service was splendid tho and I would go back to the hotel when in the region.

Room Tip: End of hall rooms are nice and definitely facing the channel if you like wind at night

Thank you for your kind review - compliments indeed especially from such a prolific and well travelled Top Contributor. I am sorry you missed the notice in our guest directory that face clothes are available on request. The chef James Ringsell was delighted with your praises for his cuisine and Alan appreciated the mention -thank you.
I do hope you will come visit us again and in the meantime wish you safe travel

A great hotel in a great location. With friendly welcoming staff. The room was lovely. Tastefully decorated, with a large comfy bed, lovely ensuite facilities. A great breakfast served by exceptional friendly staff. All in all a great experience for our two day break, wish we had stayed longer. We will definitely be staying there again.

Stayed at Hotel Royale when doing the Bournemouth Marathon and had a wonderful time. From booking via Julia who sent me a good luck card at reception to all the reception and restaurant/bar staff the welcome was second to none. Particularly Desmond at the breakfast who ran it in a professional and very orderly manner. The breakfast was superb with the food trays being stocked up all the time. Plenty of selection for all tastes. Family room was nice and quiet on 3rd floor which is what I requested. Very clean and bathroom spotless. Cleaners are very good. Only criticism was the shower pressure was not good. Also wi-fi was not available in the room. Apart from that had a great stay. Nice walk to the beach and into the town. Sun shone all weekend so everyone was happy. Did marathon and had a dip in the hotel pool at the back which was refreshing. Would definitely come again.

Stayed with my Sister for a 2 night midweek stay. Very convenient for train station, we easily walked to the hotel with our trolley suitcases. Excellent location, beach just around corner and town a nice stroll away. All staff that we came into contact with were helpful and friendly. Breakfast could not be faulted, the cooked items from the hot trays where just that hot! and were quickly replenished when needed. Our twin room was at the front of the hotel it was clean and well furnished and as shown in the picture on Best Western's website. Will stay again.
