“Disappointed in room”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014

We booked this hotel as part of a break in England and arrived anticipating the standard of accommodation we have come to expect from Best Western only to be let down. The room we were originally allocated was small, shabby and did not greet us as being fresh. The Receptionist rang to see if all was okay and I said that we weren't. She seemed to do her best by showing us two alternate rooms, one of which I accepted because, although still small, it appeared to be brighter. However, the television was placed high on the wall, making it difficult to see easily, the double bed was uncomfortable, wardrobe space was very limited and there was only one easy chair in the room. The water for the bath or shower was not very warm , probably due to the room being on the third floor and this may have been better in the lower rooms. As others have said, the walls are quite thin and noises do travel .

We ate in on our first evening , the food was lovely and the complimentary wine with a two course meal was appreciated , breakfast was satisfactory and the staff were pleasant .

As the car parking charge was for charity, we did not mind paying this .

We weren't asked at checkout whether things had been okay so didn't get a chance to mention about the room. I can appreciate that there are likely to be small rooms in older hotels but, on a three night stay we would have expected better accommodation.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room.

I was sorry to read of your disappointment in the room you stayed in during your recent stay at the hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies and as you say not all the rooms in the hotel can be large and airy and since we were extremely busy it was an impossible task for the receptionist.
With sincere apologies and kind regards

As 'good value' goes, you can't grumble about the Hotel Royale.

A good size room, with double bed for mum and dad, and bunk beds for the children, including breakfast - on our stay, the rate card value was £78 for the night, without any discounts or offers applied.

The hotel includes leisure facilities with swimming pool and a spacious and welcoming bar, and all the staff we dealt with were friendly and accommodating.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and the rooms include tv, alarm clock and tea/coffee making facilities.

All in all, for a family on a one night stop over for a wedding, a great place.

But I always feel cheated when hotels charge for guests to park a car, in the hotel's own car park!

The Hotel Royale has a gated car park to its premises and it's only £2 a night to park but, if they must charge, it would be much more palatable if they built the fee in to the room rate.

There are numerous signs in the bedrooms and at reception that inform our guests that the profits from the car parking charges go to a local children's hospice (Julia's House) that caters for children with life limiting conditions. I will gladly refund the £2.00 since it appears to have spoiled your stay. Other than that you appear to have been more than happy with the other other elements of the hotel and I do appreciate you mentioning them.
Kind regards

I never normally write reviews but I am so impressed with the service I have received I think the staff deserve to be acknowledged for their brilliant customer service.
Especially the older lady on reception who checked us in, she was so friendly and went above and beyond to ensure we were settled and had everything we needed.

The room was very clean and spacious and the check out time wasn't too early which is good.

The breakfast was lovely, great value for money. We didn't have dinner at the hotel but the menu did look very nice.

I definitely would recommend this hotel and will be returning.

We stayed at this hotel for one night as a last minute Easter break. The welcome at the hotel was first class, the children were given welcome packs, we were telephoned when our room was available even though this was before the official check in time. Our family room had a double bed and bunk beds which was perfect for us. The indoor pool was a great addition to the holiday. The best bit was meal in the restaurant, the food was great, as two adults eating two courses, the children ate free, plus we had a free half bottle of wine each. Highly recommend for a family break. Prices were very reasonable too. Friendly receptionists and staff in the dining room. Good selection of food for breakfast too.

Room Tip: Not much of a view, but the family room we stayed in was great for the four of us, room 218

We booked 3 nights B&B here last minute (18-21 April - Easter weekend) through the Best Western website and were quite happy with the price, very reasonable for a high demand weekend and was actually the cheapest we found in Bournemouth.

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist. We were given a room with a balcony (Room 105), which we were quite happy with and although quite small the main thing is it was very clean. The whole hotel has very creaky floorboards and quite thin walls, and this combined with the bed being quite bouncy and smaller than we are used to, we didn't have the best night's sleep.

Location wise it was perfect for us, lovely and quiet and away from all the noise of the town, 5 mins walk to the beach and 10 mins walk to the town centre where you are spoilt for choice with places to eat and drink.

I could not fault the breakfast, they had everything you could possibly want (cereal, cooked breakfast, pastries, toast and more) and on Easter Sunday we got a chocolate egg with breakfast which we thought was a nice touch.

My fiance went for a swim in the pool while I relaxed at the poolside with a magazine, it was very warm in the club house (and clean!). He said the water was a nice temperature.

We decided to leave a day early (on Easter Sunday) as it was rainy, everything was shut and we were just ready to go home. The receptionist could not have been more helpful, she offered us a room upgrade (a superior room, much bigger with huge bed - we will book this next time!!) although we declined this and were offered a refund for the final night.

We will definitely be returning in the summer, although we will be booking the larger room. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay enjoyable :-)

Room Tip: Receptionist suggested Room 111 when we return - larger room and quiet
